Ok guys, it has been a few weeks since launch. Has anyone's feelings changed about this system? Good or bad

I'm really digging the second screen. I still haven't gotten it working with the TiVo, but it's nice to be able to play Mario not tied to the TV on occasion.

The OS, loading screens and overall slowness of the system on day one is a joke. I doubt they'll change up the interface much(like MS) over its lifespan(so it is what it is), but Nintendo dropped the ball on that one.

I bought the Hori screen protector for my 3DS and then my 3DSXL and both times I tried to put them on I got frustrated with it and ripped it up and tossed it in the garbage. It likely doesn't help that I demand it to be PERFECT, with not even a speck of dust or anything under the screen and certainly not a single air bubble, no matter how tiny. I've given up on them and I'm not even going to attempt it with my gamepad. I just know it'll be wasted money yet again.

I've never had luck with this sort of thing. I tried to put one on my wife's original Nook I bought her a couple years ago when we were just dating and the same thing happened with that.

I finally got mine in the mail yesterday. I work at a sign shop and deal with vinyl all day every day (very similar to a screen protector), and I still managed to fuck it up. The Hori one I got came with 2 stylii and the screen protector. It was labeled poorly with no directions. I peeled the wrong side first. So I basically layed down the smooth side to the screen and proceeded to peel the second side (which is obviously sticky). Needless to say it got plenty of specs on it, fingerprints and whatnot. I was devastated.

Anyway, helpful hint for anyone with trouble putting them on or fixing something like my fuck up. Make sure your hands are clean and run the sticky side under cold water. Use your fingers to rub off any dirt, specs, fingerprints, etc. Shake it off (doesn't have to be dry to install), and reapply. It's actually easier to rub out air bubbles putting it on wet.

In the end, it looks fabulous and you'd be hard pressed to tell that I fucked it up.

For $10, there is no reason why they shouldn't give you two just for these occasions.

I like it a lot still, I just want some original titles to start coming out.

That sounds a lot different than the stand alone screen protector I got from Hori for $7. The one I put on was clearly labeled and it had three tabs on it, numbered in order of use. You pulled the tab on the first one, which was like a little stick patch. That let you put it down on the screen and line it up. Once lined up, you pressed down so the little patch of sticky could hold it in place. You then pulled tab two, which pulled the backing off and let it stick to the screen. You then used the included little cardboard squeegee to push out all bubbles before pulling tab 3 and that pulled off the cover film that protected the actual shield while you squeegee'd it. No bubbles, good alignment, easy installation.

It is the same for the 3DS stand alone screen protector set from Hori.

Yeah, I've read that. This is the one I got*. All one big piece, so if anyone is nervous about putting it on, then avoid this one.

*I ordered the stand alone and it got canceled and never seems to be in stock.

Same here.

ZombiU is a hell of a lot of fun, but what I'm most happy with (much to my surprise) is the ability to play COD on the small screen while the wife watches tv. I thought this feature would be mostly a novelty to me, but I spend most of my time playing directly on the small screen rather than the tv, even when I'm by myself.

So how do you turn off MiiVerse integration in Mario? I'm sick of that shit popping up. I read there is a way to do it, but I can't seem to figure it out poking around menus.

I was freakin' shocked when I walked into my local Best Buy today. I know these are in stock pretty much everywhere, but I've never seen this many at one time. Holy crap...

(These ARE actual consoles, NOT empty boxes. Yes, I checked.)

To answer my own question it's right on the Mario pause menu. Bottom right corner.

I was in a Toys R Us (trying unsuccessfully to find Scribblenauts for the 3DS) and although the store was a madhouse crowd-wise, it was well stocked in both white and black WiiU systems.

The Rayman Legends demo was WAY better than I expected. The Castle Rock level was the high point and I only hope there are more levels like that in the game.

I'm not sure what they're going to be able to do at this point. The slow OS is what it is. It's not like the WiiOS is a taxing design to begin with.

So I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, what's everyone think of the new smooth edge discs? Such a simple thing most won't notice but I love it.

From the Wii U Facebook page...

And some important information about it...

http://www.polygon.com/2012/12/19/37...-functionality

Nintendo's TVii app launches in the U.S. and Canada on Thursday, Nintendo announced this morning. But the app won't initially include everything originally promised.

Thursday's software update will not come with the ability to program or access content stored on a DVR, according to the story. Nintendo has yet to cut a deal with the likes of Comcast and DirecTV to allow that.

"After Dec. 20, you'll never look at your TV the same way again," said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. "Wii U owners have already experienced the transformative effect that the GamePad has on game play and social interaction. Nintendo TVii shows how the integrated second screen of the GamePad can also transform and enhance the TV viewing experience. Welcome to the new world of TVii."

The app, already delayed from the launch, also won't include NetFlix or TiVo support. Those are both coming next year.

The free television service combines an online guide to TV, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Amazon Instant Video programming with the ability to search Wikipedia and IMdb and share comments through social networks. The app was made in conjunction with i.TV.

The Wii U Gamepad already functions as a universal remote.

So it basically has guide data and can change channels?

Fucking hell Nintendo.

"TVii will do all these amazing things! After we see if it's possible from all the service providers. Maybe. Slowly."

Toys R Us had a buy 2, 49.99 and up, and save 25.00 so I bought Epic Mickey 2 for my son and got myself ZombiU.

Then I come home and discover there is a sound issue with Epic Mickey 2 that puts the dialog during cutscenes out of the rear channel and not the center. So now my 3 year old can't hear any of the dialog. :/ Really hoping there is a patch in the works but I'm not holding my breath.

Go to target for the b2g1 free on wii u games. Buy 3 $59.99 games and return the one you don't want. It'll be cheaper than TRU.

No dice for me. I don't have a TVii icon, and the console's telling me my firmware is up to date. Maybe it's a gradual rollout or something? Beats me.

I'm clear on what TVii doesn't do. My question is, what exactly DOES it do at this point?

There's a list of some of the features here: http://wiiudaily.com/2012/12/reggie-...nintendo-tvii/

I'm still fuzzy on the appeal, but I'll give it a whirl as soon as I figure out how to access it.

Edit -- Nevermind. I thought it was an app on the same level as Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, etc. Instead, it's the little red monitor beneath all the apps.

I set up TVii. Turns out it's useless if you don't have cable. This device already has Hulu and Netflix apps that I can access without going through the extra step of going through the TVii.

It seems amazing to me, but I have Charter and all of that. The usefulness is clear just by testing it out on sports alone.

I tried TVii out a bit but since we have the most minimal TV package and I don't watch any shows on TV other than Tosh.0 and The Walking Dead....it isn't something I would really use.

Here's a write-up of what TVii can do for those of us who don't have cable: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/...-nintendo-tvii

I can see the value for sports, but I hate sports. Also, the more Nintendo makes the game pad useful, the more annoying it is that they used the smaller capacity battery.

That was my 3rd issue with the TVii feature. I would tell my wife about the things it could do since she watches a bit more TV than I do but I know that would mean the Gamepad would be damn near out of juice every single time I would go to play a game. She's does it to me with our laptop 3-4 times a week.
