Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The $100 alone isn't a problem. That's your Kinect which is one of the most popular pieces of consumer tech in the past couple of decades.
The $100 difference within minutes of announcing no DRM on disc-based games? Deadly.
Microsoft has maybe a week to announce a Kinect-free console at $400 with no disc-based DRM to even be in the game. They're in a position where they're gonna have to scramble to get to where Sony is now comfortably sitting.
Best-case scenario for Microsoft: they completely compromise to be competitive and hope their obvious dominance from the last generation is enough to make up for the weakness and desperation that will cloud any change in their gameplan.
There's no path for a Microsoft advantage. They're gonna have to fight hard to compete.

Due to the overwhelming positive reaction to Sony not bothering with the same DRM nonsense, does anyone think MS might just scrap their stupid plans for it as well, or is it too late?

Its hard to bet on Microsoft right now, I'm not doing it(*), but I don't think it's game over.
Microsoft is betting in brand loyalty. And all the COD, FIFA, Madden, etc. gamers that are hooked up on Xbox Live. They don't care about the restrictions, because they are not affected.
So we will see.
(*) I'm not betting that they going to win in sales, but I'm buying one.

I have no idea how anyone could think that this will outsell PS4 this year after what we just saw, but if you guys say so

Is that something they can even do though? I would assume that would mean a complete console and game format overhaul, which sounds impossible at this time.

I'm not up to speed with the Wii U. I still have the old Wii. Is the Wii considered a bust or something?

I'm buying an Xbox One too. I don't buy used or borrow and I'm always-on on my 360 even when I'm not playin multiplayer. But I'm not foolish enough to suggest that my gaming habits represent everyone else's habits.

Saw the Sony Live presentation and they did really well. Some pretty good games for the system...The Order relly stood out. They did play "Destiny"....and it was sight to see...almost a bit of Borderlands meets Definace the show but 20 times the detail and look. And a Mad Max game...wow.
They came out and shot across MS bow with....
Fully supports used games...
No online connection required
A $399 price tag
and late in the presentation made a comment about Sony on "full ownership & trust"....probably another jab at MS about the issues with used games, consoles, internet connection, Kinect being included and MS ties to the NSA.
Right now it's a toss up for me on both systems. Have plenty of friends on 360 but after seeing the Sony Show....I'll wait and see what MS does. When I got the 360 it was Halo and GOW that sold the 360...Well Halo is a ways off and there is no GOW; only Titanfall at best. But Destiny is on both and it rocked on the PS4.

They are ahead of their time.
They won't change unless the system doesn't sells.
I kind of compare this with Sony and the PS3 with bluray.

I suppose. I mean, MS said that it's up to the publisher to restrict things anyways right? They didn't say that THEY were doing it, meaning all MS studios games would be normal DRM free games? I guess they could switch to ALL games being DRM free.

The Wii U has not sold very well, no. What you said is part of the problem. This isn't "the new Wii", it's an entirely different system that doesn't share much of any connection with the Wii itself. Lack of first party titles and a really silly name hasn't helped it any.

But you definitely represent the large majority of gamers, which is why it's not that huge of an issue for most...myself included.

I'm fairly certain Sony had something similar planned and they siezed on the backlash over the Microsoft gameplan and changed at the last minute. So I doubt it's really too late for Microsoft.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I bet we see a HUGE number of 3rd party games going XBOX only this generation due to the fact of the publishers disliking used games and not seeing a profit. Sony will have to pay a lot to keep them, where as they will welcome MS and the consoles restrictions. This is why I doubt MS will change anything. They don't need to and the publishers don't want them to. While this may seem like a "win" for Sony right now, in the long run, lack of games will show the real winner.

Totally eating crow on Sony opting for a DRM-free cheaper console. Cancelled my Xbox One preorder. No reason to put up with the nonsense.

Yes, let's cater to the publishers at the expense of the gamers. Seems like a winning strategy to me.

True, but gamers want games don't they? I'm not saying I like it, just proposing my theory on the whole situation.

Microsoft should have included backwards compatibility. Now there's absolutely no reason for anyone to stay with them.
