re: PS4: All the latest updates, such as...umm...uhh...hmm...

"The Dark Sorcerer" E3 trailer...full 12 minutes. This is the same one that used only 4gb ram of the 8gb and in real time on the PS4. Below it is a article from playstationgang.com on the specs. Look closely at the last sentence remark...

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/4j5xxi6cjjU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

http://playstationgang.com/the-dark-...ps4-tech-demo/

Quantic Dream has released the full 12 minute short for The Dark Sorcerer which debuted during Sony’s E3 conference. The short stars David Gant, Carl Payne, Christian Eriksen and David Gasman.

The tech demo is a technological marvel. The set is composed of about 1 million polygons, each character containing just under 1 million polygons, along with 350MB of textures and around 40 shaders. Physically Based Shaders, volumetric lights, full HDR, Color Grading, Physical Lenses and translucence to render skin are also used in the demo.

Quantic Dream’s David Cage said that the demo follows in the footsteps of The Casting and Kara with a view to rendering realistic emotions using the power of the consoles.

Quantic dream decided to introduce the element of comedy to challenge themselves because by using non-human characters for comedy, they had to adapt their technology accordingly.

According to Cage, “The graphic quality obtained with relatively little effort was a spectacular improvement on PS3.”

“We obviously expected this, going from the tech specs, but it’s one thing comparing the number of polygons per second, and it’s quite another seeing it on the screen.”

“On PS4 everything looks great because the machine offers power that was totally inaccessible up until now. We can feel that we are closing in little by little on the kind of graphic quality we find in CG films.”

“The PS4 engine used for The Dark Sorcerer is only in its first iteration and most of the features scheduled for the final version of the engine haven’t yet been implemented. This demo is only a first test that is well below the visual quality we hope to achieve in our next game.”

re: PS4: All the latest updates, such as...umm...uhh...hmm...

So in week two, PS Plus has more than half way paid for itself.

Yesterday at Gamestop, I traded in Battlefield 3 and Deus Ex (both free) along with GTA IV (replaced by free Saints Row 3) for $24. I also paid off my PS4 with credit and learned that Gamestop doesn't charge tax on items you buy with credit...or at least they don't here.

Also, I'm fully obsessed with Saints Row 3. It's like GTA without all the annoying shit and with awesome shooting and with just a touch of Burnout in the driving mechanics. I'm fully loving that game.

Yeah, I hate GTA for all the bullshit mechanics but can't wait to finally give Saints Row a spin.

bah! No new information at all!

Still don't know what the hell that port is on the controller next to the headset port?

A special headset port like on the One's controller?

I thought that port is the micro-USB to recharge the controller. Anyway more here on some stuff...old and maybe new.

Nope, the USB port is on the "front" of the controller, below the light bar.

Beyond the driving and shooting mechanics, which are both superior, the game goes in a completely different direction from GTA in a bunch of other ways as well (which you may or may not like). The storytelling is pure goofy action movie which facilitates all kinds of crazy missions and there's very little gatekeeping. You have access to all of the cars and the full city from the first minute and you can customize your character and cars quite a bit.

Basically, the game seems to appreciate that most people don't pop in these kinds of games for overly-serious storytelling but rather just to mess about. It's why I haven't finished a GTA since Vice City, which is still the pinnacle of that series IMO.

Anyway, hate to hijack the thread with Saints Row, but it alone has made PS Plus a great value. Besides, there really isn't much to see here. I'd bet on some software announcements at Gamescom in August and more at Tokyo in September. Otherwise, Sony has been pretty straightforward and transparent with nothing even approaching the drama at MS, which makes for a quiet thread.

The announcement for the DS4 lists micro-USB, minijack and something else called an "extension port". My guess is that's what that is, and I'd go a step further to guess that it's in case they want to add peripherals later.

So far the only thing I've seen is ..."Extension Port"?

It kinda reminds me of the PSP headset port.

Like you, I'm discovering the Saints Row franchise thanks to Plus. However, I started with Saints Row 2, as I got that free last year but hadn't played it yet.

But I'm not having the same kind of reaction that you are. From what I have read, Saints 2 is considered the better of the 2 games, due to the third game taking everything over the top. In other words, the things you're liking so much about 3 just aren't there.

2 feels just like GTA to me, all the way down to the driving and shooting (perhaps that was changed too?). I do like the variety available, which was my biggest complaint about GTA IV, there just wasn't enough to do, and the extras just weren't that fun (Bowling and darts, really?)

But that's how GTA used to be. San Andreas had a LOT of things to do (even more with the hot coffee mod, heh). Hell, Saints Row 2 has a sex minigame, just missing the visuals.

But overall, I'm having a lot of trouble playing for more than hour or two before I lose interest. Maybe I've been spoiled by the awesome story and mayhem of Red Dead Redemption. Maybe I was a little awed by the attention to detail of the L.A. in L.A. Noire. Maybe I just need to find the dildo bat and crack some skulls.

GTA IV was certainly flawed, but I don't think it was due to the story, as much as it was that they left out so much of what made the older games so fun.

re: PS4: All the latest updates, such as...umm...uhh...hmm...

I haven't played Saints Row 2, so I can't really compare, but everything about 3 is simply absurd, and I find the driving to be much more arcadey and the shooting to be better than most third person games. It still looks like GTA, but not anywhere near as grounded in all of the seriousness. I'm currently in an all black super hero costume dual weilding pistols with explosive bullets and taking down choppers on foot, my second weapon was a drone strike, and I ran around for several hours completely nude (with hilariously pixelated parts). The first airplane they game me was an A-10, and I managed to park a tank in my garage at level 15 or so. One of the first 10-12 story missions gives you a Hind attack chopper.

Red Dead was a beautiful game that I appreciate for its artistic merits...but also never finished. It also had shooting that couldn't live up to the premise.

Anyway, controller port...

It may look like the one from the PSP, but I expect it to be functionally more like the one at the bottom of the Wii remote. They could add a keyboard, for instance, or maybe a light gun. They may have things in mind already, or it may just be there for future options.

Shuhei Yoshida also confirmed that if you tape over the light bar, a giant fist will fly from your TV and punch you in the face. It will then strip the tape off.

I thought the light bar was essentially under the controller where you couldn't see it while playing.

Kinda silly to use battery life on a light that does nothing without the camera.

It's on the top side of the controller. The glow will definitely be noticeable if you're playing in a darkened room.

I guess it depends on how you hold it. I can't imagine it being too bad when it's in my lap. It's almost pointed down:
