Holy shit! Xbox just bent Playstation over and had their way with them this morning. The USB and DNLA stuff is fantastic news, and mkv support!!
Tomb Raider 2 exclusive to Xbox!?! That's insane.
Quantum Break looks fantastic!
So this holiday they have the NFL partnership, EA program, a better online and controller, better interface, same price, Sunset Overdrive and Halo! Versus literally nothing on PS4. This should be interesting.

Official True Achievements app incoming. Sounds like someone in Washington finally got a clue about how badly they screwed up achievements on the One.

"Literally" is obviously incorrect, but the only PS4 retail exclusive for the rest of 2014 is DriveClub.
Everything else on the PS4's release slate is either coming out on the Xbox One or the PS3 as well. Sunset Overdrive and Halo are only for the Xbox One (no cross-gen support). The same can't be said for Natural Doctrine, Samurai Warriors 4, or even LittleBigPlanet 3, which are coming to the PS3 as well, not that they'd set the charts ablaze if they were PS4 exclusives.
There's plenty of stuff coming for the PS4 before the year's out, but as far as out-and-out exclusives go, Sony's not even trying to compete.

Nope, the PS4 really doesn't have jack coming out this year in terms of retail.
Pretty weak year on the next gen front.

It's not the best quality but, here's what's coming on XO:
I'm sure a similar image will appear in Sony's conference.

I don't have much hope in back-to-back quality Assassin's Creed releases. Hopefully Call of Duty, Destiny, Far Cry 4 and Alien: Isolation turn out well.
We're already in August, how do we not have a GTA V release date yet?

Sorry, they have games...just nothing exclusive or very good
Back to Xbox....anyone else a little surprised that Quantum Break is a 3rd person shooter? I thought it was going to have some sort of crime solving time detective stuff in it? Maybe I'm crazy.

I always expected QB to be 3rd person. Although a "switch" to some sort of investigative mode at certain key points could/would be cool.

I need to check out the Quantum Break info and videos at lunch today. I liked AW, so if it's anything like that, I'm interested.
The more I see of Sunset Overdrive, the less it appeals to me. It's surprising considering how much I deeply love R&C and sorta kinda liked the Resistance games. This one looks like just a colorful, ugly mess of teen-flavored chaos in my book. I haven't completely written the game off yet, but I think I'll rent it rather than pre-ordering it.

The media stuff seems pretty good, finally playing some formats that consoles traditionally prevented.

Can you explain the "True Scoring" thing? I signed up for TA back when I completed Peggle 2... and I'm lazy and didn't bother trying to figure out the difference between the "TS" score and normal "GS."

Always hated the trueachievements site layout etc, never liked going there and trying to find something. I find xboxachievements far superior, but I'll definitely give the app a chance.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017
What's it all about then?
I'm glad you asked.
Well, we were comparing our 360 GamerScores with a couple of buddies when it became clear to us that, as great as Achievements are, the way they are awarded isn't always fair.
Have a look at this appalling example - the 5 points for pressing the Start button in The Simpsons Game are worth exactly the same as the 5 points for completing 10 side missions in Just Cause. It's an outrage.
And, and you may wish to sit down for this one, the 1000 points for achieving a hit counter of 50 in Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth (which takes about 5 minutes) are worth the same as the 1000 points for completing the whole of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, including The Inhuman Achievement (which takes for ever. Literally. Well not literally, or we wouldn't know, but you get the drift).
And that didn't seem right to us. Not right at all.
How does it work?
We believe the harder an achievement is to obtain, the more points should be received.
We've decided that an achievement's difficulty can be accurately approximated by using a formula based on how many people have that achievement compared to how many people own the game. We also understand the phrase 'accurately approximated' is a contradiction in terms but are refusing to remove it on the grounds that it sounds impressive.
From there we multiply the original points given to the achievement by our difficulty score and end up with the TrueAchievement score for that, for want of a better word, achievement.
By adding up the TrueAchievement scores for all the achievements you have won, you get your TrueAchievement Score. Of which you should be terribly proud. Unless it's only 1, in which case you are both a fool and disgrace to your family. We know this as they called the other day and asked to be disassociated from you.

But seriously, I use both sites frequently and each has its strengths and weaknesses. XBA's layout is utterly atrocious, though.

I'm really happy about the usb and dlna stuff (the list of supported formats is impressive), plus Quantum Break looks fun. All in all a very good showing for XBox.

I've never heard of TA until this morning's app announcement. Signed up earlier today as I am curious to check out the app. Noticed my best achievements, most of them are for Xbox One games. Specifically Titanfall.

Sorting by ratio will give you a much clearer picture of the rarest achievements you've won. Also, DLC achievement ratios naturally skew higher since less people own the DLC than the main game.

Any gaming site where searches for the terms "spider man," "spider-man," and "spiderman" return zero results, despite the site itself containing pages for every Spider-man game, is not user friendly. Sorry.
Also, humongous rollover ads that cover the entire screen and autoplay video. It's terrible.

Well, yeah, it seems the Xbox One could dethrone the PS3 as the best multimedia console. Don't sell your PS3 yet, just in case.
