Re: Dead Space 3
If you ordered DS3 and are digging DS2, you're doing yourself a disservice by not finding the original DS and starting with that. Part 2 makes many references to the first game. Plus it has just as many "oh shit" moments. And it's actually pretty short compared to the other two. People that haven't played any of these are really missing out on some truly fantastic games, IMO.

Re: Dead Space 3
The chapters all flow into one another as the story moves along. You'll just see a new chapter briefly pop up on the bottom of the screen when you reach it. The first game is the only one where it was obvious when you were starting a new chapter.

Oh is there a way to see what chapter I'm currently on?

Re: Dead Space 3
In DS3 you can pause it and then go to "progress and unlocks" and your current chapter will be selected... in DS2 I really don't remember if there was a way to tell other than paying attention when it briefly flashes on the screen.

Yeah just saw it thanks. I'm on chapter 2 and am stuck on the part by the laundry room and there's like 6-7 that come at you in the total dark. I'm sooooo fucked.

This game is awesome. The weapons tips helped a ton--having the right gun makes a HUGE difference. I crafted a shotgun that has a plasma blast as a lower attachment, and it rules. Two hours went by like 2 minutes last night, and the little
is worth his weight in gold--got me enough stuff to actually build some attachments, power up my suit, etc. I'm somewhere early in Chapter 6 and it's really getting good.

Don't overlook or neglect the ration seals that the scavenger bots will also pick up. They can be used in place of real money to buy more resources and weapon parts in the microtransaction menu ("Downloadable Content") at benches. This becomes much more important in the harder modes, especially Pure Survival.

Re: Dead Space 3
Chapter 6 is still WAY early in the game (there are 19 total). Plus, the early chapters go by much much faster than the later ones. As been mentioned already, the crafting doesn't really take hold until later (or on subsequent playthroughs). Not only do you need to find the parts, but you also need to collect a good amount of resources (scrap metal, tungsten, etc) to build any "pre-made" ones via blueprints. If you enjoy the game, you will definitely be playing more than once, or going back to previous parts using chapter select. I honestly didn't get a real solid grasp of the bench until my first playthrough was pretty much complete. But if you continue to play the game in other modes or whatnot, the bench becomes your best friend.

Finished this up just in time for Crysis 3 tomorrow. Great game. Maybe a bit to much wall scaling and zero gravity stuff but overall really good. If there's another I'll be on board (which is more than I'll say after a recent third game from Ubisoft.
)

I took a chance in this with the Amazon Deal of the Day and I'm hooked. The demo didn't do it justice. Just like the second game, I thought I'd never play and well so much for that

Re: Dead Space 3
I've played through this game 5 times already, plus numerous times just randomly jumping into online games. I absolutely love it. It's too bad so many people seemed to be turned off by the demo and mediocre reviews. It's definitely one of the better games I've played in the last couple years.

I've been enjoying this quite a bit too and am just about through my initial playthrough. Figuring out the weapons bench is a must. I've been walking around with two rocket launchers, one with a lower shotgun and one with a lower incendiary grenade launcher. On normal, it's toeing the line of being too easy. Once I finish it up, I'll probably go back and tackle the co-op missions and then maybe try to 100% everything.
One thing that I do find extremely annoying is the save system. I decided to take a break from the story and hop back to replay and 100% some previous levels. That created a new save point, so I couldn't get back to where I was in the story. Then, choosing the 'load the furthest unbroken point in the story' took me to chapter 11, despite being on 16 at the time. Finally I just picked replay chapter 16 and it let me start at a checkpoint not too far from where I'd been.

I love the Dead Space franchise. I lliked the Demo. I hate that reviews say its the same old thing. I am OK with that since I think that the gameplay From the previous 2 was already great and I just want more. I 'll say I played Aliens Colonial Marines and this blows it away. You could say its apples to oranges but if that Aliens game was more like Dead Space it would have been so much better.

According to VGChartz, as of February 23rd, it's only sold 880k copies across all platforms in the world. Wow. That's pretty terrible.
Dead Space 2 sold 2.88 million across all platforms in the world.
My guess is it will sell better after it sees a price drop. I know many people who held off on Dead Space 2 until it got to a cheaper price point.

On a side note, EA really has to stop with their Origin bullshit. Get on board with Steam already and their sales will increase a decent amount, even if we can never read about it.

I just don't get it. I've played all 3, and DS3 is a great game. I don't know why it's not selling; just don't get it. I'm on Chapter 13, and while it took a while to get going and to get used to the changes, it's a compelling game and infinitely better than something like Assassin's Creed 3 (with 4 already announced). Bummer...

Re: Dead Space 3
Fans didn't buy the latest installment of a solo survival horror series after it was transformed into a microtransaction-laden co-op action shooter?
You don't say, EA. You don't say.
(As I've said before, I really liked DS3. But this is the impression that many people had about the game before it was released, and I don't see how it's not responsible.)

Aiiiii... And EA thought there was no market for horror? I bet those Visceral Games managers are really shaking there heads right now.

Rumors of Dead Space’s Demise Are False, Says Studio
I'm sure there's something going on here, whatever it is.
Rumors of Dead Space’s Demise Are False, Says Studio
A report earlier this morning, citing unidentified sources, suggested that Electronic Arts had terminated its Dead Space franchise—including work on an unannounced Dead Space 4—in light of poor sales of Dead Space 3. The game's studio says the rumors are false, and EA itself disputes the portrayal of Dead Space as a troubled brand.
"The reports of our death were greatly exaggerated," said Dino Ignacio, a member of the Dead Space development team, over Twitter. Another Visceral Games developer, writing on NeoGAF, called the rumor "completely false based on my knowledge."
An EA spokesperson at first told Kotaku that the company wouldn't comment on rumor or speculation, but later added: "While we have not announced sales data for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and it remains an important IP for EA."
