I watched a playthrough of this part and it took 28 minutes. I'm not looking forward to this and have been delaying playing it as I am at his door. I don't play games to reach a high level of frustration and I think that this will be one of those cases.

I so hated this first go through

Stay behind the pillars and kill his wingmen first (when there) with R2
then 3 R1 shots directly to him each time
keep dashing from pillar to pillar and to refill your powers.

I never died in the lava itself, just keep dashing through it to higher ground

Hmm. I had no issues with this part whatsoever. My general strategy was to attack from behind pillars and leave BEFORE they started to drop so I could replenish powers.

Anyhow, I wrapped up my 100% Good playthrough. I don't think I'll be back for an evil run though. Solid title nonetheless.

The only frustrating part of the game, for my money. It helps to use Smoke since its heaviest attack doesn't require a charge and spreads the damage out more. Be sure to knock out the angels first, if you haven't already. A heavy shot to his head will stop the lightning spray attack. The lava isn't an insta-death, so if you fall into it, just keep dashing towards the next platform. Agree that it's best to keep moving.

Played it for something like 10 hours straight yesterday. 100% good on normal difficulty. Really enjoyed it, but not sure I'll replay as evil. Apparently I use lots of incomplete sentences when I'm on my iPad.

One thing you might wanna try is to use Neon and the heavy charge shot on him and the supporting Angels. Then if you get knocked off you can just dash across the lava. Gl.

Thanks for the help. I finally passed that bastard. I kept dropping him down to a tiny bit of health then died in the lava or a barrage of missiles. Moving around from platform to platform eventually got me over the hump. Just now discovering power #3. Looks cool, but probably less useful than the others, or so it seems here just after getting it.

Yeah, I didn't find power 3 as useful as the previous 2.

The easiest way to defeat He Who Dwells is to hang off the side of the smoke platforms. He can't hit you while you're hanging off the side, and you can hit him with impunity. When you run out of energy, you jump up, drain more, and hop back down. The worst he can do is use his heavy attack to knock you off the platform, but you can hang further down the side and climb back up.

That's what I tried but I kept getting knocked into the Lava with his heavy attack

Haven't completed the "Good" side yet...about 22% left...but started "Evil" last night. What a difference in how you do almost everything. Just more say freedom and being less worried killing civilians. Haven't got to the Space Needle but some of the Evil Smoke stuff is pretty cool. The quick dash take-down is fun. It's also neat to see the difference on how the civilians treat you. Being Good it's like being a Hollywood Star; being Evil it's like being someone with the plague.

I'm only through about 35% of my Good run. The game is a fucking blast. I've been clearing out each district to 0% as I go, so I'm still just on smoke powers. Nothing like doing an orbital drop to clear out a drug ring.

Got a good laugh out of a car rolling by thumping "My Hooptie." Loved that song way back when. Which brings me to my only real complaints thus far are the music (or lack thereof) and the score is too subdued. Another is the orbital drop. There should really be a few if not a handful of variations on the animation. Lastly, the game needs 'orbs' or something to keep you bounding from rooftop to rooftop. The side missions are a perfect mix, but I think the game is really lacking a 'collectable' to keep you exploring the world.

The story is paper thin but that doesn't bother me (so was Crackdown and that was a blast). Loving the game so far though.

You'll find easier ways to get from rooftop to rooftop with your next two powers, especially the third one. Neon just makes it so you don't even have to worry about it.

As for the story, what disappointed me the most was that the difference between the good and evil paths is two missions and three different cut scenes. I'd really like to see them finally go for broke with it and make the evil story truly evil.

Spoiler:
I mean in this game, even when you're evil, the main difference is that you're taking down protesters while ignoring drug dealers. Hell, one of the evil items is to wipe out the russian mob. Is that really evil? Delsin does at least get laid in the evil playthrough. Somehow that's bad I guess.

Yeah, don't linger too long on your first power, because they other powers are more fun and help you get around the city better, not to mention that their big power moves are better than the orbital drop.

Really? The third power ended up being my goto one for combat and traversing the city.

You guys that are skipping the evil playthrough are missing out.

And the third power is the best power...at least on evil.

That depends on if you have to pay for it and if there are STDs involved.

Hero / Normal is 100%, now to complete Evil / Expert (18%)

Another method, ignore the platforms except for recharging powers and just keep moving in and out of one of the video updrafts. Extremely easy to beat him this way, as it's about impossible for him to hurt you.

This game kind of pains me. It's beautifully realized with great control and visual design, but the game design itself seems woefully rushed.

Beat it last night with Good/Expert. I should be able to breeze through the story quick on Evil/Easy, and then go back to do clean-up for the platinum on my Good story line.

How much do I have to do get the Evil trophies? Just the main stories? Do I have to take out all the DUP mobile units too?

Overall, I liked the game. Of all 3, I think I preferred the mission style of Infamous the best. It seemed like there was the most variety of mission types in that one. I didn't like all the mini-bosses in 2. And the clear-the-district parts of SS, got a bit repetitive. But the variety of powers and great game-play in SS made me overlook the repitition.

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)

Pretty far in the game now and while I find it to be beautiful I am now understanding the reviews that said this game did nothing to really move the series along. The missions are fun and all but the process of clearing districts got old rather fast. Thankfully shards are visible on the map and not something they make you really look for.

I do enjoy the cutscenes and find the voice acting rather entertaining. I also enjoy that the powers very a good bit. In the middle of a battle or two I've raced to find an alternate power source to aid me in battle. I enjoy the powers and location enough that I am curious about the evil playthrough.

This apparently sold like 700,000 copies in its first week.

Not bad.

main story is all but you may need to take out the DUP units if you want more shards to upgrade powers

That is pretty good and is perhaps affirmation that pretty graphics still sell games.

Of course, I also think the powers and gameplay are a lot of fun, but like you, I feel like the content of the game is a little light, which makes the game feel rushed. But I'm also torn because I hate when open world games have so much stuff that it's overwhelming or that you get distracted from the main story for extended periods.

I think of Infamous as a guided adventure that happens to be in an open world as opposed to an open world game that happens to have a story, and for that, 10-12 hours is a pretty good fit. So I don't really want "more" to do. Rather, I want more variety in what I'm doing, and prior games did a better job of scripting events within their open worlds.

I feel like the metascore of 80 is about right, but I can't really understand some of the 10s or 6s.

My first play thru...Good...I pretty much got each section down to "0%" before moving on. With Evil...doing Expert...I plan to leave some parts intact so I can play with the third power more. I'll take one sector down on each side all the way so I can fast travel.
