Played the weekly mission on Mars with 2 other random folks and score two strange coins and one of them other forms of currency. Mote? Something like that. It's weird how yesterday I ran that entire fucking mission alone and this time out I had some help. I guess it's a random thing?

Anyways, I finally got 13 strange coins and went over to Xur to buy the creepy symbiotic helmet. That propelled me to over 1,000 points in the defense game. I was in the low 800's. Good thing I caught Zur before he left.

Finished the Vault of Glass. Pretty damn cool.

Got a nice exotic fusion rifle and a pretty sweet sniper rifle that makes enemies explode from headshots.

I was able to score the Queen's Emblem and the Queen's wardrobe (or whatever), so now I kick ass in her colors.

I have that one too...a fire version. The Vanguard vendor sells a void version.

I think you would enjoy the raid quite a bit. It's really like nothing else in the game and emphasizes teamwork like you wouldn't believe. It is literally impossible for 1 guy to win it for you (but it is possible for 1 guy to lose it for you). If the people don't communicate in the raid, they will fail 1000 times out of a 1000. I've never played a game that required that much coordination. Nothing even comes close. Not even Battlefield.

And I mean the actual raid, not the strikes. HUGE difference.

Revisiting this because you were 100% correct. The raid is so different, it might as well be an entirely different game.

And yeah, the coordination required to finish that thing was nuts. We had some guys on my squad who had done it before and who were directing traffic, and half the time, I wasn't even sure what was going on. I mostly just played to my strengths and played supporting roles while the higher level guys did the running and purifying.

And the loot was pretty good. Got these two guns along with some other ascendent mats:

I had a real turn-around with the game this weekend and am enjoying it quite a bit. It came with the understanding that the real content of the game is the daily and weekly heroic missions, the bounties, temporarily the queen's missions, and the raid. Everything else is pointless grinding that isn't a good use of your time with the stingy drops and slow XP.

I power leveled my Titan by stacking story missions and bounties in strategic ways, and since I already had an exotic chest for him, I was immediately able to do the queen's missions when I hit 20 and got her two legendary pieces. It allowed me to level him from 11 to 25 in an evening and a morning. Now I have a second character to do the daily and weekly missions and to farm strange coins.

Edit: Note that you can consolidate Strange Coins and Motes of Light from multiple characters, so it makes sense to have as many farm-ready characters as possible.

I had a feeling you'd have a more positive experience if you played the raid.

On my first try nobody had played it before, so were much less successful. I think it took us 4 hours and we couldn't even get past the 2nd "checkpoint".

I had better luck my 2nd and 3rd tries, but I still haven't been able to play with a group long enough to finish it.

They're doing a major update tomorrow morning:

http://www.bungie.net/en/News/News?aid=12255

NOTE: The following update will be applied at approximately 7AM Pacific on Tuesday, October 7th. The maintenance window for this work will interrupt Destiny services for several hours. You will be unable to play the game during that time.

Summary
Most of the changes included in this update will improve the technology that enables players to connect to Destiny. The player experience will remain unchanged, aside from the stability for some users who have encountered issues connecting to servers.

Client fixes
Added more data logging for matchmaking systems
Improved connectivity failure handling to reduce beaver (Kick To Orbit events) KTOs
Improved logging of player disconnections
Internal tools fixes to speed up our release process
Fixes to the roster system to allow us to tune the frequency of roster updates on Xbox One
Fixed a bug that allowed users to quick scope on some weapons

Server Fixes
Security fixes
Server performance improvements
Fixes to reduce the frequency of some KTOs
Better logging to help diagnose connectivity problems
Fixes to some Centipede errors that were exclusive to specific player characters

Isn't the Iron Banner event starting tomorrow as well? Replacing the Queen's Event.

Level 26 is required for the raid and I have been stuck at level 22 for so long I may just stop playing. I've gotten a decent amount of engrams over the course of the past week or so but everything stays "rare" and always has less light than i currently have equipped. If level 26 is where the fun begins, the game is broken between levels 20 and 26.

I also have 9 motes of light and 7 strange coins..not enough to buy shit.

If you are looking for Legendary armour, the easiest possible way at your level is to complete Vanguard bounties and earn Vanguard marks. You can buy fairly decent equipment at Rank 2 and decent weapons at Rank 3.

and if you play a lot of Crucible as well tie yourself to a faction and you can level up that faction rank by doing Crucible and Vanguard bounties

Thanks, I will give it a shot but even once I have rank 2 or so, don't I still need fancier currency than glimmer to purchase? Those seem hard to come by.

musick, I play crucible but I can't speak to my efficiency. Killing 20 guardians with headshots or with a sniper rifle is pretty much a non-starter, haha. Some of the others are a bit easier but take a lot of time.

MoviePage 10-06-14 05:58 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

The only thing you need to buy gear from the Vanguard vendor is Vanguard marks, which you'll earn along the way.

musick 10-06-14 05:59 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

I think it is only glimmer and vanguard/crucible marks you need

there are some easier crucible bounties like play x number of a certain type of match, capture x # of capture areas in Control, get x number of assists, etc

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Leveling up the cryptarch also occasionally rewards you with legendaries. Even if all I ever get is blue engrams as drops, they can potentially reward me with legendaries after I turn in enough of them.

I certainly have had no problem acquiring legendaries. Maybe I just play this game entirely too much.

This is exactly what I did. I got to level 3 of the New Monarchy pretty fast. Now that I'm all decked in legendary/exotic armor I'm starting to work on my Vangard/Crucible ranks. I'll have plenty of Vangard marks to buy weapons when I finally hit level 3. I'm already up to 160 and I'm only half way to level 1.

19K 10-06-14 09:20 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

You stop earning Vanguard and Crucible marks when you reach 200 so you're only able to buy one weapon at a time.

sven 10-06-14 09:32 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Well then I'll be ready to buy one and I'll have good head start on the next one.
