Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)

Xbox One will turn on faster than your TV while in stand-by mode
http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/4/506...-stand-by-mode

Xbox One is likely to turn on faster than your television when powered from its stand-by mode, according to Xbox director of product planning Albert Penello in a statement on Reddit.

Penello gives a clearer idea into how the new console functions, explaining the system's three power stages as "On is On. Off is Off. Standby allows 'Xbox On', quick resume, checking for updates, etc."

"[Standby] is the mode we'd like to see people in, obviously, so you get back to gaming or watching TV really quick. From standby, it's likely the Xbox will be on before the TV is completely powered up."

We've contacted Microsoft for details of how much time Xbox One takes to boot from its off setting, and how much power is required when leavin the console on in stand-by mode. We will update when more information is available.

Xbox One will launch Nov. 22 in most regions.

It's probably because it takes 15 minutes to turn on.
When I saw the Best Buy people setting up the systems before I played Forza 5, I swear it sat at that loading screen for a really long time... it was less than 5 minutes... but still. Those were units that definitely did not have final firmware/OS, though.

So having children beating cute animals to death with their hands, pinatas or not, is a good idea in your book?

I loved the first Viva Piñata. The second was not so good. I agree with xmiyux, would make for a cool Kinect game.

God, I just... that's PC level bullshit I can't wrap my head around anymore. Will it play Forza when I push start, that's all I want to know at this point. I mean, it's good that people understand this stuff so I know to get BF4 on PS4 if I decide to get it, but any more detail as to why gives me a headache.

Don't tell anybody, but three more games run in 1080p: Disney Fantasia, Kinect Sports and UFC. Shhhhhh

I assumed most games that aren't graphically intensive would run on 1080p on both consoles.

Fantasia actually looks pretty solid. I'm always down for anything from Harmonix.

Okay this Every 2 Minutes promotion/contest/auction whatever is a sham. All the winning bids are astronomical. People would have had to have eaten a thousand bags of Doritos washed down with five thousand Dews to get the number of points they have.

Yeah.. I was noticing the same thing. All of the open auctions are going for high amounts. 50,000 to over 100,000 points.

I have 1200 points and can't even bid on anything. I thought I might have a chance later in the contest, as people would use up their points bidding. But after reading the FAQ, any non-winners get their points returned at the end of the auction. So they will always be really high.

Seriously, I hope they adjust some things and give people with lower points chances to win.

The only hope I have is to use my sweepstakes credits to get an entry in those daily sweepstakes drawings. But its such a small chance to win.

These are the point values for dew and doritos

I mean I guess we can try the sweepstakes entries. That seems to be for non-psychopaths like most of us.

I grabbed a Dew and Doritos the other day just to throw my hat in the ring. The whole auction thing sounded like a sham when I read about it, after hearing the point totals buying the prizes I'm not surprised.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)

In Canada, the promotion works a bit differently.
If you buy Dew/Pepsi, you get a code, eligible for one "entry."
If you buy Doritos, you get a code, eligible for one "entry."
If you buy Dew/Pepsi + Doritos, you get two codes, eligible for FIVE "entries."

Then, every hour (Between 12PM and 12AM EST), you can enter your codes at the promo site (wineveryhour.ca), and one entry is picked randomly, and that person gets an XO. Losing entries cannot be reused, so the chance of winning is strictly dependent on how many entries you have for that hour vs. how many total entries there are for that hour.
What sucks is that they don't display the winning code when the hour is up... they just say they'll call the winner within 48 hours, and they may require the winner to provide proof that they have the code (oh, and a mathematical skill-testing question, of course)

That's (basically) how the 360 launch promo with Mountain Dew went down. I entered a ton, never won

Yeah that's what I recall too. This "bank all your points then try and win an auction with them" is horseshit gunsmoke.

Provide the code? Who saves trash?

Yeah I recall the 360 one, and it worked well enough. Why fix what ain't broken? Hell the Halo 4 contest worked fine too.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)

The one in the U.S. wouldn't be as bad if the people spending points to bid lost the points regardless if they won or not. It would give people that didn't go on a Dew and Dorito binge to rack up 100,000 points or more a chance towards the end of the promotion.. But since they give all points back to the people that don't win, all auctions are going to end up going for 100,000 points or more. My only shot is the daily giveaway sweepstakes that each code gives you one entry for and then you can apply to a sweepstakes. I have 2 entries in for the one today.

The people with that many points probably have jobs where they get access to a lot of empties. In high school, I worked in the bottle return at a local grocery store, and Mountain Dew was running a promotion where they had all kinds of stuff you could order depending on how many caps you had (it was infamous promotion where they said you could get a jet for however many million caps in the commercial as a joke, and someone tried to redeem it). I got a ton of stuff from that promotion by just taking the caps from the dew empties people would return.
