It'd be nice if they let you pop in your PS3 discs for a disc check to tie the game to your account for Gaikai at no charge. Probably won't happen though.

Well there's nothing unique about the game disc, so you could just lend the game out to others so they get it too, which wouldn't work well for Sony. Unless they require the game disc in the drive to verify ownership before streaming it.

Yeah, but we're talking about generation old games that they're giving away for free on PS+ anyway. They could still peddle SuperHD remakes with new features.

There are registration abilities that Sony bds have as well as some Vita games for cross platform purposes. They can only be used once.

I don't see how Sony can compete with Xbox...they're not even offering a Day One Edition of the console. Lame...

I've always been a Playstation supporter (never had any interest in MS's XBox offerings) so I am happy to see them winning points with this announcement .... that said I still don't see me spending $399 at launch (unless I decide to sell off the PS3 closer to launch)

Sorry if I missed it but what are the plans with PSN for PS4? Is the service still free or did it go to some paid sub like MS? Is basic online gaming free and PS+ still their premium offering? Any additional costs for basic multiplayer gaming?

You should get PS+, it's really a great deal. I don't play too much in my PS3 and I have PS+ covered for 2 years or so. And there are sales from time to time too. I think there's one right now.

It's so nice to see the PSOne and PS3 era Sony back in the spotlight. That nonsense of you'll get a second job to pay for a PS3 bullshit set them off on a bad note this generation and they just continued to stumble with each step. I loved their exclusive games but still got most of my gaming needs fulfilled by MS. Tonight I wish I could personally thank the team that put the PS4 together. They get it again and aren't being greedy fucks this time around. I'm going to give MS some time to come to their senses and keep my XBOX One preorder for the time being but I also ordered a PS4 with extreme confidence.

I think we'll still see a PS4/Vita bundle; but if they would have announced that tonight, it would have taken away from the $399 price tag.
