Some speculation on the other game tiles shown on the Xbox One dashboard.

E3 will probably be the showcase and several surprises. I find it quite unusual that Epic has been really quite for awhile. They're the ones who the last couple of years were saying their Unreal Engine was being held back (Crytek as well). And no-way Cliffy B. has been kept out-of-the-loop on this one.

Major Nelson has a picture of what the cases will look like. Not much different than 360 games: http://www.whosay.com/larry/photos/346167

New case designs are by far the cleanest, nicest looking cases of any console ever. I'm quite pleased with them...nice and simple with big game art on the cover.

Not really, other than that it's a shade of green. Its BR instead of DVD and doesn't have Kinect crap plastered all over it, since everyone has a Kinect. I personally think that this case and the Battlefield 4 case have a more subtle/simplistic look to them and are very nice. Almost like some custom covers people make.

Okay, some of the gist I'm getting from all the bitching on this new device:
*Issues with used games, renting & borrowing games.
*Lack of backwards compatibility.
*Hardcore gamers who don't give a shit about the device having TV multimedia capabilities.
*Gamers who hate the Kinect and refuse to use it as part of everyday usage on the new device.
I know this is an Xbox thread, but some have mentioned that the Wii U is sitting gathering dust. Is that console regarded as a bust or something or just most of you are too lazy to play it? I have the old Wii and I admit, I rarely play it and I haven't kept up with the Wii U and Nintendo.

Hardly any system has/had backward compatibility. SNES, N64, PS3 and 360 barely did and now do not. I don't see the issue there, it's what you should expect.
If you don't like the TV switching and Kinect stuff, then don't use it. People are now bitching about EXTRA features that some may find appealing...it's nuts.
Overall, I think the only valid complaints are how it will handle being online and whats really up with used games. Other than that, it's going to play next-gen games, have a cloud, share/stream footage and be powerful just like the PS4. I'm personally grabbing the XB first due to my love for achievements, a better controller and better online services. I'll get a PS4 eventually, mainly for cheap games from work and the odd exclusive every year or so.

Yeah, it's mainly people bitching just to bitch. The only "problem" I have the the used game thing, and they have now stated that it does indeed play used games w/o a fee. I still want more info though.

Besides the things that people here are bitching just to bitch about, the new console does seem to have some cool new features for a next Gen device. I may not be in a position right now to splurge on it and new games right away, but I am looking forward to learning more about it and whether or not it's worth the money to make the jump in the future.
No one is pressuring you to buy this right away. If you have more important things to worry about like paying your rent, car, groceries, then hold off and wait until you have the time and money.

I could have lived with no disc BC, but it's the digital stuff that gets me. You'd expect Live Arcade games to be transferred over, but even that won't be. Granted, the PS4 also isn't transferring downloaded games, but if Gaikai offers you PS1, 2, and 3 games for a monthly subscription fee, that won't matter, and you'll have full BC again.
The Wii could play Gamecube games, and now the Wii U can play Wii games, and you can transfer over purchases from the Wii. I still have my Wii just to play Gamecube games on (I love you, Eternal Darkness). So don't act like BC doesn't matter to anyone or that no manufacturer has ever been able to incorporate BC.
Additionally, a big competitor to console gaming is mobile gaming. If I have an iPad 1, and I upgrade to an iPad 4 (or whatever they're calling the latest one), I can still use all the apps and games I had on the 1. This is the new expectation. Stuff should be able to migrate. Look at how many older generation games got re-released this gen. It'll be even more if we continue to let manufacturers to get away with dumping BC.

Now hold on a sec. The 60 GB PS3 (and maybe also the 80 GB?) natively supported all PS1 and PS2 games. True, they dropped BC later, but if you wanted a PS3 with BC, they existed. I have two, and never switched to a slim specifically because of the BC. And yes, I still play PS2 games.

To a majority of gamers, BC isn't a big deal, but there are plenty that appreciate it, and again I'm very curious to see how Gaikai turns out.

Backwards compatibility has always been something video game console makers have to consider when releasing a new console. There is appeal to having it, and it is a selling point for some. So while one can't expect every console to have it, it's not that outlandish a consideration.

interesting. this is what their site says:
i thought when they changed the BC stuff on the PS2, they took away the PS1 BC as well. my bad.
Due to the availability of an extensive line-up of PS3™ system titles, the 500GB PS3™ system is not backwards compatible with PlayStation®2 titles, but does maintain backwards compatibility for some original PlayStation® titles.

PS1 BC is emulation, but PS2 required additional hardware inside the PS3.

No, not really.
Who said this? Link?
As pointed out:
PS2
PS3
Xbox 360
Wii
WiiU
Genesis
That's quite a few. I'm with Supermallet, it's the digital games that chaps my hide. Everything is one's and zero's now. It's not an unreasonable expectation in a world of iOS carrying things over. Why can't the X1 run an emulator?
Again, no. There are people out there with unique setups that don't want required Kinect. Anyone with a projector likely has the A/V rack in the back of the room. If Kinect was wireless it would be a non-issue, but it appears that's not the case. People also game in bedrooms. Do you want an always seeing 'eye' watching and listening to you in the bedroom?
Yes, even if it only checks in once a day you're still at the mercy of Live always working. What happens when Live is out and your box can't validate your game? What happens when this generation is over and servers are shut down?
I have no disagreement here. There are some sweet features (I actually like the TV & Kinect stuff) but sacrificing my rights as a consumer over the products I buy doesn't seem worth it at this juncture. As someone else pointed out, if games were $40 many, including myself, would forgo the trade/sell/rent benefit, but that'll never happen.
You may not take issue with some of these things, but they are valid complaints and not people "bitching just to be bitching." There are a metric ton of questions that need answers and MS isn't being very forthcoming.

Someone said it doesn't, then someone said it does, then someone else said "maybe, but..." then someone else said "well yes it does, but not the way you think."
It's why I'm taking a wait and see approach. (Actually, it was the official Xbox Support Twitter that said "no fees for activating used games" on the day of the announcement, that's the only place I've seen it.)
