I ran into a trader right away at Abernathy Farms.

You should be scrapping all that stuff anyways not selling it. Unless it's like some high level stuff. 99% of what you find is better used as scrap.

Man, I wish the gameplay timer had some sort of cut off while standing idle. I've fallen asleep a couple times over the 4 - 5 hours I've played the game and now my in-game time is like 17 hours.

35 hours now...game is fantastic.

I was not a fan of the perk system at first, but I am really enjoying it now. I also wish I had put more into Luck early on. I have spent 4 levels now leveling up luck, because some of these perks are amazing.

I was at least 9 or 10 hours before I found a trader, but it turns out the only stuff I sell is stuff that there is made up of really common stuff that I won't need to build anything. I mostly use the traders to buy radaway, occasional stimpacks, and bullets when I'm running low with the various caps I find around. I am a total hoarder (in games) naturally, and the crafting system in this game just feeds that since so much of the junk has a use.

took me a while to find one too, Diamond City was my first.

Transfer junk to a workshop where you do most of your crafting. I mostly only sell weapons and armor I don't want.

Did you find the "you're special" book? It's in your old house where your kids room used to be. It allows you one extra point in one of your abilities.

Rename your weapons, adding the ammo type before the name so they'll be grouped together (i.e. change "My Handgun" to "10mm My Handgun").

I'm only about 3 hours in now, but I'm loving it. Although my plan was to stick to the main quest for as long as possible, I think I'm going to do some side stuff for awhile, just to level up.

I think the dialog structure is fine. It's more like Life is Strange, where the options hint at what the character is going to say, but instead of having it written out, she speaks it instead. I'm cool with that. It's a little more ambiguous than what some people want, but I don't think it hurts the game.

Canis Firebrand 11-17-15 09:46 AM

Is there an easy way to tell on the map if you've been to a location or not? Other than selecting it to see if you can fast travel of course.

I find myself getting sidetracked often in the game. When trying to walk to a new location, I will see new location icons pop up on the compass and I'll go searching after those to discover them.

Also (spoilers in case someone hasn't found this group/location yet.

Spoiler:
I seem to have done something to piss off the covenant. I discovered their location and passed the test to be allowed I. I did investigate some caravan issue while in there. I went to do a few other quests and when I returned to their location, there was a caravan they were fighting and they attacked me. I ended up killing them all and now I'm using their location as my own compound. I put up a recruitment beacon and have 2 people there already.

I hope I didn't cause me to miss out on some cuter event or quest. But they were out to kill me so I had to defend myself.

Also I have a glitched quest it seems. I can't get it to progress. I met Ness and she wanted me to meet her at a crash sight. I get there and she's present, though the marker isn't on her. It's slightly behind her in another location. I went to it and to her and pressed A to talk to her. She won't talk to me to let me do whatever needs to be done

Last time I'm going to complain about the speech system (for today at least), but I'm guessing you've never played another Fallout game then?

About 20 hours in, no where near the main quest and I've managed to avoid crafting until now.

Until now. I've now got the bug hard and am going back and systematically looting to load up my workshop.

My motivation was tricking out the RA laser rifle. Oh damage/accuracy ... what a seductive siren you are ..

I played 3 and NV extensively. I get the complaint. I really do. It just doesn't bother me at all (so far, I'm still barely anywhere in the game), and I prefer the spoken dialog vs written.

Ugh...so many mistakes playing this so far. A couple of questions the Power Armor has everyone been using it since you found it? I ran out of power and didn't know what to use or if I even had it. I see it listed in some responses here but I am wondering if it will be where I left it (vault 111).

Couldn't get the dog to get me the special weapon...but didn't know I had to kneel down it appears. I need to go back to the vault anyway to check my armor.

I am about level 10 just started playing and cleared out the raiders and killed Jared. Could anyone get on the platform where he was?

I have had the subtitle glitch that has been mentioned and one in the water. I got stuck and couldn't move and died.

The last group/areas I hit was the Crater area. Got attacked by a bunch of religious nutbags using energy weapons that give you 99pts of radiation poisoning. They're also a bit hard to kill. I'm inly at level 25. I did spot nuke mines that surround their area and shooting one ignites a giant nuke-like explosion. It's only in a name since it really doesn't nuke everything. I think it has the same power as the bombs that the suicidal Super Mutants carry.

You can fast travel in the Power Armor and it doesn't cost any power, this includes fast traveling with an empty core. So you can go back get in the suit and fast travel to wherever you want to store it at (probably whatever you constitute as your main settlement).

Re: Fallout 4

Also any Power Armor suits you've found show up on the map, as long as no one else is using it. NPC's can and will climb into them and then you'll "lose" them. However either this doesn't happen in your settlements, or friendly's don't use them, so they are safe there.

Those are Mini-Nuke's. Same thing's the Fat Man gun fires.

I think those are the Children of the Atom, which is a religious cult that worships nuclear bombs (or maybe a specific nuclear bomb/missile, not sure in this game).

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it will only show the last suit you've used on the map. It won't show you all of the ones you've used at one time which is why I make sure and just bring them all back to my settlement as I find them.

Spoiler:

There's a bridge you open with a button. Didn't figure that out until after he was dead though, so I basically had to slowly snipe him and the turrets down which wasn't that quick of a process.

As far as Power Armor, even though it's better than the other stuff I have, I don't like it that much. I don't like the view and how clunky it feels, and I just like wearing goofy crap. For the longest time I was walking around with no pants, didn't notice I could wear my vault suit (and probably some other stuff) under it so I was just living with it (and finding it kind of funny that no one was saying anything). Then I was in Sanctuary and someone said "do you know you're not wearing any pants" and I finally figured it out.

I like to play on the "very easy" mode but some games punish you for doing this (i.e. shitty ending) - does Fallout do that? I ask this because I saw in the menu when selecting very easy that it said something about legendary monsters not being made available.

The higher the difficulty, the better loot drops you'll get. I started on normal and after leveling and getting perks, the game became too easy. Bumped it up to hard and have been getting challenging but not frustrating enemies. The enemies don't turn into bullet sponges. There's just more of them.

Had a pretty serious game breaking glitch happen this morning, thankfully after and 10 tries I was able to get it figured out end game spoilers so don't read if you don't want to be spoiled

Spoiler:
When making the final teleport out of the institute right before you nuke it, the platform you arrive on would not spawn, you would just teleport in, and fall the to ground to your death. Other people seem to have had the same issue, and they think it had to do with wearing power armor when you make your last trip in. What worked for me was turning off the navigation markers in V.A.T.S I still left the set of power armor I stole from the BoS when I slaughtered them, and I didn't lose my good set

I'm thinking about bumping up to hard. I haven't had too much difficulty, except when I wander into areas where I'm obviously underleveled.

Yes.

Something like that happened to me. Decided to run a little against a big enemy, so I took off my body armor, as soon as the big enemy attacked me, the friendly NPC ran away to take my armor. That was actually really helpful. He did most of the work, while I was hiding.

Then I tried to take my body armor back and he wouldn't let me :(

But when the quest ended, he left and left the body armor there.

Playing on PC with controller. I was once a big mouse/KB guy but had consoles last gen... so now the Mouse/KB seems awkward. Tough to lean back in a comfy chair and use a mouse/KB.

Controller on PC playing on my big screen. Pretty much all my PC gaming is done on a couch nowadays. I can recline fine on my couch with a KBM though. Just have a nice/solid mouse pad that I put next to me on the middle section of the couch and my keyboard on my lap, works great.

Mouse and keyboard, even on a slower shooter i'm not a fan of using a controller with any sort of first person game. That said, some of the keyboard controls are annoying.

Finished the main quest line this morning with 68 hrs 27 min logged.
Spoiler:
I kind of figured there would be some twist with aging but never expected Shaun to be 60 years old. I was at first disappointed that there was no end boss or crazy robot animals to fight. But the more I think about it the more I realize it's not a cliched ending like all big RPG's have. And this being a Bethesda game I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the end of the main quest line as my favorite moments come more from the side quests than anything else.

I still have yet to do much with the faction quests and side quest stories.

I'm getting irritated at having to travel back to the settlement to dump crap off all the time. A meager 10 lbs of capacity per point added to strength is bullshit. It is just not worth doing. Many guns weigh more than 10 lbs. I think this is way off when you consider all the crap you have to lug around.
