re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
My wife asked me today if we should get the Oculus Q2 or PSVR for our boys (9 and 11) for Xmas. Hot damn - don't have to ask me twice! That's my green light to jump into VR for the "kids". We have a PS4 Pro and do not have a PC (only Chromebooks and Macs). I'm leaning towards the Q2 because 1) wireless, 2) better gfx/pixels per eye, and 3) it seems to track better in limited play space (which we have). However, please convince me otherwise. Anyone regret getting the Q2 over the PSVR or glad that they did? Any rumblings that Sony will upgrade the VR for the PS5?
Thank you |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I actually gave my PSVR away when I got my Rift (now I have a Quest 2). I think the PSVR has some of the best VR titles and the gamepad implementation is second to none but it is really dated (poor motion controls, screen resolution, space requirements and clunky headset) by today's standards
So my vote is Quest 2, but it does have some of its own limitations. |

Asgards Wrath is a resource beast at 90 hz haha

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Bought a Quest 2 over the weekend, primarily so the kids and their friends could play VR without tying up my PC. So far it’s been just great.
My biggest complaint is no Google Earth on Quest! If that app were available, I’d sell my Rift in a heartbeat. That’s the only VR app I personally go back to on any regular basis. |

Or if you're handy you can buy the Virtual Desktop app, sideload its official mod using Sidequest, and stream Google Earth wireless (this is generally how I play Alyx, and it's surprisingly lag free). |

Looks like Oculus is running daily deals again. Tetris Effect is 20% off today.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
The Oculus store is again showing the 30% off code OCULUS30, but YMMV. It was listed on any game page under the price.
edit: in system, promo shows through March 3. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Biggest problem for me with VR is the price of the games. Way too much for what most are. I rarely play use my Occulus these days.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I strongly suspect my Oculus Quest is scratching up my eyeglasses :(
I've had the Quest since the first summer it came out (2019). I use the eyeglasses spacer that came with it, and didn't notice any problems (either with my glasses or the lens in the Quest). I was overdue for a new prescription and got new glasses this January. And I've been plagued with little scratches building up over time. The glasses store replaced the lenses once, but they won't do it a second time. I've always been really good with glasses and have never had these kinds of problems in my decades of wearing glasses. And at this point, the only thing I can think of is that it's the Oculus. My new frames are a little bigger than my old ones and they're not as tight on my head. The Oculus lens look fine. But I can't think of any other troubleshooting explanation than the lens of my glasses bumping the lens in the Quest and causing these little cracks. I've been using the Quest at least once a week. Anyone else had issues like this? I know contacts wouldn't cause problems, but starting to wear contacts just isn't an option I will do. Googling seems to show that others have had similar issues. Outside of contacts, it sounds like the other solutions are: 1) have prescription lens made for the Oculus (which sounds like it'll cost a couple hundred dollar), or 2) put in a third party "spacer" around the lens in the Quest. Has anyone tried anything like that? The spacers are pretty cheap (<$20) and a few places sell them. Sucks that I'll probably have to buy new lenses for my glasses, because having these blurry areas is really annoying. And the vision part of my health care only covers one pair/calendar year, so I either have to wait until next January or bite the bullet and pay full price. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
V30 is out for the Quest headsets, it introduced Air Link for the original Quest (its already available on the Quest 2) which is the wireless PC gaming feature folks have been sideloading for a while via Virtual Desktop. Works really well for titles like Half-Life: Alyx if you have a strong PC and solid wifi.
They also made the 2d app experience more multitaskable. |

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas announced for Oculus Quest 2:

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I picked up Resident Evil 4 (thanks, 30% off code), but I haven't gotten a chance to play yet. That one was my favorite Wii game, and I think VR will trump the motion controls. Hopefully the first "boss" with the chainsaw won't take me a week to get past again. :)
GTA: San Andreas will be interesting, too. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Enjoy, but do yourself a favor and stay out of the Oculus Facebook groups for a while. There are hundreds of new posts about RE4 that are just out of the blue and all the comments are about how people can't believe they didn't just respond to somebody else, instead. Nobody checks what else is already there. It's like if every time someone had something to say about a topic here, they just started a new thread instead of responding to the existing thread, it's nuts.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Lol, I will stay away from everything Facebook. I only have an account because of the Quest 2. I'll be happy when that's no longer required.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Planning on picking this up for Christmas for my son. The Quest 2. He has a an OK gaming computer (Ryzen 5, GTX1650 Super card). Is there any reason to pick up the PC cable? Not sure he would even run it from his PC, but seems like that will definitely have more horsepower to run a game. I am somewhat if a n00b when it comes to this VR stuff.

You can play games from your PC on your Quest 2 wirelessly. If that proves problematic (it works great imo but depends on your wifi setup), then pursue the cable. But you should be able to tell if the PC can handle the games or not wirelessly.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Yeah, reading the comment it definitely could be interpreted differently. There are workarounds but it limits the Oculus.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Thanks, yeah I'll be waiting to see if there's any official announcement before buying anything.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
The PC Link stuff is pretty awesome and I haven't used it for a while, so I haven't tried wireless. Stomping around in the Fallout world was definitely super fun, though. I still need to try out Skyrim.

Probably a pipe dream, but still pretty cool:

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Why can't they make a VR that works on both PC and PS?

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I picked up a unit and hooked it up right after Christmas. Used the referral program that gives both parties $60 store credit right now (till 12/31 I think). There is a "special multiplayer" bundle for $29.98 that contains Demeo, Walkabout Mini Golf, and Blaston. I'm really interested in Demeo does anyone know how it does single player? I've read Walkabout can be okay single player, Blaston not so much. I did go ahead and grab the Fanatical Oculus VR bundle too.
What all do I need for wireless PC play? I see that the airlink is built-in already, what does the app on the store called Virtual Desktop do different? I'm thinking about picking up Half-Life Alyx while it's on sale, but I know my computer graphics card will have to be updated, hopefully my processor/wifi are okay already. |

It works similarly. |
re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I got a Quest 2 for xmas. I purchased virtual desktop and my Steam VR titles (which I had installed with my pre-Rift Oculus) showed up on the list of games so that was cool. I got some 3d printed adapters so i could put in prescription lenses and that worked out well; much better than trying to wear it with glasses on. I bought Alyx on the steam winter sale so I'll have to see how it works.

Picked up a Quest 2 and I absolutely cannot login to sync it with my existing account from my Quest 1. According to Is It Down Right Now, it looks like it's not just me. Makes sense but it's frustrating.

Bought Iron Man VR, on sale, for the Quest 2 yesterday. It's really cool.

I got rid of my Quest 2. I was hardly using it.

Just a reminder that any Oculus Quest users must transition by today to a Meta account or their system will apparently stop working.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
Upgraded to a Quest 2 so I could play Golf+ and it was worth every penny for that alone. If you like golf, this game is incredible, especially with a golf controller attachment.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)
I'm enjoying the Quest 2 and I see improvement over the Quest 1, but it fits much tighter on my face, is less confortable for me, and that's frustrating.
