Re: Max Payne 3

Nice. I really liked the first two games and have been anxiously awaiting this one. I'll have to do yet another quick runthrough of the others before this one comes out.

Re: Max Payne 3

Looks like it has a lot of action but, aside from the cello version of the theme song (as used in Max Payne 2), it doesn't feel like an ad for a Max Payne game at all.

Agreed, and Max himself doesn't even look anything like Max anymore. I wonder how many years have passed between MP2 and MP3? Max in MP2 looks early 30s, but the Max in this game looks like late 40s.

and he's got bit of a gut there..not that that ruins the character but...he looks more like a uhm..."not fit" version of Sam Fisher. Also...are we going to get
Spoiler:
Mona Sax in this? I fucking thought that character was pretty cool

Given the premise of this one, I'm guenna guess the answer to your question is "no", Snake.

It seems like we see that transformation though.

I want more though. All that work and to not have it continue...guess Max got screwed again.

Spoiler:
Mona died in Max Payne 2, unless you completed the game on hard difficulty which changed it so she survived. Considering most gamers today are wimps, most gamers have never seen the hard difficulty ending so most likely Mona dying is the canon ending.

This is my view of it as well. It was a special bonus for those of us that managed to beat it on the hardest difficulty. Given how it was a "happy" ending, it's likely not canon in order to make the sequel a possibility.

It's funny that
Spoiler:
Mona Sax is so beloved. Especially since she was a nobody cameo in the first game. Same for Vlad. Both those characters only appeared twice in the first game but the second game supposed Max had a long and deep history with them. This was possible with Vlad since we don't see what happened between him and Max in the time between the first and second game. But the last time Max saw Mona was when she was shot in the elevator.

Don't get me wrong. I love both of those characters but the change in their status from the first game to the second was quite jarring.

And if gamers today are too whimpy to complete Max Payne 2 on its hardest setting, I'd hate to see them try their hand at Max Payne. That was far more punishing. Particularly the building explosion/fire.

Re: Max Payne 3

Speaking of nobody cameos, remember the phone call from "the godfather" to Vinnie in Max Payne 2? That was the only time "the godfather" was ever mentioned in either game, so I assumed it was setting up Max Payne 3. I wonder if it will actually have anything to do with the third game now.

Re: Max Payne 3

I don't remember that at all. Good thing I'm currently replaying Max Payne 2 (when I'm not playing Deus Ex: HR). Shame I can't install Max Payne on Windows 7. I would have loved to do a marathon session of both games.

Re: Max Payne 3

I have played MP1 on Win7 with no problems other than sound issues, but I found a fix for it on the Steam forums.

Re: the godfather call
Spoiler:
When Vinnie is in the Captain Baseball Bat Boy costume which has a bomb in it, you go to his apartment and you can listen to his phone calls there. One call is from someone who is only referred to as "the godfather" and in the end credits it actually even credits "the godfather." I always assumed that meant there was still someone higher up on the food chain that Max would later find out about and go after in MP3.

Re: Max Payne 3

I remember listening to Vinnie's answering machine (wasn't there also a call from a hooker?) but don't recall that. Guess i'll find out in my current playthrough.

Where in the steam forums did you find out how to install MP1 on Win7?

Re: Max Payne 3

Yeah, it's funny I actually looked that up in the morning after reading your post that the original game has trouble in Windows 7. I bought the game on Steam when it was $2.50, but never got around to replaying it.

No, and why would you even assume that not having played the game?

Because it's called "The Fall of Max Payne".

Fall doesn't mean Death. It's simply a downfall for the character since his life was still very much in the crapper despite the "happy" ending of the first game.

But what the hell do I know? I'm still trying to figure out what The Fall of Sam Axe actually meant.

Re: Max Payne 3

The previews for this make it sound like it's still awesome, and still Max.

Thanks for those links guys. Makes me far more optimistic about this game.
