Might affect it to some degree, but retailers that don't specialize in video games will always need to get rid of old stock to make room for new stock. They only have so much room.

I thought they said in the presentation that no games will carry over from the 360, period.

Now there are no fees associated with used games, and the original Wired story is said to be completely incorrect.

According to this, it won't use more power than the 360.

Not that I'm surprised, but this reveal didn't sway my decision. There's just nothing that makes me want to upgrade. Maybe Mass Effect 4 or Alan Wake 2. It's going to need to have some impressive games to make me forget about all the negatives.
I'm just not impressed by this generation of consoles thus far.

Microsoft is not dumb.
A lot of us have multiple Xboxes at home, and yeah we play the same game in two different consoles at different times.
That shouldn't change with Xbox One.
How? Not sure, maybe same way it's now, without inserting the disc. But you have to login into Xbox live with your account of course.

I'm pretty sure everyone here knew you were never 'in' to begin with.
This "small" fee is bad news for consumers all around. It's not just about buying used games, that's only half of the coin. Not being able to resell shitty games (at a decent amount) is crap and it will affect non-AAA title sales. Who's going to take a $60 chance on an unproven game if that safety net is removed?

Fuck. They need to figure out something for Rock Band. I have too much money sunk into that game. Luckily, other than all the pinball games, I don't have a ton of stuff on Live that I would mind giving up...but I am still not sold on this system yet. I will likely wait at least a year to see if I would be better served with the Xbox or the PS.

If nothing else, I'm hoping the lack of backwards compatibility means some awesome sales on DLC and arcade games on the 360's marketplace in the next year.

Microsoft attempts to clear up the fee/no fee thing.

Only reason I'm following the console news is to see how powerful they will be, and what hideous DRM they have planned - to see where PC games will then be headed.
I think this console generation is critical in terms of defining the future of gaming. It's a totally different world than when the XBox 360 and PS3 launched. PCs are more competitive as gaming platforms, indie development has taken off, broadband is everywhere. I'm not positive about it.

I thought it was funny to read comments on the Steam forum a while back when the rumor about no used games on the PS4 came out. Most of the comments were that it was a terrible idea, it would certainly fail, etc. - oh, you mean just like Steam?
I'm not too positive about the future of gaming either, with all this mobile and casual focus, free-to-play, microtransactions, etc.

Sooo, forgive me if I missed it but will the current XBOX's and LIVE still work when this X1 comes out?

Additionally, Engadget reports the machine will come with a 500GB hard drive that is non-replaceable, but the USB 3.0 slots can be used for external storage.

This is what was stupid of Microsoft. Come out and give us clear details of the used game situation so there isn't all this speculation and misinformation. I don't see how any pr person or firm would advise them to do this.

External storage for WHAT, though? Hopefully it will be for more than movies and music.
Giantrobo, the original Xbox had the Live plug pulled in 2010, so they should continue to support the 360 for a while. BTW, I prefer XO as the abbreviation - it's less likely to be confused with the original Xbox. XOXO, XO!
