Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Eurogamer posted a speed run that breezes through the entire prologue in about 10 minutes:
...although that's admittedly skipping the cutscenes and having the foreknowledge that goes along with playing through it multiple times. Speedruns don't really mean anything, but still...!

Using $15 reward certificate from Best Buy for this for PS4. I figure that discount is good for a relatively short game.

I played around with it for a good 90 minutes and had a blast. Didn't complete any missions just explored. The people that are finishing it in 2 hours are probably the same people that finished games like Bioshock in 4 hours.

Yeah, I played a couple hours, mostly goofing around, seeing what I can get away with, having fun, etc. I hardly scratched the surface of the story. It is a ton of fun, controls great and I can't wait to play more.

I know it's a prologue game, but I am very impressed with this title on PS4. I have never played a MGS title before, so it took me some time to get used to the controls, but once I got used to it, BAM, main game over
I still need to play some of the side missions and replay the main mission to get a better score on both normal and hard. The visuals at night seem more impressive than daytime, but it all still looks good. I'm looking forward to the main game, whenever that's coming out.

I actually enjoy the side missions, that open up after you finish the main mission, more. They're also during the day time, which shows off the graphics far better than the main mission's night-time setting.
As far as actual in-game stats, I've put in about 5 hours and the game tells me I'm 20% done.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Decided to watch a walkthrough video and it looks like an entertaining demo. I like that they finally took inspiration from Splinter Cell regarding the radio conversations and borrowed some multiplayer FPS mechanics regarding enemy "marking". But no way in hell would I buy it.
I'll wait for the full game but something tells me that I'll be seeing a lot of irksom Kojima-isms that were hinted at in this release. Namely, the horrid writing and lengthy cutscenes that will have me spamming the triangle button (or was it the start button in MGS4?). But I am glad to see the radio convos seem to be completely out of the way for good (and are actually useful and to the point when triggered). Although if the game proper proves me wrong, I'll be pleasantly surprised and willing to spend my cash.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I rented the PS3 version today. I was never wowed by the Fox Engine (not how I was by the recent Assassin's Creed video or how Crysis 3 looks on PC) and now I see why. It's nothing that's really taxing the PS4 in the slightest. At least not what you'd expect from a next gen system versus its predecessor. The only major losses from PS4 to PS3 is that the game is in 720p (noticeable to me sitting 7' from a 60" TV) versus 1080p and that the PS3 version is not as fluid in motion (it looks to my eye like they dropped from 60fps on the PS4 to 30fps on the PS3). But, heck, this is the first game Kojima makes for the PS4 so I'm sure once MGSVI rolls along, the Fox Engine will truly shine. Not saying that it looks like crap. Just saying that it's great for showcasing the PS3's graphics capabilities but not showing much of a leap forward on the PS4.
That said, I had a great time with this title but I am glad I didn't buy it. Definitely not worth more than a rental. But I do know that whenever GOTY or UE release of MGSV is released that includes this prologue and the main game, I'll definitely be adding it to my collection.

If you're waiting for an Ultimate Edition or Game of the Year Edition from the Phantom Pain, be prepared for a long wait. The Phantom Pain alone isn't even expected til 2015 and even that's not a guarantee.

No biggie. Unless Ground Zeroes drops to $10 or less, I don't see myself ever buying it by its lonesome.

I have only played the PS4 version ($15, otherwise I never would have bought it), so I have no way of comparing it to the PS3 version, but to me the game's clarify, lighting, and colors stuck out to me. Second only to inFamous; Second Son so far.

By the way, where did you get it for $15?

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I had some Best Buy reward points that I redeemed towards it.
I would be willing to bet in 3 months it will be sold for that for retail. The game sold really well, at least at my local Best Buy where I had to trade in my damaged mailed copy for an undamaged one. There was only one more copy left to trade it for last Wednesday, the week it came out.

Yeah $15 would be the trigger price for this title.

I returned the disc to Redbox today. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to keep playing it. After MGSiV, I swore I was done with this franchise but this release has sucked me back in.
