You're not doing it right.

Click on the friend you want in your friend list with triangle (I believe) and compare trophies.

You are correct, as with most PS3 networking features, they were shoehorned in poorly and are not user friendly. You can compare trophies, but you have to go through a bunch of messaging windows and friends screens to compare them, and it loads slowly. I dunno, I never bothered messing with it much except for at work.

The point is that Achievements are built into the culture of the Xbox much better than Trophies are built into the Playstation. Perhaps they will improve with the PS4, but Sony has not said anything about them where MS has drastically improved their already superior system.

You're definitely missing something.

It takes longer than it should to load, but it's super easy to do: Click on friend, click on trophies, done.

You understand that there's a difference between them not saying anything and you not listening right?

The first minute of this should tell you everything you need to know about what they are doing:

I am getting both day one. Any cross platform games I will probably get on PS4 because the idea of being able to stream them to my Vita sounds great. The PS3 interface and network connectivity absolutely sucks compared to the 360 though. I really hope the PS4 is much improved on those fronts and it seems like it will be from everything I've seen. The game I am most excited for at launch is Forza 5 though.

An old dude sitting in a chair mindlessly navigating some menus? Holy balls that explains everything!!! Thanks!

I guess you can see your trophy progress when the game is highlighted if it is digitally downloaded or the game in your disc drive. Neato.

Was also going to post on how fake that footage is, but I decided against it

I will grant that it is easier to see your friends achievements than it is someone's trophies. However, they are still fundamentally the same thing.

Agreed.

I think it's a good sign of how successful these consoles will be if all we can really find to argue about are trophies and power bricks and shit

Can't wait until November.

Achievements are cool. I'm proud of my 40K gamerscore. I think I only 100% a couple of games.

I replayed Uncharted when it was patched for trophies. I haven't played that many PS3 games, first party only, so I'm a really low level there. I don't think I have platinum in any game.

I'm actually that simple that I really like when I see an achievement message. Playing Dead Space 3 in Origin (PC) right now, and it makes me smile seeing the little notices at the bottom. I have a whopping 95 Origin points right now. I also have Steam achievement/points/badges? I'm a level 5!!!

I even have uPlay achievements, those are from Ubisoft.

So yeah, they make me happy.

It would be cool if Sony could make trophies(and friends notifications) somehow pop up on the touchpad rather than the screen.

So you would want them to have you take your eyes off the screen to look at your controller?

It's not a display, I mean you even called it a touchpad!

That's why I said somehow.

To make notifications less obtrusive? Sure. If it's a trophy I'm specifically trying to get or waiting on a friend to hop on, I'd look down, otherwise I can ignore them.

Actually fuck it, I'm just gonna get both. Forced Kinect was the one absolute deal breaker for me with Microsoft and they have reneged on that (in addition to all the other dumb shit they were going to do) so assuming I can still afford it when the time comes I will get the Xbone at launch also.
I will switch my vote once the next poll/thread goes up.

I made the same mistake. I thought the touchpad was a touchscreen for months after the initial announcement.

No, just a touchpad like the back of the Vita.

I thought it was more of a Trackpad like on a laptop, the back of the Vita I thought were just single touch sensors.

Sounds like Sony is doing a pretty piss poor job of messaging...

I cancelled my PS4 preorder. I need $$ to buy a pair of surround speakers instead of another system. Maybe next year, I will get either PS4 or XBone after a price drop.

Messaging? What in the world are you on about?

They showed it in public over 6 months ago and have shown it consistently ever since including countless hands-ons and at least one livestream. Please find any image or video of the DS4 that makes the touchpad look like anything but a touchpad.

The Vita is a full trackpad on the back. It supports multi-touch gestures.
