Get the head strap adapter. Totally worth it and makes adjusting the headset a snap. You don’t need the one with a battery, just the regular one.

There are lots of different ones, but I got this one and recommend it especially since it is one that is supported in game (you have to make sure to switch your controller type to it).

It looks like the original Quest’s days are numbered with no more software support after 2024. Cynical me feels it is only matter of time before Meta finds a reason to brick the system.

They're having half off star wars pinball because of star wars day and I had a 10 off coupon so I got it for 2.50.

I love it. Only way to play. Although when I do 3d mode for the life of me I can't figure out how to get me between the flippers, I'm slightly to the side.

Decker 05-01-23 09:54 PM

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I bought it too. I had a $5 coupon, no idea why. I look forward to checking it out, having only purchased these tables on the PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch previously.

They gave me 7 Canadian I don't know why maybe because I had a VPN at the time? And it wouldn't let me use it because it's not my currency so I contacted support and they changed it 10. 7 Canadian is about 5 us. I was just looking for a straight conversion.

Figure out how to have 3d facing you straight on and tell me how

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to grab that, should be cool to play in VR.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

It's very, very cool. With a Star Wars themed pad to play in. Having the whole machine there is very nice, you can really see your table goals much more easily.
Unfortunately the frame rate isn't as good and the tables are much lower rez and more blurry than on the PS5. But it's still very cool to play and mess around with. Just gave it a quick play this morning, but I liked it. At $12.50 (or less with coupon) for 8 tables, it's a heck of a deal. I think I can send a referral code for a discount for you and a coupon for me. PM me if interested.

Thanks for the tip. No we can something other than Beat Saber and Gorilla Tag. ;)

(I have a Meta Quest 2)

Also, which headstrap would you recommend?

This is probably overkill, but it also makes the Quest sound better, and is really comfortable. The HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap:

Obviously, it's not cheap, and it needs a little $12 adapter you can buy on Amazon, but I really like it.

I use the official Occulus Quest Elite Strap, and really like it. Very comfortable and easy to use. Worth it.

I also keep everything in this hard case, which you can buy for $20 with coupon on Amazon. Very highly recommended

I got the Elite strap with the battery since the battery life sucks ass, plus it helps to counter the front loaded weight a little bit.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I have a Quest 2 and I have a Star Wars pinball game that I got in a bundle a while back with the Vader Immortal games. I haven't played it recently but I don't remember it having 8 different tables, though, so I will look when I get home and see if it's the same game.

I also recently got the following:

Eleven Table Tennis - pretty fun and you can set different difficulty levels and adjust the physics of the play (spin, drag, etc.)

Golf+ - I am not much of a golfer, but the gameplay is more realistic than I imagined it would be--my real-life tendency to 'slice' shows up in my VR shots, too. I think you can do a lot with the basic game, but there's also a lot of in-game purchases available (new courses, new clubs, etc.) that I tend to avoid.

Superhot VR - this is a lot of fun, the simple, stylish aesthetic is great and the gameplay (time only moves forward when you physically move) is cool.

Those Golf and Table Tennis games are pretty fun. So much content in Golf+ between the courses, the Top Golf driving range and the (admittedly bare bones) putting courses.

Thanks Decker. I already have that case. It came in the bundle I got a year ago. It’s a good case and glad the Elite strap will fit in it.

Vader Immortal Bundle is half price ($15) for all three eps. I might jump on that.

The pinball I got has 8 tables and I played the Mando one. Pretty cool. I’ll have more time when the semester is over.

Okay, I just spent an hour playing Star Wars pinball. :) It's actually 10 different tables on mine, I must not have looked closely before or they added some in an update. I just played ANH and ESB in classic mode. I earned some posters, a full-size stormtrooper, and some helmets. Got 'em on display in the game room there. Pretty cool setup. I wish I could sit on the speeder bike. Oh, and I unlocked a couple of jukebox songs. Goldberg74, I'm also looking forward to the end of the semester so I can play around on my Quest 2 more and avoid yard work.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

The problem is that the view is good for whole table, but 3D shifts it, so it's not the Oculus (I've done the reset many times and tried both stationary and room boundaries). If I'm doing top town, the flippers are right in the middle. If I'm doing 3D, the flippers are slightly to the side, rotated from me.

How do you get the top down view? I don't see an option for that.

Okay, that's not the problem view? There's another option? Why would you ever want a different view than standing in front of the pinball table?

They have vr mode that makes it seems like you're part of the table. That's the one that doesn't work, the flippers are off to the side.

Cellar Door 05-03-23 02:49 AM

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

Still not sure what you mean. The regular view standing in front of the table is 3D and VR.

ETA: Okay, I figured it out.
After you start a game, pressing the 'Y' button on the left controller takes you down into the close-up, table-level view. Neat option, though I don't think I'd want to play it that way much.
Once you're down in that view, you can toggle your position between the left side of the table, the center, or the right side of the table by using the 'grip' buttons on the controller handles. So if the flippers are off to your right, squeeze and release the right grip button and it should move you to the bottom-center of the table. If the flippers are on your left, use the left grip button to move to the center.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I had already tried all three views and all three were off-centered.

Today I tried it and it just worked  perfectly centered

I don't play for points because I suck anyway, so 3d is fantastic for me and will be my main way to play. There's also this really comfy armchair I like to use to play on and I can't use it in main mode because it doesn't let me back up enough to pull the plunger.

This is the way to play pinball.

Cellar Door 05-03-23 08:33 AM

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

^You can also launch the ball by pressing the 'A' button instead of pulling the plunger out.

Gah. Gotta try this later, thanks! That's how it works with 3D mode.

I'm not really used to the Oculus controls, I don't use it much and when I do it's work out stuff with minimal button involvement.

That's all-or-nothing, making hitting Skill shots impossible. Using the right grip button gives you an analog lauch of the plunger.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

Getting used to the controls. Yep normal mode works just fine. I have trouble remembering I'm not actually playing a pinball table. I got a poster! Is this a game in which if you play enough eventually you will unlock everything 5 points at a time or you have to be good at it? At least you can play all tables. This was worth the price of admission just for the novelty. I can be in my comfy chair now and play normal mode, thanks for the A tip!

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

I mentioned in the PS5 thread that I finally was able to buy a PSVR2 from Game Stop.
Having both that and an Oculus Quest provides some interesting contrasts. Yes the Quest is nice in that it's cord-free. Can't imagine swinging a pretend golf club around with my PSVR next to my TV.
That said, the PSVR2 is so much more advanced and therefor so much more immersive. Not at all blurry, no laggy frame rates. When you look at something with it, you see it clearly. It's a completely different experience than the Quest which always feels kind of phony and artificial -- at least not realistic to the point of immersion. I tried a little of No Man's Sky. It was pretty immersive, but once I got in my spaceship, grabbed the controls and started flying? Geez, my head was spinning and I felt a little motion sickness. It was WILD! Completely different sort of experience.

What PSVR2 games are you guys enjoying? I have my eye on the Kayak one, but will wait for a sale.

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

Okay well it turns out that the PSVR2 killer app is actually... Gran Turismo 7.
I played just a little tonight and it is really remarkable how realistic it feels when you're behind a wheel and actually in a car, looking out your windows, checking your rear view mirror. It's totally amazing. I played with my Dual Sense, but next time I will try with the VR controllers instead.

Decker 06-01-23 11:59 AM

re: The VR Gaming Thread (Meta Quest, Vive, PSVR)

Interesting article on PSVR2 at 3 months mark.

The general consensus is that there aren't enough (especially exclusive) games for it yet, and I certainly agree with that. But none of the Editors interviewed for the story even mentioned GT7 or No Man's Land which are the two games that I think really distinguish this platform from a Meta Quest 2. I think they might be game-changers (especially GT7), so to not ever mention them is a pretty big oversight.

I'll be tempted once again, but I think I'm going to pass on this one. I tend to get them, play heavily for a few months and then start letting the dust collect. :(

Looks nice--especially the slimmer profile. I've been getting a lot of use out of my Quest 2 (and my Go before that), so I will probably get the 3 at some point, though I tend to wait awhile after the initial release before I buy a new system.
