Played about 30 minutes of Outlast. Then I stood up and just said, "I'm too old for this shit". Scary. Way too scary.

I'm waiting until my girlfriend comes over to watch me play it. Then I can laugh at her being scared instead of shitting my own pants.

Yeah, I think I'll get Outlast, but I'm not going to play it by myself. Instead, I'm going to invite a couple of my friends who are huge horror movie buffs over one night and we'll get drunk while taking a few hours to play through it together.

holding hands?

I will wait for a PC sale, $20 right now. Put in my (future) PS4 queue just in case.

It seems it has great reviews from fans of the genre. The complains are basically the same for any game that's too genre specific: repetitive, generic, etc. I guess the complainers are not big fans of the genre. But I guess that explains why in second playthroughs you can finish it in one hour or so.

For PS4 owners, specially if you are a fan, it's a no brainer of course. But I can see some people complaining.

Has anyone that has been using the headphones since the patch had problems with sound occasionally cutting out for a few seconds? I'm playing BF4 and I'm wondering if it's a Playstation thing or a Battlefield thing. I'm using the original official PS headset (CECHYA-0080 I think). I'm thinking it's more a console issue since they just made the headphones functional yesterday and when it happens, the light on the dongle starts flashing like it's not connected.

I can't play Outlast more than a few minutes at a time, but so far it's a cool game.

Viagra would help with that.

I assumed that my PS4 in standby mode would automatically download and install the system update, but I just turned the system on to find a message saying that the new update was available.

They will never auto-install system updates because you might have to consent to a change in the user terms before updating

And, even more annoying, I went to plug my PS4 into my router, and it can't find an IP address. If I manually type in an IP address, it says it can find the IP address, but won't connect to the internet. It still allows me to connect wirelessly.

Edit: Okay, I got it to work. I was mistakenly using the wrong IP address when I typed it in manually. Now my download speeds are double what they were on the wireless network.

The update somehow fixed an issue I was having with group chat (not party chat but text for multiple users). It was bothersome enough that I actually called Sony, so I was pretty happy to see it working.

Times tough for Sony

Sony Now Predicts a $1.1 Billion Loss, Shuts Down PC Business
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/...50745820140206

Even Sony's successes are somewhat muted. Its Playstation 4 gaming console is on pace to beat sales expectations of 5 million units by the end of March. But this latest iteration of the popular Playstation was so expensive to develop that it will take two years to break even on the console, Sony said.

Yup--Looking like the PS4 will be with us for quite a while, but another long console cylce is OK with me.

In either case, Sony isn't getting out of the videogame biz. It's really their only profitable branch these days.

I'm kinda surprised their tv business was losing that much money. I remember in the CRT days they were king of the hill.

Sony Most Successful at ... Selling Insurance
http://www.newser.com/story/168597/s...insurance.html

(NEWSER) – Walkman, Trinitron, PlayStation: In the US, we know Sony as a longtime player in the electronics world. But its electronics arm has lost $8.5 billion over the past decade, the New York Times reports. In fact, the driver of its current success is its insurance business, which doesn't exist in the US or Europe. In Japan, however, the company sells life, auto, and medical insurance, and last year, some 63% of its total operating profit came from its financial operations. Life insurance has brought in $9.07 billion in such profit for the company over the past decade.

It's figures like these that have some analysts calling for drastic action. "Electronics is its Achilles’ heel and, in our view, it is worth zero," says a report issued this week by investment bank Jefferies. “In our view, it needs to exit most electronics markets." US hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb has a different plan: He says the company should spin off its successful music and film business (Sony has been behind entertainment ranging from Spider-Man to Daft Punk) and use that cash to fund its electronics arm. Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai says the firm will consider Loeb's idea, but he made his views clear last week: "Electronics has a future. And it is in Sony’s DNA," he said. "It is my mission to revive it."

Vizio and other cheap TV brands have cut the profitability out of the TV market. Sony isn't the only one feeling the crunch, Panasonic is having the same kind of trouble, causing them to get out of the Plasma TV business.

I'm surprised at that too. I personally think their TV's are great, but most of the people I talk to think they are overpriced. I just bought a 55" Sony for $1400 (for home) and a 55" Vizio for $600 (for work). The Sony was obviously more expensive, but it is a MUCH better TV. Better picture quality. Better options. It's really not even close. But I'd bet 9 out of 10 people would still take the Vizio just because it was almost $1000 less. There are just so many cheaper options out there now.

Insurance is always the more profitable business. Take in a bunch of money for policies and then block or refuse payouts when people need it.
