Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Open world MGS

Hideo Kojima has unveiled a brand new Metal Gear Solid game at a Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary Event in Tokyo. The game is subtitled: Ground Zeroes and was demoed running on a high-end PC running Konami's next-gen 'Fox Engine'.

Muttered words aroudn the internet from attendees at the event suggests the game's demo was set around a base at night, in the rain, with open world gameplay following an in-engine cinematic that is, reportedly, amazing - and there's no change in the graphics as the cut-scene moves to gameplay. Snake can reportedly call upon a chopper at any time and also drive a jeep.

With the game running on PC, it's highly likely the demo was yet another glimpse at what the next generation of console games will look like. Fox Engine is, after all, Konami's next-gen engine. But to know now there's a brand new MGS prequel headed by Kojima himself being made for it is an incredibly mouth-watering prospect.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Without seeing the thread title, and just seeing that picture alone, I would have guessed it was Sam Fisher and not Snake.

It's a nice looking trailer but I'm so burned out on this franchise that I can't muster any excitement.

And keep the cut scenes under 30 minutes each.

Yeah, I'm the same. To be fair the last game in the series I played was Sons of Liberty, but I used to get really excited about these games. Now, I've really cooled on the franchise. It's nice that people are getting more Snake action though. I remember hearing that the last game was supposed to be the "last" game if I'm not mistaken.

It's weird to say, but while I probably won't be playing the game, I do like to hear people talk about the Metal Gear games. Kojima is a man of ideas, and I like hearing people interpreting what his games are about. I look forward to that.

Kojima has been saying that literally since MGS2. MGS2 was supposed to be the last... then MGS3 was supposed to be the last... then MGS4 was supposed to be the last...

Its just all hype and nothing more. MGS will go on as long as it remains a cash cow.

Count me in with the people that aren't really excited by this. I loved the first two MGS games (as well as the original two 8-bit games). I liked but didn't love MGS3. I never had any excitement whatsoever for MGS4 and never even played it. I think the reason why I lost interest in the franchise is just because I grew up. All the bloated exposition seems really sophisticated and awesome when you are young, but when you get older you realize these games are really not that good at all and the stories are complete nonsense.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

That video was great.

Sometimes the games in these series leaves a bad taste in my mouth upon completion. But the journey is great in each one.

I could compare the metal gear solid games to the television show LOST.

Looking forward to this....

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

So I'm confused....this isn't MGS5? Didn't the title screen from MGS5 leak earlier this year?

Maybe they've given up on the numbering system?

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

MGS:3 was a prequel, so would that make this the prequel to the prequel? Either way this is probably one of my top 3 favorite series. I cant get enough of these games so I am sold

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

I would assume this takes place in the late 70s or early 80s based on how big boss looks. A sequel to part 3, prequel to the rest. (refering to metal gear solid games)

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Well they referred to several things from Peace Walker so I'm assuming it's after that (Peace Walker itself is after Snake Eater).

I'm pretty sure Konami said that was a fake.
