Well that can't be. A little birdy told me no one would give a shit about Watch Dogs after the delay (a delay that was because the game was garbage next to GTAV, btw).

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
I was a bit suspicious at the time that the combination of being so close to GTA V's release date and being day and date with AC4 were large parts of the decision to delay Watch Dogs. I still think those were factors, but given the impressive but still slightly unpolished look of the final product, I think they needed the time. "Garbage" is a couple of degrees too far, based on what I've seen and heard.
About half of all copies of Watch Dogs sold across 5 platforms were on PS4. Good news for current gen IMO.
Mario Kart also did very well. Not PS4 related, but I'd hate to omit it from the discussion. Vita had a nice month too with the new hardware.
FWIW, here are the NPD estimates from the number crunchers over at GAF. They're usually very close, but they also usually have a press release from MS to use as a variable, and MS didn't do one for May.
-----------------------------
Hardware Monthly Sales
-----------------------------
PS4 ~ 197k
3DS ~ 97k
XB1 ~ 77k
Wii U ~ 61k
360 ~ 57k
PSV ~ 56k
PS3 ~ 36k
Wii ~ 11k
If accurate, PS4 is about equal to XB1, WiiU and 360 (the next three consoles on the list) combined.
Edit: They're still selling Wii?

I believe in the next two months it's only get better. I think E3 was probably the fire starter with all the games showcased with Nex Gen in mind especially the trailers. There was hardly anything 360 & PS3 and if it were it took a back seat to Nex Gen & PC Gaming. If I were sitting on the fence and saw E3 with everything coming down the pike between now and first of next year I would seriously be looking at a Nex Gen (or PC) even more now.
...and I might add the Destiny Alpha probably added even more fire. The game already had some of the most hype around but seeing several VG sites giving it overwhelming praise probably helped more. Yes it's coming on 360 & PS3 but no quesion the game has Nex Gen in mind. It'll be interesting to see in the next few months.

And they're going to sell a ton of these:

Hell, I kind of want one!

To be honest, the Alpha works better in getting people to buy it for the PS4, not a PS4 itself since it was primarily PS4 owners playing the α

On twitter, youtube, twitch, gaming sites, online forums, and probably "watercoolers" everywhere, the Destiny alpha absolutely stole the biggest gaming news weekend of the year.
When September's NPDs come out, I think we'll see a sizeable spike in PS4 sales.

I think this might get more developers to put out alphas; it's a win/win. It gives the devs info for their games so they can improve on them and it's great marketing if the game's not shit.

Though we also need them to label things correctly, this was by no means an Alpha.

They are reportedly using it for data collection and stress testing, so it's more than a "sneak peek" or a "demo". The "Beta" is out in July. What would you call the thing before the Beta?
Whatever you call it, it will move software and probably hardware as well.
On a side note, it smells a little spammy in here.

They'll keep doing that, even once the game is released. Alpha is more or less concept acceptance stage, which the game is far far past at this point. It was a beta demo at the very least.
But it's all just a way to make it seem like they are keeping their word for the pre-orders. All I know is I would enjoy the whole game, so it needs to get pushed up from when it is, September? To July.

I think it does a little more than that.

Yeah, they called it that, but it was far more refined than an alpha and much more of a demo than anything else. BUT, what if the final product really is that much better, where this really was an alpha? Unlikely, but would be cool.

Well if some had doubts of the Alpha or some like me thought it played about as close to the final version we;ll see....not so fast....
Destiny Already Looks Better Than the Alpha, Beta Test Will Have Different Content
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/...erent-content/
The alpha isn’t the only chance to play Destiny before launch on September 9th, with a beta test scheduled to begin on July 17th. As Sussman confirmed, “The beta test later in the year will contain different content – there will be a difference, but what’s key is that every bit of information we’re gathering, and the tweaks and adjustments we’re making, will carry through to the beta test.”
Finally, Sussman said that Destiny “is already looking better than what people are playing in the alpha, which is really cool. It’s like, hey guess what? This is only going to get better.”

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
will we know what next month's free Plus titles are ahead of the start of the month with the new format?
reason I ask is because currently don't have Plus activated but do have a card available to redeem
if I am uninterested in next months PS4 titles I'll likely wait till later months to activate
but if I have interest in what is coming next month I may activate this month to pick up PJ Shooter and Trine 2 which I am only somewhat interested in

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
It's $3-4 per month depending on sales, and PJ Shooter and Trine 2 are two of the best PS4 offerings thus far...only surpassed by ResoGun, Dead Nation (if you hadn't played it) and maybe Outlast IMO.
I'd say "go for it", but yeah, we usually know the new titles a few days before the month starts.

PS4 owners getting a little something extra on GTA V?
E3 2014: GTA5 Has a Special Bonus for PS4 Owners
E3 2014: GTA5 Has a Special Bonus for PS4 Owners
PlayStation marketing manager says, "GTA is a PlayStation franchise."
The PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto V will contain a special perk, according to PlayStation marketing executive John Koller. Speaking with Kotaku at E3 about whether or not PS4 owners can expect something special from GTAV, Koller said, "I don't think we announced anything publicly on that, but there will be."
Koller went on to say that GTAV, released last year on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, did "extremely well" on the PS3. So much so that the index rate for the game--that is, the number of people who purchased the game on the PS3 relative to the Xbox 360 based on install base--"swung well into PlayStation's favor."
The executive added that he expects that trend to continue this year with GTAV for the PS4. "GTA is a PlayStation franchise," Koller said. "It started with us. We really feel strongly that it belongs as a key platform driver for us."
Asked again for more details about the special perk PS4 owners can expect for GTAV, Koller said, "GTAV is going to be, I think, a title we'll talk about more in the weeks and months to come, but GTAV and the GTA franchise is something that will be something very special on PlayStation."
GTAV launches for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this fall. The game includes "across-the-board graphical and technical improvements," which aim to deliver a "stunning new level of detail," Rockstar said when the game was originally announced for the new platforms on Monday. Specifically, GTAV for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC will offer increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and higher resolution.

Destiny will do far better than Titanfall even on the XO due to its broader gameplay (SP, co-op and MP) along with it's vast customization and locations. Not everyone likes MP and though Titanfall looks & plays good it's somewhat one deminsional with MP only. Not only that but Destiny is made to grow and expand. Bungie has been working on this probably since 2009 when a easter egg appeared in Halo:ODST mentioning the name. We're in for the long haul and I have no doubt they're already working on DLC, add-ons or even a off-shoot of the game.
