That's good. Not a big deal like some may think. I mean it's not "Get the Xbox 360 game and pay $10 for the Xbox One version!!!!" You pay $60 (MSRP), for both games, and then you are emailed a $50 coupon, for a third game of your like.
Yeah, you can end up getting the second game for $10, but not directly, without extra work, from Gamestop.

Can you earn two sets of Achievements for the same game (i.e. Playing Call of Duty Ghosts on Xbox 360 and on Xbox One)?
WHITTEN: Every game has its own set of achievements, so if you’re playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox 360 and on Xbox One, you can earn a separate set of Gamerscore in each game. But on the Xbox One version, you’re getting a much richer set of features, such as seeing your achievements progress on the Xbox One console, being able to unlock new achievements throughout the year, and earning real prizes inside and outside of the game. Xbox One also enables a new concept of challenges, where games will be offering special time-based opportunities to earn various goals and collect the rewards. More info on challenges can be found on Major Nelson's blog here.
So now GameStop is jumping on that opportunity with this:
Gamestop to offer $50 credit with trade of select 360 games for Xbox One versions
Gamestop will offer $50 trade-in credit to PowerUp Rewards members who buy a new, Xbox 360 version of a game and then trade it back in for the Xbox One version. The promotion is valid for the Xbox versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Madden 25, FIFA 14, Battlefield 4 or Assassin's Creed 4.
In order to be eligible to receive the trade-in credit, patrons must be PowerUp Rewards members at the time of the initial purchase, which must take place within 30 days of the game's release date. Then, upon trading the game in for the Xbox One version, the customer will be emailed a $50 coupon that must be used before December 31 of this year.

But why would you initially get the 360 version and later the One (unless you didn't buy the One at launch but later on in the year)? Is it just for the achievements?

Here's the thing though : It's one thing to say "Microsoft should make it $100 cheaper", it's quite another to go to your shareholders and explain that your company is going to cut the cost of one of their primary products and take an additional $100 loss on each unit. It's much easier to slash MSRP if you can make the product for less. Sony removed the costly Cell Processor chip from the PS3 to manufacture the PS3 for less. This is a far easier fix, just disconnect the Kinect from the box. That has to be costing MS nearly $100 right there. The big hurdle for MS is accepting the Kinect 2 as an accessory and not as a part of the XO. That's where they're stuck at right now. Originally Posted by Dan

I think it's sort of comical talking about the appearance of the console when it's far less likely to be noticed when compared to a huge black brick sitting on top of your HDTV. I think MS really under-appreciated how valuable that real estate on top of the HDTV really is, especially for an avid gamer who might already have a sensor bar and/or another camera up there already, or for the home theater aficionado who doesn't like the look of a huge boxy camera on top of his mounted TV. The beauty of HDMI is that it allows all your necessary connections to your TV to be run via one small cable. The Kinect (or any other camera accessory) requires a second cable and either unsightly wires or another professional installation. Yes, you can stick it in the back of your cabinet and turn it off (essentially), but that comes all the way back around to the initial question "Why did I pay $100 for an accessory I don't want and can't use?".

For one thing, some games are out on the 360 before the One launches. Madden comes out at the end of this month, FIFA 14 on September 24th, Ass Creed 4 and BF4 comes out October 29th. With no backwards compatibility, it relieves the issue of wanting to play those games right away and not having to wait until the new console is out. I know i'm buying Madden, but have a One still preordered. Originally Posted by Gizmo

Also, the One is currently sold out at Gamestop so not being able to get the One at launch is likely for some, or having to wait until Christmas.
I think it has less to do with double achievements, even though some will probably seek that out.

please just stay out of this thread. please. you are doing yourself no favors. as fumanstan just pointed out, there are several games that have 360 releases far before the One versions come out. someone may really want to play the game for a bit on a 360, before they upgrade.Originally Posted by chess

Or, in the case of multiplayer games, friends might not get the One for a while and are not getting the 360 version of the game. The multiplayer thing is a good reason too. A friend of mine bought the same game on 360 and PS3 to play with different groups of people, so not much different here too.

But aren't Sony gamers going to face the same thing? I haven't kept up much on the PS4 since I'm not likely to get one, or at least won't be getting one at launch. Are there no games that will be released on the PS3 and then the PS4 as well?

Just the same multiplatform stuff that's going to be pretty much on everything (Assassin's Creed 4, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty 17, Need for Speed, sport games, etc)

All 5 games included in this offer are being released on both PS3/PS4 as well. So the situation applies to those systems. It's not known the deal behind this Gamestop offer. It's possible that Microsoft offered something, possibly covering part or all of the credit.Originally Posted by Canis Firebrand

Note that in the Gamestop press release, it states that the credit is good for the upgrade:

GameStop is offering PowerUp Rewards members a special, limited time opportunity to receive a $50 guaranteed minimum credit for select standard edition Xbox 360 titles when a member upgrades to the new Xbox One standard version of that title...
"This offer gives PUR members the chance to upgrade their current Xbox 360 game for the new Xbox One standard version of that game for $9.99..."
Following the purchase of an eligible current generation title, members will receive the guaranteed $50.00 trade-credit coupon via email and in their PowerUp Rewards Active Offers.
So assuming both versions are, say, $60, you're only out-of-pocket $70 after buying the 360 title, trading it in, and buying the Xbox One version. To that point it was all about getting achievements on both versions, which is patently dumb...and it would be for trophies too. No, it sounds like the other people can play using their unique gamertags. So if their gamertag normally doesn't have Gold, when they login to your Gold Xbox One, or you log into their Xbox One, their gamertag temporarily has Gold access.Originally Posted by Ocelot

2. Always been an Xbox supporter over Sony.

5. Sony first party games may have looked great, but the games didn't interest me. Outside of The Last of Us, I never cared for Uncharted, Ratchet, God of War, Killzone, etc.
Wow, that's pretty extreme and lopsided... I prefer the PS3 over X360, but I still game on the X360 (never a gold member though). Just curious as a gamer, what kind of games do you play?Originally Posted by nickdawgy
