Re: When will you get the new Xbox?

Yeah, they did a good job with the first Xbox, and then the mess with the 360 (although I've never had an issue, and I've had like 5 Xboxes because of upgrades), so I'm sure they are going to do a good job with the new console.

And of course, if one in one million consoles (1/1,000,000) fails, people will start screaming that it's the RROD again!!!!

I'm sure that Microsoft is looking to improve the next console, but I don't think it will disappear completely. The main reason these modern consoles RROD is because of the massive amount of heat they produce, and a massive amount of heat in a small little box is just asking for trouble. There's a reason that PC towers are so big, and that reason is because it allows them to better dissipate the heat without overheating. Nobody wants a console the size of a PC tower though, so overheating is always going to be a problem with modern consoles.

Re: When will you get the new Xbox?

Oh, your Xbox RROD?

Oh, did you buy the extended warranty through Microsoft?

No?

Your fucking loss.

Thankfully my extended warranty ended shortly before Microsoft released the Slim model. God bless GameStop's amazing and (extremely) brief trade-in sale. I ended up trading in my first-generation Elite for a Slim for $0.00.

Day one if I can find it. I still have my launch 360, works fine. Mainly play the slim though.

That's an odd way to look at it; blame people for not paying even more money on a warranty, opposed to Microsoft for making shoddy hardware.

Re: When will you get the new Xbox?

They fixed them all and shipped for free and the factory warranty was 3 years. No need for an extended warranty.

That's also how they avoided the "lemon" label(and to a minor degree I think core gamers having more than one console to game on, while out for repairs helped). They stood behind their product. Sure every one of my RROD sucked balls, but it's hard to fault them by doing right by their customers.

I know some will never get over it but I'll take 4 free RROD repairs over 1 YLOD $130 repair on a PS3 any day of the week.

Re: When will you get the new Xbox?

Do people not realize that the RROD problem was virtually eliminated by the time the Slim 360 consoles were introduced? That's plenty of evidence for me that MS learned their lesson.

It just seems like many people assume it's still a major issue in the newer models, when it clearly isn't. I'm just wondering if those people are the ones who gave up years ago and haven't looked back since (until this question came up, anyway).

Re: When will you get the new Xbox?

I'll do what I always do: buy new titles (like limited editions) I know I'll want to play eventually and hold off buying the console itself while I work through most of my existing backlog. The end of a console's life cycle usually has a few of its best releases, anyway.

Of course, all of that could fly out the window immediately if Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls VI or Bioware releases Dragon Age III or Mass Effect 4. (Despite people's complaints about the previous entries in Bioware's respective series, I'm still a huge fan.) The unlikely event of Star Wars: The Force Unleased III would also do it. (Yeah, I really liked SW:TFU II.)

Re: When will you get the new Xbox?

Another thing I was thinking, it's that Microsoft has been a disruptive force in the videogame industry. Xbox Live changed everything of course, but there are more things they have made.

I'm sure they will make the release really desirable for most people. COD people? Of course. But reading the posts here, everyone saying that they will wait, unless they release X game, I'm sure Microsoft knows that, so I'm guessing they will have a really strong list of games for release date.

Why would you buy them new at retail price when you don't even have the console to play them? They would be cheaper and used if you just bought them when you got around to buying the console. I can only assume that you are a collector and have a large library of games.

Yeah, that seems odd to me as well.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to actual limited editions that would probably not be available later (at least cheaply)

I won't be buying the next XBox. The RROD thing really made me bitter. Literally everyone I know that had a 360 experienced the RROD. Every single one. I ended up buying two XBox's as a result.

I've also moved onto PC gaming. Just a substantially better experience overall. Better graphics, better games, better online.

The only thing that might change my mind is Rockstar, who are slow to get their games on PC historically. I need to play every GTA game at launch. Fortunately the next one is just coming to 360.

I do hope it comes out soon though. This dated console hardware has been holding back gaming for too long. The games are getting really stale.

EDIT: Also, Wi-Fi. Pissed me off you had to buy a $150 WI-FI adapter for the console. As far as I know it still isn't built in?

I may change my mind about buying the system a year from release if Fallout 4 is a launch title.

Wii U will probably be the last console I buy.

I'm just burned out. It's the same crap year after year with no innovation.

It was never $150.

It's been built-in for years now.

msrp on that was $100 initially, it's down around $60 now - and yes, has been built in for at least a couple years now.
