re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I feel like I'm pretty set in the VR games department for a good while now. Just got Red Matter 2, which looks just as good as advertised.
That said, this upcoming PSVR2 exclusive looks REALLY cool. Mixture of gunplay and psy-ops, kind of like Control. And it's 10% off its $34.99 MSRP with PS Plus if you pre-order. I am very tempted. |

Meta Quest adopts a Playstation Plus type subscription model.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Well I noticed that a few PSVR2 titles went on sale this week. I had certainly heard about Pistol Whip before and since it was 20% off now (like $23, I think), I picked it up.
OMG that game is amazing. So much fun and tons of content. Highly recommended. I also picked up Moss Books I & II, for $26. Haven’t tried them yet. |

The article about an on-hands demo also suggests they've redone the puzzles to be more environmental like an escape room: https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming...n-impressions/ I got to see that in action during a 30-minute demo of The 7th Guest VR on the Meta Quest 2. It’s a radical reinvention of the original — so much that it’s hard to call it a remake — and it’s already fascinating me as a historical project. An old-school adventure game becomes an escape room puzzler in VR, a surprising change that connects the dots between the evolution of video game genres.... That switch to VR does call for some radical reimagining, though. The original game’s puzzles are very much built with a flat screen in mind; it wouldn’t be all that exciting to flip cards or complete line puzzles in virtual reality. Instead, Vertigo Games has turned the mansion into a series of tactile escape rooms that are far more involved than anything in the original. https://gamerant.com/7th-guest-vr-interview/ I played the original when it came out in 1993. It came on two, count them, two CD-ROMs! (although really only the very end was on the second disc, the game just barely too big to fit on one disc, and the bulk of disc 2 was full of audio CD tracks featuring the soundtrack). It was very impressive for the time, and it seems like this remake may recapture some of that feeling. |

What I remember the most about it was loving the atmosphere, if they do a good job building on that aspect I'll be happy.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Just got some lens inserts for my Quest 2 so that I don't have to wear eyeglasses anymore while using it. The lenses work great and it's much more comfortable to use the headset without glasses. I should have done this when I first got it.

That's about what I just paid and, so far, I think it's totally worth it.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
That seems very reasonable, where did you order them? I should do this, too.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I used HONS VR. I read a few threads on reddit about VR lens inserts and they were one of the companies that seemed to get mostly favorable comments. You'll need your prescription handy so you can enter the numbers when you order. Mine shipped from China and got here in one week with standard shipping. Installation was fairly easy.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
The Meta Quest 3 will have game streaming through Game Pass.
Not VR, but it could be cool to play games on a giant virtual screen. Probably will get hot after an hour or so. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Anyone pre-ordering the Quest 3? I have the Quest 1 but not the Quest 2. I mistakenly thought another model would come out sooner than it did (Quest 1 came out Spring 2019 and Quest 2 was Fall 2020). So this will be a huge leap for me. Not sure about what size to go for though. Having just 128 GB and 512 GB options seems like a pretty big spread (and the $150 price difference isn't trivial). I've never been one to fill up lots of hard drive space on my devices. Though it's hard to know how size intensive Quest 3 apps will get. The one extra bonus the 512 GB model will have is 6 months subscription to their service where you get 2 free games a month.
I really hope Meta isn't inspired by Playstation and make this subscription mandatory for online gaming. Have there been any more details about how it will work? |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I had the original and thought it was great and then sold it and got the 2, which I played maybe three times. There were some games I purchased (like the Star Wars ones) I never even got around to play. I sold my 2 earlier this year. So far no plans for the 3, especially with the higher price. But who knows, maybe down the line. I just don't have time.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I know I will cave and get one even though I know it will collect dust like my 1 and 2 do.
|
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I use my 2 enough that I will probably eventually get a 3 if there is an improvement in the optics--supposedly a larger 'sweet spot' than the 2. I'm in no rush, though.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
The AR feature has be really intrigued to get a 3... but I don't use my 2 enough to justify it right now.
VR just doesn't seem to be taking off like the industry thought and many of us hoped. I can't quite place my finger on the real issues with it because it's cool as hell. I know I do get motion sickness from some games but other than that, I love playing when I do play. |

Anyone playing Dungeons of Eternity. I have only played the tutorial but the game is cool as hell. Should be crazy fun multiplayer.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Mine is supposed to arrive Thursday, though Amazon doesn't even show it having shipped yet.
Picked up the elite battery strap from Wal*Mart today. Did you use a referral before on your previous quest? Is that allowed here or frowned upon? I think each person gets $30 store credit if I remember right if you use one. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I was in Walmart and saw multiple Quest 3s of the two sizes, so this absolutely isn't one of those products with supply demand issues.
I set things and played around for a little. I won't really have much gaming time for the next 5-6 weeks though. I'm going from Quest 1 to Quest 3 so there may be "new" features that aren't really new. The way it determines the room boundaries is cool. Instead of drawing lines the headset scans the room and maps things out (including furniture). And the headset is noticeably lighter. Does anyone know how the newer version handles previously purchased games (which were played on the older model)? Do you have to rebuy if you want the Quest 3 (of Quest 2) versions? Do some games upgrade for free? |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
All Quest 2 games are fully compatible with Quest 3.
I don't think people had to rebuy Quest 1 games to play on the Quest 2, but I couldn't swear to that. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Correct, the Quests are all backwards compatible so far. Very few are crossplatform though (PC + Quest).
|
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Has anyone seen anything that compares the Q3 to PSVR2? Everything I've seen about the Q3 talks about how it's the best to go with due to the cost to get into it. But if I already have a PS5 and don't care about the cost or being wired, which of the two offers the better experience?
|
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Whichever has the software you want. The PSVR2 is obviously going to be the more powerful because the PS5 is stronger than any Snapdragon processor out there and it has eye tracking which the Quest 3 does not.
I picked up a Quest 3 earlier -- the passthrough/AR stuff is cool but definitely immature at this point, the tracking seems a lot better on the Quest 3 than the Quest 2 but overall the changes seem to be kind of minimal  |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
For those with the Quest 3 ... is there a third party alternative head strap that you recommend? The "official" Elite strap from Meta seems to be generally considered a rip-off. I'm seeing a bunch of 3rd party accessories, some of them with extra batteries for the headset, but it's a bit overwhelming about which one to get.
I just know I can't handle the head strap that came with it, since it makes my face hurt after about 20 minutes. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I use the Meta one and don't feel that it is a rip off at all. But as far as 3rd party ones, people seem to be in love with the BoboVR stuff.
