Everyone's situation is different; i'd let my fiancee know before spending $400+ on something, just as I'd expect her to do the same if she bought something at that cost. I don't think that's a sucky way to live at all, but i also don't own a yacht.

$400 for a new game console is a lot of money for me. That's not counting new games at $60 a pop.

It took a some trade-ins to be able to get the console for me and I only bought 2 new games. But, I don't have boat loads of cash laying around to spend.

Every household as Stan said is different, but I can understand why a wife or live-in girlfriend would want to know why you want to spend that kind of money. Especially if they see the joint checking account is missing $400-500+ or if a credit card bill comes in with a $400+ charge at Best Buy or Amazon.

I just swap my consoles out in the cabinet. If my wife says anything I just mention that they upgraded the OS.

Exactly. My wife pays no attention to that kind of stuff at all. I handle the finances so no explanations are needed checkbook wise.

When she does finally figure out that it is a different [insert random electronic piece], I just state, "Dear, I got that 6 months ago. I told you about it. don't you remember?"

She then shrugs her shoulders and moves on.

I was going to try this with my projector.

"Oh, they added 3D in a firmware update, honey."

Not married, but being that it's a smaller console, I was able to hide it behind my TV without my girlfriend ever noticing it. Not that she'd care either way, I'd just rather not advertise it, especially having so much shit hooked up to my TV already.

I talked with my wife about it but she knew it was what I wanted and since we both work she didn't give me any grief about it. We both have our personal things we spend money on that someone on the outside would say are just frivolous expenses. However, buying hunting license and hunting gear, getting expensive rims for your car, getting season tickets for any particular team or having a membership to a country club could also be considered unnecessary expenses and neither of us do any of that.

BTW: Awesome new thread title!

There was plenty of time for a "system update" while the new system updated. Please insert your usb here.

See, score one for the PS4! You're not hiding the One behind your TV (especially with the Kinect)...

"Sure I only make 10 bucks an hour and put the PS4 and 5 launch titles on credit... but at least I don't smoke, buy crack, flip houses or buy exotic race cars!"

:)

On a somewhat more serious note... anyone show the console to the significant other and actually have them think it was worth the money? I barely think it was worth the money, so I'm curious.
