Re: Bungie - Destiny
If that 'new' game is mashing up genres/game types and trying something different and not just pumping out a yearly sequel, sure. All in. However you can keep your Tour of WolfenDutyfield 19 and your Madden (insert year here) offerings.
Also it's a silly complaint on this forum as most the people here do love the smaller games, quirky games, or unique games that come out. Destiny is just another game here. It will stand next to Resogun, Pikmin and Peggle to name a few. This forum's users (well 98% of us) aren't the problem.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
We may have a clue as to where we'll be going with the Beta come the 17th....
Destiny Beta Will Probably Include Playable Venus and Mars Locations
Destiny’s beta is drawing near, and Bungie has been dropping a few hints on the content we’ll be able to enjoy starting on July 17th. In the latest blog update they posted two screenshots that included “carefully hidden” hints.
Those screenshots are aptly named “beta screenshot” in their file names, and Bungie confirmed on Twitter that they’re locations we’ll be able to visit in the beta.
What they didn’t explicitly tell us is which locations those screenshots actually represent. Observation of older concept artwork reveals that detail. The first screenshots is set on Mars, probably in the location named Buried City, infested by the Cabal. The second location should be set on Venus, around the Academy on the Devastated Coast.
The blog post itself mentions that “most of the big rocks are in place,” and “big rocks” can easily be interpreted as “planets,” meaning that most of the planets are indeed playable.

There are a couple of shots of both locations on the Dual Shockers link that are pretty impressive.

Granted, Borderlands didn't have to balance PVP multiplayer.

DESTINY BETA DATES ANNOUNCED, COLLECTOR'S EDITIONS REVEALED AND UNBOXED -- IGN FIRST
Bungie has announced the specific beta timing for its upcoming "shared-world shooter" Destiny. On July 17, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 players can begin playing the beta, which picks up from the beginning of the game and includes a handful of Story missions, a Strike mission, and a selection of PvP Crucible maps. The beta will then go offline for maintenance on Monday, July 21, and return on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on Wednesday, July 23. The beta ends on Sunday, July 27.
Our first piece of Destiny IGN First content is an unboxing of the just-announced Collector's Editions of the game. First, the Ghost Edition, which includes:
-A steelbook disc case and disc copy of the game
-A field manual with "handwritten" notes
-An "antique" star chart
-A Guardian folio
-4 postcards from the Golden Age (i.e. Earth before the Darkness decimated it)
-The Destiny Expansion Pass ($34.99 value; good for Expansion I and Expansion II)
-Collector's Edition Digital Content (an in-game Ghost skin, player emblem, and ship skin)
-And the centerpiece: a life-size replica of the Ghost robot, complete with lights and Peter Dinklage dialogue samples.
\\
The Ghost Edition will cost $149.99 and Bungie says it will truly be a limited production run and availability. Amazon has PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and 360 versions right now.
Meanwhile, the $99.99 Limited Edition includes everything in the CE except the illuminated, talking Ghost replica. It's also up on Amazon in PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and 360 flavors.
Finally, there's also an $89.99 Digital Guardian Edition for those looking to skip the disc version of the game. It includes a digital download of the game, early access to Vanguard armory and player emblem pre-order bonuses, a reservation for upcoming Destiny expansions "The Dark Below" and "House of Wolves" (each of which includes new Story missions, cooperative and competitive multiplayer arenas, and a "wealth" of new weapons, armor, and gear), and the aforementioned Collector's Edition Digital Content. You can also grab it Amazon.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Quality aside, are people really only interested in playing games they've already played before? Because while Destiny is nice and all, it's just the same stuff, regurgitated, and served up with a fresh coat of paint. Devs don't seem to want to take a gamble on new ideas for big-budget games anymore. Guess I can't blame them with all that money at steak, but it's still kind of a bummer how all triple-A games now are the same exact games we've all been playing for more than 10 years now.

I'm tempted on either of the new sets but I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing one of the limited signed lithographs off the site. I'm holding out to see if they offer anymore.
The Limited at $99 seems a bit high since you're just getting a few skins, Star Chart, Arms Field Guide, Expansion Pass and some post cards. I've got my PO thru Best Buy getting the $10 Cert and so far they don't have anything on the two new sets.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Well either the Ghost version for the PS4 never really went up for preorder or already sold out, because it's not available anymore. All of the other versions are available though for $150.
I went ahead and did an order for the $99 version. Figured I was already going to get the season pass anyways, so an extra $15 - $20 for everything else isn't bad.

The expansion pass is $34.99.
That totals out to $94.98. Basically, $5 more gets you the exclusive packaging, in-game material, and bonus physical material. Sounds like a steal especially in comparison to Activision's "Hardened Editions" for Call of Duty which usually cost more than the game and season pass combined.
You actually walk away saving $5 if you opt to go for the digital edition at $89.
I'm waiting to see if Best Buy offers the digital edition for pre-order tomorrow. If not, I'll use my GCU to pre-order the Limited Edition instead (and cancel my already existing pre-order).

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Am I reading this right, the digital edition has all of the in-game content of the physical edition, plus additional content exclusive to the digital edition? For $10 less than the CE?

Re: Bungie - Destiny
That's the only piece mentioned that's exclusive to the digital edition (as far as we know).
GameStop's online store has already sold out of the PS4 Ghost edition after posting it only a few hours ago, they still have the remaining Ghost editions left (Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PS3). Amazon has sold out of all but the Xbox 360 Ghost edition.
I'm assuming the Limited Edition will be gone sooner rather than later for the next-gen consoles.
EDIT: Looking at the pre-ordering material now. "Early access to Vanguard Armory and Player Emblem pre-order bonus" means you get the in-game pre-order bonuses that all retailers are now offering. In-game content is the same across all three editions.

Think I might get the $99 version. Never done anything like that, but I think I'm going to like this game a lot and will want the DLC anyway.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Will Best Buy carry the $99 version? They still only have the vanilla version on the site (which I had already preordered). I will definitely switch to the $99 if they get it.
EDIT:
I found a beta code in my email. I am not sure if I used it or gave it to someone else to use. Therefore, I cannot guarantee it will work but if you want to try, please send me a PM.
