you are making a false argument unless you thinks Sony should spend all their marketing money now on a game that the casual consumer can wait 2 weeks to possibly (not likely) find a $399 console they can play it on and not much else |
Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
Almost everyone that has a ps4 knows this game is coming out, they don't really need to promote it, people are gonna buy it because there isn't anything else out to buy at the moment

Sony can pour all the money they have into marketing inFAMOUS .... at the end of the day there are only just over 6 mil consoles sold (worldwide) and little to no available stock for consumers to purchase gamers/early adopters who own the PS4 already like myself are well aware of the inFAMOUS franchise and what SS has to offer (and likely purchased the PS4 early mainly in anticipation of this title) ... while it would be great to see inFAMOUS any/everywhere I don't need to be marketed to, I am already sold what they do need to do is market to the general consumer who doesn't know what inFAMOUS is but IF YOU CAN'T BUY THE SYSTEM YOU NEED TO PLAY IT ON .... WTF is the point .... the return on sales of the software doesn't warrant the marketing dollars needed to hit a mass audience |
Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
^^ Because you can buy hype... which is often more important than the games / systems themselves. Once you get a consumer focused on having to have the PS4 then they can start to focus on all the games and useless cameras / Move controllers they can buy next. Sony doesn't give a flying fuuuudge about those of us that bought the system - we're all in. We're buying SS because it's our only real choice right now... but for those that are on the fence or haven't yet bought in to the next gen, hyping a game like SS seems like a logical move

what is your game plan? .... spend millions now on television spots hyping up what a great game you claim inFAMOUS SS to be? you are preaching to the converted (those who own the console) or are you just looking to work everyone up into a frenzy when they can't buy the system to run the software on Sony would do a better job addressing why the can't or chose not to keep up with demand on the hardware side if inFAMOUS is a system seller there will be plenty of time to spread the gospel ...... but having systems to sell is usually a good starting point MS is blowing their load with Titanfall but they are doing it because they have boxes they can't move and are in most cases giving the software away for free (something you don't want to be doing with what you consider one of your top [exclusive] IPs) |

I've let this discussion go on a while without chiming in, but I did want to make sure you guys saw this spectacular live action TV ad Sony made for inFamous Second Son. It's not like they're letting the game go unnoticed.

I saw that ad the other day and thought it was brilliant. I hope the game manages to capture the feelings of that spot.

I haven't seen it on tv yet, but yes effective .... though "only on Playstation" should be called out much more |

The tag line for this should be "Bummed you can't play Titanfall? This game is okay I guess."

(Winner of "the dumbest gif I've seen in months") I have the option to play Titanfall but will wait until the price drops a bit (around $30 or less), I'm curious to see how Second Son turns out since it was obviously designed with this current gen in mind. |

Agree with your points on Sony, but disagree with the claim that the bundling is a bad move for Microsoft. It's the smart thing for them to do at this point, though I honestly don't know if the general buzz on Titanfall will be enough to really push sales and they really shouldn't have had the 360 version. It'll be interesting to see what the numbers are for this month. Regardless, I'm kind of surprised that all of the consoles don't launch with a decent exclusive bundled in. If your competitors aren't doing it, it's a major selling point. If they are, you feel like you've got to do it to achieve parity.
I'd love to get a "free" game with my system but can understand if Sony is selling out of their hardware without doing so what incentive is there for them to give it away .... software is where most of the money is made they [Sony] are in a much better position now since they can bundle it [inFAMOUS] later with the system if they choose to for free instead of doing a price drop and it will project greater value |

Kinda ironic talking about including free games like the Titanfall bundle.Doesn't PSN do that every month? Only 6m own a PS4. So what? Not all of them are "sold". You can never guarantee a sale just because your customer owns a system. That's arrogance talking. |

I'm sure their numbers bear out that they are comfortable with what they project sales to be keep in mind this is a company that had around 80 million units of hardware available when TLOU launched and their mainstream advertising of that was next to nothing .... it only sold 3.4 million units but still was the fastest selling PS3 game after 3 weeks again, I'd love to see inFAMOUS plastered everywhere I just don't expect it given there are only 6 million consoles in the hands of consumers and short supply of new stock

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
I think I:SS looks fun as hell. Can't wait to give it a spin.
As for Titanfall, it'll be interesting to see if it moves systems. The way MS is giving it away (bundle, ebay deals, TRU deals, etc.) it feels like they have no faith in it. Either that or they're rethinking the $60 price of entry for a MP only game. |

I would think if anything the giving it away has more to do with moving people to the Xbone instead of them just buying it on the 360 |

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
not to delve too far off topic with titanfall, people are also missing the point of these bundles. every game attached to a bundle counts as a "sale" for the purposes of tracking. so, when titanfall hits a million or two million in sales, Microsoft can easily use that as a marketing tool. "best selling next-gen game" or whatever they want to use. won't be tough since COD: Ghosts is the best selling title on both next-gen consoles, and both have barely sold over a million copies. basically how Wii Sports is somehow the best selling game of all time, basically, and it wasn't ever actually "sold" as a game, but was just a pack-in w/ the Wii system.

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
I can assure you Sony isn't laying in the weeds saving $$ on advertising because they can't get enough systems on the shelves. Every company predicts sales and adjust production accordingly; they also budget for advertising - by each quarter. The PS4 is a case of selling better than expected -- but the lack of marketing was decided long ago -- not because the consumer can't find a PS4.

The only thing the two games have in common is that they release in the same month, and I dare say some people still like single player experiences more than twitchy FPSs. If anything, Infamous should be compared to Dead Rising and Titanfall to Killzone. |

you still haven't answered my question about what your gameplan would be if you were in charge |
