re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Wind Waker was critically well reviewed and despite only selling about 66% of Ocarina of Time was fairly popular (4.6m units sold, just shy of A Link to the Past's original release).

I agree it isn't a great game, but some people are excited for it, so I see no reason to question it. I'm also quite surprised to see the anticipation for it.

So by the time Christmas rolls around, they should have that thing on sale for $250 or so. Maybe even with a game or two packed in.

Nintendo is being pretty aggressive. $50 drop plus free Zelda.

It's going to be hard to resist Zelda 2 weeks early....maybe ill buy it digitally and get the physical copy if it ever goes on sale. Can't really say Nintendo isn't trying now.

Nintendo also announced the Nintendo 2D as well.

I wish the drop were a little steeper -- I'm planning on getting one or two of my relatives Wii Us as Christmas gifts! -- but it's definitely nice to see.

I would think another $50 on savings by Christmas. Gift card or something like that.

I really want that GamePad. Maybe buy the new Wii U and sell the console with my old GamePad....

That's how I remember it too. It didn't do much for me and felt like a chore to finish. I don't think making it look prettier will help.

Now if they gave us a proper HD version of Twilight Princess - I could get excited about that.

I have to assume Twilight Princess will at some point be re-released. I never finished it. The motion controls were horrible. Should have bought the Cube version.

Kind of surprised Nintendo is making such a minimal move.

Exactly what I'm looking for to possibly buy the system. Because I loved Wind Waker back in the day, but to me it adds no real value to the bundle since I already played and still own my Gamecube and it as well. If someone were to spring a $250 sale that included Pikmin 3 and the W101 I do't know how I could resist coming back to Nintendo since I opted out the last generation of Wii and stuck with my 360 only.

I hate motion controls and twilight princess was the only wii game I actually beat. It's actually one of the few games I've played all the way through.

Are these relatives who only ever gave you fruit cakes so you're going to punish them with something equally useless?

Funny to see the contrast. I think Nintendo did exactly what people predicted or anticipated for the most part. $50 price drop + game.

Yeah it was expected, but I dunno, I thought they'd actually try.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

It was what I predicted after E3. Either $250 or $300 with game. I'd prefer they'd keep Zelda and throw down on $250 alone, but it's not like I'd still buy it. That's my absolute ceiling still

Same reason I didn't finish it, and barely finished Skyward Sword. If the GC version was 16:9 I would have tracked it down.

Just because it was predicted doesn't mean it wasn't minimal. $300 is still a lot for really old technology. I love Nintendo and have all their other consoles, but this move is nowhere near enough.

I don't know, I guess minimal to me would have just been the $50 price drop or just the game added. I just didn't think of it as either minimal or aggressive, but somewhere in between.

Well, depending on how you look at it, no game has been added.

The deluxe package already came with Nintendo Land. The Zelda bundle continues to come with one game. Wind Waker is a newer release (well, a new remake, anyway), so there's some additional value there, but the deluxe came with one game before and will come with one game next month too. It's not the same as bundling a game with a console that had never had a pack-in before.

EDIT - with the news that the Zelda bundle is Gamestop-exclusive, the only thing that's changed for every other retailer is the price.

"The Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle is coming in October and will be available exclusively through GameStop."

Just, you know, as a FYI.
