Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I thought Tropical Freeze was only really hard if you're trying to grab all the items in a level and going for full completion. If you're only trying to get to the end of the level, it's not that bad.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I ended up grabbing both at lunch. I was trading stuff in and ended up with more credit than I expected.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Just picked up a Wii U over the weekend. I'm not a huge digital game purchaser, so are there any games that are starting to get rare that I should pick up sooner rather than later?
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
These are the ones where you may wind up paying a premium or have to do some extra legwork to track down at retail:
New Super Luigi U (always intended to be limited, though) Pikmin 3 Lego City Undercover Wii Party U Game and Wario Wii Sports Club I'd expect NES Remix Pack to be added to that list pretty soon. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
It looks like there are some ebay listings with both NSMB games bundled. I guess those were the ones that came with system? Is the Luigi one worth it or should I just stick with the original?
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I had a blast with Luigi, although I'd argue that it works best after playing through New Super Mario Bros. U from start to finish, and it'd probably be even better with a palette cleanser or two in between. Played back-to-back, it's probably too same-y. Early impressions made it look like a shorter, tougher version of NSMBU with Luigi in the lead, but it's actually a very different game in a lot of ways. I think I'd go so far as to say that Luigi is my favorite of the two.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Cool, thanks. It looks like our local library actually carries all of those (except NES Remix Pack), so I'll start renting a couple at a time to see if they are worth picking up before they are hard to find.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Ok, bad question..... I just got the system. I'm assuming I have to find my system code to give it out so I can add friends?
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
If you do the couch multiplayer thing, be sure to check out Game and Wario. I've barely touched the single player, and some of the multiplayer minigames are no great shakes, but Sketch (basically Pictionary) and Islands (kind of shuffleboard-y) alone are worth the price of admission.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Is it like Smooth Moves on the Wii? We played the shit out of that game.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Game & Wario is one of the worse first party Nintendo games I've ever played and a sham of a Wario game.
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
It really shouldn't have been a Wario game, and I'm not even sure it should've been a standalone retail release, period. Sketch should've been built into the system (it was one of the earliest tech demos for the Wii U), and Islands would've fit well into Nintendo Land. Those two are still the best party minigames I've come across for the Wii U, though.
Wii Party U, meanwhile, doesn't really have any redeeming qualities. |

I didn't either. I guess I missed out on LuigiU. Definitely not paying marked up values.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Check your local Walmart for Luigi. I saw a couple copies over the weekend. I think it was in a green case?
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I got the Mario that came with the Luigi, both on the same disc. Was that available outside getting it with the system?
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Yes. It's also available as DLC for Mario but you have to have the MarioU disc in so might as well just own the LuigiU disc instead of eating up HDD space.

So are these limited retail releases? I want to pick up New Super Luigi U in physical format along with NES Remix. I didn't realize they'd be "limited."
That's the only one on that list that was intended to be a limited edition, though. The rest are just the way things shake out. Nintendo tends to underprint so they don't get stuck with excess stock. More and more, I think they're embracing digital for the 'long tail'. Tons of 3DS games -- even prominent first-party games like Kid Icarus -- have similarly vanished. Copies of these games are still out there in the wild. They're just not easy to find (without paying a markup from resellers, anyway). |

It doesn't. With baseball and boxing having come out last June, and the already-out-of-print physical release following in July, I think that's all she wrote for Wii Sports Club.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Has there been a Pictionary game released for the Wii U yet? so far Sketch from Game and Wario is the only thing i've found thats close.
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
WayForward was working on a Pictionary game ("Pictionary Universe") for the Wii U, but that seemed to have been killed when THQ keeled over. There's another sketching minigame in Wii Party U, but Sketch is the closest thing there is right now.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I swung by and picked up some games on my lunch break. Picked up Pikmin 3 and Lego City: Undercover at Target (and was able to price match Kmart with both) and then stopped by Walmart and grabbed NES Remix Pack and Wii Sports Club. Unfortunately full price on those two.
I'm still going to rent them from the library first to make sure they are worth keeping, but I don't want to deal with the hassle of trying to find them later. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I may try getting Lego City: Undercover again, although Kmart shows out of stock I don't know if anyone will price match it.
There seems to be quite a few copies of New Super Mario Bros. U with Super Luigi U used around here at Gamestop. $44.99 after PUR discount doesn't seem too bad for the compilation disc. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I finally got everything set up last night. Picked up Hyrule Warriors from the library and popped it in for 30 mins and remembered how boring Dynasty Warriors was. I still have DKC Tropical Freeze to try out as well.
While not uncomfortable, it did feel a little awkward playing on the gamepad. Do the pro controllers normally go on sale? I didn't really want to drop $50 on a controller at the moment. |
