Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
There were some pretty outstanding deals on pro controllers before the holidays ($28 at K-Mart; $37-$39 at Target). The best one I know of at the moment is $37.49 at Game Deal Daily (which, despite the name, has had this going for a while).
The pro controller is absolutely worth it. That sucker's battery life lasts for something like 80 hours on a single charge. No kidding. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Rather than wait for a deal to pop up again, I went ahead and used a couple of giftcards and picked up the pro controller from Best Buy. It is a must if you plan on playing Mario Kart as I hated using the Wii remote on the previous console.

These are the ones where you may wind up paying a premium or have to do some extra legwork to track down at retail:
New Super Luigi U (always intended to be limited, though) Pikmin 3 Lego City Undercover Wii Party U Game and Wario Wii Sports Club I'd expect NES Remix Pack to be added to that list pretty soon. |

Saw all of the bolded at a Wal-Mart I stopped at today. I may check out one of the stores that are a little closer by and see if they have any of these as this is a store that is outside my normal shopping area. I just happened to be going through today and had to run in for something and remembered to look for these. I also forgot to bring some of the giftcards I got from MCR to knock down the cost. I picked up Wii Party U on Black Friday from Wal-Mart so I have no need for it. I may go ahead and pick up Game and Wario, Wii Sports Club and try and see if I can get them to pm Kmart on Lego City. I didn't realize Pikmin 3 was in this list. WTF, Nintendo? Is Walmart the only place that could potentially have that and Luigi? I don't want to drive all over hell and creation if there's no point. No stores online have them, either. Best Buy has them on clearance but they're in-store pickup only and none in all of Northern California have any in stock. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I picked up Game & Wario today at Walmart, and their system said they had 9 copes if Pikmin 3 in stock but the clerk said they hadn't been able to find any of them. They even looked in the back. Apparently someone was looking to buy all of them earlier in the week.
I might try Fry's tonight. They tend to have a lot of deadstock. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
For anyone still looking for Pikmin 3, check Target. They should be back in the stockroom if they have any left.

http://brickseek.com/target-inventory-checker The DPCI number is 207-30-0002 I managed to find a lone copy of Super Luigi U at TRU last night, so now I won't have to worry for a little while about missing out on anything I want. Then again, I guess this means I should get the games I want when they're first released. NES Remix and DuckTales remastered are near the top of my list. I'm guessing those are next. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I actually got pretty lucky on eBay last night. Won an auction for NSMBU w/ the Super Luigi U expansion (the game that was bundled in with the systems for awhile) AND a copy of Super Mario 3D world. All for $61.
I think after that, I'm done for a bit. So far, for the system and 7 games, I'm in at around $365. I can live with it for that price. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Ordered Game and Wario used from GoHastings this morning for $17.50 + shipping.
I was also able to get Wal-Mart to pm Kmart's price on Lego City Undercover($29.99). The cashier had me add it to my cart and make sure it was the same price in my cart before doing the pm. Not sure which title I will go after next.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Any reason NOT to get this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Super-Ma...MakeTrack=true
As opposed to paying $60 for New Super Mario Bros. and $30 for Luigi? Seems like a good deal, but didn't know if I was missing something about this. Assuming it's the combo pack from the WiiU. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
You can save a couple bucks at GameStop, depending on how tax shakes out...even more if you don't mind it being used: http://www.gamestop.com/wii-u/games/...luigi-u/112683

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Thanks for the heads up on that.
Is that the combo pack that came with the system then? 2 discs? Is there any reason to get the separate releases? Am I missing anything by not? |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
It's the bundle that came with the system. It's one disc and doesn't come with an instruction book.

Only if you're really into the cover art and green case.

Well, if that's the only difference, I'll probably just snap that up. Don't mind paying a little more for new (there were no new ones in my area at Gamestop). Was worried I was missing out on something by not getting the separate Luigi release.

Yeah, if you want a new one, eBay is pretty much the only place to go since it wasn't sold in stores. If you are in no hurry, keep checking daily listings though. Like I said in a couple posts above, I just got the same game + Super Mario 3D Land for $61 shipped. So you could probably find one bundled with another game or two to help cut down some of the cost. And I don't really mind buying used on these since they are scratch resistant discs.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Rented a shit load of games from the library today. Mario Kart 8, Zelda Wind Waker, Game & Wario, Wii Sports Club, and Pikmin 3. I'm still trying to see what is worth playing for a bit and never touching again and what needs to be added permanently to the collection. I also swung by Best Buy and grabbed a Pro Controller. I found it very odd that Amazon, Target, and Wal Mart didn't carry it. And only a few Best Buy locations around me actually had them in stock.
One game the library doesn't carry that I'm interested in is The Wonderful 101. Anyone here play it? |

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I own Galaxy 2 already, but for $9.99, I think I'll go ahead and pick up the Wii U digital version. Excellent first choice to launch the Wii eshop titles. Whatever happened to the Gamecube HD remasters? That was rumored a while back.
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
No word. As you said, that was just a rumor, though. I'm still holding out hope for a remaster of Super Mario Sunshine! I gave my copy to my kid brother when I got him a GameCube, and I've had an itch to revisit it. The copy I gave him is long gone, though...
On the other hand, the promise of Nintendo 64 games on the Wii U eShop came directly from Nintendo, and that still hasn't materialized years later, so who knows? |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
So with the Wii digital releases, can you play those now with the game pad?

For games that previously allowed you to use a classic controller everything is already in place so they don't have to do any work to make those games playable. Like Mario Kart Wii for example. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I would totally re-buy Xenoblade if they let me play on the classic controller... I don't even remember if it used the wiimote functionality at all.
