I have a nice headset and would rather not have to upgrade it. |

Nope, the Xbox One uses a power brick. The power connector on the Xbone is the same as for the 360 Slim, so presumably it'll use the same brick.

I hope it uses the same brick. It'll make re-wiring my living room a lot easier as I can move the Slim out and put the XO in.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
He doesn't need 360 games. Time to move on.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Well some good new regarding the Headsets for the XO...to some extent. MS is working on an adaptor to make 360 units work on the XO...but only ones wired. Don't know if they mean just mono ones wired to the controller or ones like some of the TB series that are connected to the contoller and USB port for power.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Right now, after checking my setup, this is not an issue to me. I use my Tritton mostly as headphones, I don't use the mic most of the time. So if the mic doesn't work no loss to me. Although I'm sure someone will release an adapter.
I actually get the sound from the TV, so I use my Trittons for the Xbox and watching TV. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
360 related, but I'm assuming this will be policy going forward.
Microsoft has allegedly dropped the update fee associated with Xbox 360 titles, reports Eurogamer. Citing multiple development sources, Microsoft is said to have changed the policy earlier this year of charging developers tens of thousands of dollars to patch their games. The company will continue to charge a certification fee for the initial submission of a game to XBLA, but future updates are now free. The policy's critics have grown over the years, with the proliferation of the indie scene and the economic viability of just going to Steam, where updates are free. The most high-profile spat in recent times was between Microsoft and Fez developer Phil Fish, after a "nasty" bug was found that would wipe save files. Microsoft was going to charge its standard fee for Fish to update the game on Xbox Live, with Fish refusing to pay "tens of thousands of dollars." Fez 2 will not make its way to Xbox One. With Sony's open courtship of the indie devs, not to mention the focus the company provided during their E3 press conference, Microsoft is on defense in terms of keeping the burgeoning scene happy in this era of digital distribution. The Xbox platform for indies (and their less substantial budgets) isn't what it once was back in the time of Limbo or Braid. But, you know, Microsoft is used to playing defense by now. |

Back to real, new news!
Microsoft rumored to be announcing their indie self publishing plan on Wednesday in San Fran. Internet sleuth Superannuation tweeted last night, “Some people seem to think Microsoft will announce some self-publishing/indie Xbox One stuff this week at their Build Developer Conference.” Meanwhile, on the same subject, Markus “Notch” Persson tweeted “I know something about this, but I’m not allowed to say. :(“ The tweet has since been deleted. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/n...ublishing.html They have always said that there is a plan in place for indie games, it will be interesting to see what they come up with. One of the best features of PS3/PS4 is all the quirky Japanese and indie PSN games. I really want to see these for the Xbox. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Good question. never heard anything so I'm guessing no. Pretty sure they didn't talk about the Xbox much there.

If anything, so much negative reaction for everything Microsoft is making them change a lot of policies. |

The development platform is still unclear, but Microsoft did note it will support native apps on Xbox One alongside web versions. It appears that developers may need to work with development tools that are almost identical to Windows 8 tools to create Xbox One apps. Microsoft also announced a new partnership with Unity to support all Microsoft platforms, including Windows, Windows Phone, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. The toolset lets developers more easily develop games to run across multiple platforms. |

More details are needed, but this kind of cross-platform development seems like a good thing. Edit: Shit, I guess avatars are free for all now. Kind of weird to see that old one pop back up! |

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
All this cross platform and indie development is useless to me until they start adopting smartphone game pricing on the consoles. I pretty much abandoned XBLA gaming a long long time ago because paying $5-$20 for an arcade game is ridiculous. Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja are free or $1 on phones, yet $10-$40 on the Xbox? They really need some $1-$2 games.
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds are ridiculously overpriced. I felt fine paying whatever it was I paid for Super Meat Boy and the Splosion Man games.
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Yeah, I'm not saying a few games aren't worth $5-10, heck I paid $10 for all 5 episodes of The Walking Dead, that seems about right. Just in general, it's all pretty overpriced and I think the titles would do a lot better if the price was lowered to iTunes pricing. I would gladly pay $1 to play Fruit Ninja or something on my TV and get achievements, probably even $2. Seems to me that if a game is $2 instead of the now default $15, a shitload more people would give it a try, thus giving them more sales overall in the long run.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
You also have to keep in mind that Microsoft charges a lot more to put a game up than iTunes and Google's AppStore. At least I imagine it's in surplus of that $40,000 "patch" fee.
That should change this next gen. |

Angry Birds was ridiculously overpriced though. Xbox does have $1-$2 games, they're in the Xbox Live Indie Game store. There's no fee for placing a game in the store, and developers get the standard 70/30 split of app stores. The problem with XBLIG was the restrictions on it (small download size, required to be built in XNA, no acheivements, have to be online to start games) and the lack of promotion by MS relegated it to the background. Meanwhile, the XBLA store required a "real" publisher and had a limited number of "slots" for releasing games. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Yep, just hoping a lot of that changes this generation. The best thing Playstation had going for it was some of the odd PSN titles. Granted, they were still equally overpriced, but they had a lot more support over there. I want to see those quirky games on the Xbox, and for reasonable prices this generation.
