I just used a 230 blue to upgrade my Legendary "apple something" pulse rifle from 200 to 220.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Excerpt from this article:
Hope that helps a little, I'm sure someone else could probably expound on this in more detail.
Don’t worry about infusing at first.
You can now upgrade legendary and exotic gear with the “infuse” system, which lets you sacrifice a similar piece of gear with a higher number and raise the stat on the gear you’re upgrading. Don’t worry about infusing, at least at first. If you get a legendary item that you really like, hang on to it and plan to infuse it later. For now, though, just equip the gear with the highest number and keep playing. You’ll get so many drops as you go that it’s not worth infusing anything for a while. And when it is time to infuse…
Infuse using significantly more powerful weapons.
When you infuse a gun with a higher-level gun, the less powerful weapon will get 80% of the difference between the two. So, if you infuse a 180 attack weapon with a 200 attack weapon, the 180 gun will get 80% of the difference and become a 196. Because of that, it’s a good idea to wait to infuse a gun until you’ve got something that’s substantially higher in power. You’ll get a lot more out of each infusion.
You can infuse legendary gear with blue gear.
This is crucial: You can infuse with blue gear. That means that the trash blue guns that you’re getting will have a purpose—they’ll help make your legendaries and exotics better. You can always find a use for whatever random blue guns drop in the wild, so don’t just junk them because they’re blue.

OK, yeah, that makes a little more sense now, thanks.
I guess I won't worry about doing it for now then. I only have a couple blue weapons anyways and haven't seen anything purple drop yet.

Bought the taken king edition of the game for my son. All of the codes that came with it seemed to download no problem but when I went to test the game I got an error that there was something corrupt in the expansion packs. So I went and deleted the files associated with the expansion but now it wot allow me to re enter the codes as they've already been used. Any help on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

if Sony I would assume once you input the code even if you delete the file it will still recognize that you redeemed the code and should be able to re-download/install without issue via your library/download history
cannot speak for MS

Yeah, both Sony and MS will let you re-download anything you've already downloaded before, even if it was a partial download. Just go to download history (or a similar menu item) in either the system menu, or the store menu, and everything you've downloaded should be there, available for a re-download.

Any reason on fighting Taken Champions? I pretty much done all the quests on killing champions around the maps. Fought with a bunch of guardians on taken down a champion a few times but never found any drops. I still missed on fighting the prowling wolves for the treasure chest.

I haven't matched much, but from what I've been listening to, this raid sounds like a proctology exam with no lube. Once people figure out the mechanics, then maybe it'll be managable. But it seems like this one needs A LOT more coordination and teamwork than the other raids.
BTW, I'm only 270ish on my highest character, so no running for me...yet.

I haven't gotten to any multiplayer with TTK yet - just single-player story and bounties, trying to get my level and light up before I can play with others. Keep in mind, I've only been able to put in about 2 hours so far with TTK.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
For those people that are concerned about infusing gear and earning legendary marks to do so... don't bother with it right now. I don't know if its been mentioned on here, but there was a post on reddit with the BEST advice I've seen as far as new gear and light levels is concerned. Ill try my best to explain it...
Every time you get an engram to decode, make sure you equip any/all gear in your inventory that gives you your highest light level possible (it doesnt matter if you never use the stuff while playing, just make sure its equipped when you visit the crytptarch). The cryptarch decodes engrams into light levels that are almost always at or above the gear you currently have equipped. If you have a bunch of items to decode, do them slowly, one at a time, and check the light level on every piece after you decode it. If it turns out to be higher than what you currently have equipped, equip the new piece to raise your light level before decoding the next item. That way every single item you decode is getting the best chance possible for higher levels.
As far as infusing, unless there's a legendary item that you absolutely plan on keeping forever, scrap it. It sounds crazy, but infusing lower level legendary gear this early on is a waste. Unless its at 280 or higher, chances are it'll be obsolete very quickly. You need gear with higher light levels to infuse anything anyway, and as mentioned above the higher level stuff (even if it's only blue) is more useful when you visit the cryptarch. Not to mention a blue gun with a light level of 260 is better than a purple gun at 230 when youre just starting out. You'll earn more legendary marks than you'll know what do with just by breaking down all that average legendary gear that you get along the way. If you follow this method, you'll constantly be going higher and higher with your light as you decode items.
I only started following this advice TODAY, and went from 220 light to 270, and went from 0 legendary marks at the start of the day to 49 currently. And I didnt even have to suffer through one single crucible match. I've strictly just been working on the quests and breaking down miscellaneous legendaries that ive earned (FYI, once you get further into the story mode, there are quests that reward you with legendary marks also).
