Well I guess the dvdtalk poll was pretty accurate if Amazon's poll results look like that...

The numbers here are even more remarkable to me because I know this community and know how overwhelmingly Xbox friendly it is.

I think both polls reflect how impactful Microsoft's strategy going into E3 was to the loyalty of their customers. If anything, I think the numbers reflect the initial reaction after E3, and might not be fully reflective of where we'll be in 6 months. I actually expect Microsoft to find a way to be more competitive between now and the fall, whether that means backing off on a few of the planned restrictions on their customers or maybe making a cheaper SKU that bypasses all of the Kinect TV-overlay silliness that nobody really wants.

As I've said before, I think Microsoft forced Sony to do a lot of stuff better for consumers and for developers/publishers, and I hope it works the other way as well.

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

Some little things that Microsoft has done with my 360 puts me on edge a bit for the next generation. Any promises or changes in policy leading up to launch could easily be changed again down the road. By building a system that will never work offline, they have built a system that they control 100% in every way. The ps4 is designed to be played offline forever. While publishers could release mp only games to get around that, I doubt every game down the road has mp...on top of that, if they go to MP only down the road, you will still have a library of games you can play with your ps4. With the xbox one, they have control over every game..forever...

For the Xbox one...If they manage to promise things like...

Sharing games is a lot easier...

Used games are now ok....

Buy a game and when you deactivate it from your account get 15 bucks in Microsoft credit...

These are ideas that they could come up with to get people to buy their system, and then change them down the road. Maybe they won't, but they absolutely have the power to.

Back to my first point about the 360. This is something that most will laugh at, but for my friends and me it was really a big deal. Netflix party view. There are 4 of us who went to school together, who live all over the country now, and play games together. One of these guys I have actually not even seen for over 20 years, but we remain great friends, and spend a lot of time together because of our 360's. When the 360 added party view on netflix, we at first laughed thinking it would be silly to watch a movie together. Then one night, while drunk, we all started a comedy and had a blast. They took this away about a year later, and said "we will be bringing it back" They never did. It is possible to watch netflix together, but getting 4 guys to start the movie at the same time and then pause for bathroom breaks is a huge headache, especially since we like to watch movies when we get drunk enough that gaming is out of the question.

Voting nothing. I'm sure I'll get one of them eventually, but right now my motivation level is pretty low. This is not just because of all the Xbox missteps either. The trend throughout this generation has been moving in a way that I don't like. I like my gaming fairly simple and straight forward. The way you boot up games now and have menus and menus to go through before playing is not for me (ea sports games for example) and it seems like that's creeping into all genres of games. I guess it's kind of hard to explain but the overall "feel" of a lot of games seems just seems messy and a bit of a chore.

I'm curious as to how many of you have a pre-order in for the One without having voting for it in any of the options. Because I know the tone in the One thread was basically "Yeah I'll keep my pre-order in for now, but fuck you Microsoft."

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

I currently have both on pre-order, but will be cancelling the Xbox One unless they change my mind in the next few months.

I'm getting both systems regardless of the current open issues. Something tells me it won't be nearly as bad as we think and much like the PS3, most people will come around and get an XO.

Naw it won't be nearly as bad as its being made out to be, it rarely is at least.

I've been debating this. I have both preorders in just as placeholders. But do I really need both at launch, if they're largely identical and the amount of free time I have for gaming is less than ever? I don't think so. What exclusives (or exclusive features) are convincing you that you need both?

This is exactly why I own the PS3 and not the Xbox. At the time, I felt the blu-ray player, free online play and early backwards compatibility were enough of a value add to choose it over the 360. Later, I got a 360 and had it for about a week, but after some initial dissappointment with Gears (the game I most felt like I was missing out on) I sold it for a few bucks more than I paid for it.

Obviously, I could afford both PS3 and 360, but I couldn't rationalize owning both when they were so similar. All indications are that the PS4 and X1 will be even more similar.

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

I greatly preferred the 360 this generation. The online component, OS (patches and updates were quick and simple), minimal installation requirements, vastly superior controller, better indie games (sorry to say, I greatly preferred Geometry Wars to any of the PS3 shooters, Splosion Man to Journey and Super Meat Boy to most everything else. Echochrome though was fantastic.) the exclusives had more staying power (due to MP), etc; the system always seemed new to me (seriously, look at what it looked like at launch and what it looks like now.) even through silly stuff like 1 vs 100 (which was awesome) and group movie viewing (which was silly but kind of amusing)

But I owned both. I just found the Xbox 360 to be the better of the two. I think this will carry over to the Xbox One, and I think in many ways it'll again be the better overall experience. However, the added cost w/ the unnecessary Kinect 2, the lesser clock speeds on identical specs (minus some GPU hardware), lesser slower memory, etc; have me a little weary in terms of mass adoption. I have never been impressed with Sony's crossbar but despite being visually unappealing found the function of the PS Vita to be quite impressive for them.

Basically, Sony coming out for $100 cheaper with no useless peripheral made my choice for me. I still want an Xbox One and am just having some fun at its expense against its blind defenders (seriously, people are overlooking massive things for the sake of saying it's just as good when it isn't.), but in the end I'll likely end up with both.

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

Provided you don't find exclusives from Sony studios compelling, the 360 was clearly a superior machine for playing games. The only real advantages for PS3 were free online play, arguably better multimedia capabilities and the reliability issues with early 360s (which eventually hit the early PS3s as well).

But yeah, if you just wanted a machine to play games with an excellent interface for online play, the 360 was the obvious choice.

Right now, I'm finding the PS4 the obvious choice for very similiar reasons.

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

The Xbox had the benefit of an OS company designing it, even if it was just an illusion there was a certain sense of freedom to it (Weird sounding I know). PS4 should have hired on some new OS designers as the PS4 interface looks somewhat lackluster right now, but better than the crossbar.

There's undoubtably something cool about being able to pause a game and take a video call without leaving the game. But is it enough to sell me on a game console? Probably not.

Technically the PS3 had the superior exclusives overall, but I won't lie, playing co-op through Gears of War was some of the most fun I had this gen.

The PS4 has some great exclusives like The Show and Uncharted that I never pass up. Similarly I'm looking forward to the MS titles... also, I simply prefer the Xbox controller and Live interface. It's not a cost decision for me, so I prefer to have both and not miss out on each systems exclusives. Like you, I have less and less time to game these days so I only want to play titles that are worth the time that I do have.

Current odds for me are...

1 to 4...PS4 at launch

1 to 10...Xbox One at launch

1 to 2...Xbox One around 8-12 months after launch

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

Last gen I got the 360 because most of my friends were on the Xbox/Halo bandwagon, and the PS3 for the Blu-ray capabilities and the backward compatibility. I also had just gotten an HDTV and wanted stuff to play on it.

I'm usually really weak when it comes to being tempted by system launches, but man looking back, most of the launch titles were lackluster at best, each system had major hardware issues with the launch systems, and I probably could have saved a bunch of money going with one at least for a while. But I'll probably keep both. Heck, I still play my Wii U...

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

I mainly game on 360 more because of the performance/graphics advantage over the PS3 and because I prefer the controller a hell of a lot more than the Dualshock3. Now that the Dualshock4 is improved, I'm hoping it comes a little closer to the same comfort level. And it sounds like MS just tweeked the One controller slightly to improve on the best controller ever made, the 360 controller.

With the new systems, if the PS4 looks better and plays just as good, if not better, I'll definitely lean more towards mostly gaming on that one, and leave the One for more console exclusive stuff. I have no doubt that MS won't make some changes along the way and provide a great system overall, but the way they have structured the physical ownership of everything just scares me a little bit. I want to have that confidence knowing that if I want to play something on my One well into the future after they have moved on to the next big thing, that it's still going to play right. And right now, that is no guarantee.

Re: Post E3: What're ya buyin?

Time to reset the polls:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

Microsoft can keep their soup nazi attitude and their Kinect bullshit, and I'll keep my $100.

Same here. I might reconsider and get XB1 a few years down the road, after a few price drop at the minimum. It would be like PS3/360 switching places next gen, assuming I would bother with XB1.

Exactly. I doubt anything has changed at camp MS in regards to DRM and ownership, they have simply put their plans on pause.

Drop forced Kinect and $100 and I'll consider taking you back.
