Uplay on Xbox One, PS4 "deeply integrated" in-game, has dedicated app

Uplay's presence on Xbox One and PS4 has been revealed by Ubisoft.
The publisher's online service, which provides social connections with friends and earning rewards across platforms, will now be "deeply integrated in games".
It will also be accessible as a dedicated app on the new systems, similar to Uplay's presence on Wii U.
"You'll be able to have the same features you have right now on the console experience," head of online services Stephanie Perotti told Digital Spy.
"The thing I can't say - because we're not quite ready to show it, because of next-gen and because of the advancements on the technological side as well - our key focus is to make this experience as simple and seamless as possible.
"The barriers we had on previous generations of consoles go away. It's not like a barrier to go there and to redeem a reward, but it's something we will bring to you naturally in your game."
Ubisoft is also "looking into" additional cross-platform features across all of Uplay, such as chat, multiplayer and possibly even saves.
However, these features would only be implemented where there are "obvious connections", and offer similar user experiences.
"How does it make sense? Is it the exactly the same game, is a different game?"said Perotti.
"The way we see it, we are there to enhance the game experience, not create something you wouldn't naturally do. Some games might not be suitable to be played across different platforms because of control or UI."
Perotti also teased an "advanced" version of its loyalty program, which currently focuses on in-game rewards, but is looking to also "offer other games, other sources and other ways to earn units and spend them across all Ubisoft titles".
Additional reward examples include physical objects and real world events. Ubisoft recently invited fans to E3 to see its lineup, as well as its annual Digital Days event in Paris.
Ubisoft will also release version 4.0 of its Uplay PC client in October, with a "more robust platform" and download manager, improved sharing functionality and integrated Twitch streaming.
"The key was to bring a high quality of service all around, better tools, better functionality, but also more social and connectivity that you can interact and share with your friends in a more natural way," Perotti added.
Ubisoft will release Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Just Dance 2014 and Fighter Within by the end of the year.

Re: Xbox One: Thoughts Turn Ironic on November 22nd
I think everyone is saying the truth.
Let's start at the beginning. You have read about gaming development before, they are always behind, if it's a yearly released title, they are dropping features until the last minute, and they still release the game with some bugs. And of course that can happen with big games too, that spend a lot of time in development. Now, I'm sure they had less time with these next gen consoles, and they still need to deliver the games on time. And of course they have less knowledge about them. At least some of them.
So I can see some of them getting frustrated and venting online. Not a smart move, but they are humans too. We saw that this generation, with the PS3, even Gabe Newell talked shit about it, and then had to, kind of, eat his words.
So yeah, at the beginning one may be more easy to program than another, for some people at least, and one may be more powerful. We may even saw screenshots or videos of one FPS game showing a difference in resolution and/or frame rate, like we saw this generation.
But for most, all?, people the game is going to look the same. I really hope we don't see some of the performance issues we saw earlier with the PS3.

I'm curious as to implementing and upgrading the drivers later on. Since the OS is a kernel version of WIN 8 are these drivers Direct X related? I would think with a mild version of WIN 8 installed as the OS that MS would have some advantage in the driver department...?
I'll say that the Sony guys working on the PS4 are ridiculously smart, so I wouldn't worry about their drivers. I'm sure MS has their own share of geniuses as well.

Yeah, I really don't use Uplay for anything except the rewards parts of the games.

Just logged into Uplay (for Rayman Legends Wiiu)last night for the first time since I signed up years ago for a Prince of Persia game.
Not sure I get the hate. It's just another area to unlock rewards for your games. It's totally superfluous but nice for someone wanting more challenges or things to shoot for in their game.
Using it as a tool to create cross platform harmony sounds pretty cool, IMO.

Since the PS4 thread title was updated, how about some synergy?
Xbox One: Way less GBs and tflops, but $100 more! (11/22) ?

Xbox One: Weaker and $100 more, but you wanted Kinect, right? (11/22)
We'll never see synergy though...PS3 thread has had a shitty title for 2 years.

Who else would hack besides hackers? Only hackers hack.
I probably wasn't as mad about it as most people were, because I was in Afghanistan at the time. The net result for me was a couple of extra months of PS+ and some free games.

Well plenty of people were mad about it. And even the ones who aren't mad about it don't give two shits about the name of any thread titles on the DVD Talk forums.

Re: Xbox One: Thoughts Turn Ironic on November 22nd
Microsoft responds to all the specs bullshit, basically says "nuh-uh".
“Ten years ago, you could argue that a console’s power was summed up in terms of a few of its specs, but Xbox One is designed as a powerful machine to deliver the best blockbuster games today and for the next decade.
Xbox One architecture is much more complex than what any single figure can convey. It was designed with balanced performance in mind, and we think the games we continue to show running on near-final hardware demonstrate that performance. In the end, we’ll let the consoles and their games speak for themselves.”
