Make the base system $400, and another bundle with accessories. As long as the $400 system isn't gimped, and only lacks accessories you can buy elsewhere, it'll sell like gangbusters.

Maybe, but we've heard rumors of doing something with used games to suit the publishers for a year now, and the Xbox One confirmed it. I just can't imagine that what has always seemed to be a publisher driven initiative will only happen on one of the consoles. But who knows, I guess we'll find out soon.
And I assume Nintendo wasn't worth roping in, since no one wants to make the major titles for the Wii U anyway.
EDIT: And now thinking about it, maybe that's why EA wasn't as committed as they initially claimed, and it wasn't just that whole Origin rumor after all? Or that integrating Origin was part of the DRM strategy, and since MS/Sony already had online systems for it to work, Nintendo lacking that option resulted in them dropping Wii U stuff altogether.

Would they be bailing on Nintendo if the Wii U was selling? I don't think that DRM trumps $.

I'm excited to see what they have to offer, and I absolutely hated their reveal conference. However, their reveal wasn't nearly as bad as Microsoft's. This should be interesting.
