Re: Nba 2k12.
I was wanting to try and score a Magic cover but I figure I can get one used from Gamestop down the line. Everyone is gonna want Jordan anyway.
You nailed it, Decker. With Rage, Arkham City, and so much more coming soon, there's no need to get this anytime soon. |
Re: Nba 2k12.
For anyone in LA. The Best Buy in West LA is doing an 8pm-12am launch party with Magic Johnson supposedly attending.
My enthusiasm for the NBA is definitely at a hault because of the lockout, but I am excited about the Legends teams and plan on getting the game tomorrow and use that to occupy my time until a season starts and rosters are updated. |
Re: Nba 2k12.
I found the Magic cover at Target this morning. They didn't have any out on the floor yet, and the guy went to the back and said he saw 2 copies with Magic.

I'm really wondering how much of an effect the lockout will have on the sales of this game -- especially at launch. I'm actually guessing a lot, since there's little incentive to get this game (at least right now) when nobody knows who'll even be on their favorite team next season (or if there even will be a next season). I think the Legends stuff is pretty cool, but I wonder about the bulk of NBA 2K patrons, who I imagine just want to play this year's teams. In addition, there would normally be a big buzz about the upcoming season at the time the game came out. The only NBA news I hear about these days is Kobe's pending contract with an Italian team. I predict as big a negative effect as there was when Tiger started slumping and sales of TW11 & 12 went in the crapper. We'll see, I guess.
Personally, I'm not buying this until it drops cheap. Too many other hot games in the next 30-40 days. |
Re: Nba 2k12.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get any game to actually load up. I was going to play in quick game mode, and once I got my teams selected, I hit the start button to advance. Then it shows the loading screen, then it takes me back to the main menu screen. ????
This is the PS3 version. |

Re: Nba 2k12.
Just an FYI for those interested in this game from California. I pre-ordered it at Best Buy and picked it up today and they only had 2 copies of the Magic Johnson cover at my local store.
However, if you go to the register, they have extra Magic Johnson covers there to replace Bird or Jordan if they are the only ones left. The bar code is labeled "Promo Only" Not sure how long they will keep the extra Magic Johnson covers at the register around. I had a few gift cards from trading in some games a month ago and only paid $20.24 out the door. |
Re: Nba 2k12.
Picked it up on Steam when I got home from work. Can't beat $30. It's still downloading, but I should be able to get a few games in tonight.

Re: Nba 2k12.
I was able to get some games in. My previous issue was with 2K servers. I think I was signed in and that was causing the hangups. Not surprised that on day 1 they are having issues. I reloaded the game later without being signed in and it loaded up fine.
I haven't played a 2K game in a few years and noticed the computer has the defensive skills of Gary Payton. Lots of steals during my first game. I played with the '91 Lakers vs the Blazers. Clyde Drexler dominated. Definitely will take some practice to shake the rust off. |
Re: Nba 2k12.
I got 1 game in also as the 1991 Lakers vs the 1991 Blazers.
It looks like you need to play and win 15 games in the NBA's Greatest Mode to Unlock more teams. Since I pre-ordered, I also got a sheet inside with a code to Unlock 2 bonus teams. The 1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings. I think the server is having some issues today because I wasn't able to Unlock them. |

Re: Nba 2k12.
TRU didn't have this when I got there to pick up Rage. They said it never got shipped to them. Sucks for the people that went there for the gift card. Oh well, less temptation for me to buy it.
Oh and in what is obviously a marketing move, the NBA canceled the pre-season today due to the lockout. Come on, we know it was so people will buy the game ;) |
Re: Nba 2k12.
I've also heard that you have to manually save your settings or whatever or there is a good chance your bonus teams that you get from the code will dissapear.
I picked up a copy with the Magic cover yesterday, but haven't checked the game out yet. |
Re: Nba 2k12.
Bought it and put it up on ebay after spending some time with it. While there are some amazing things about the game, there are things about it that I just find infuriating and gamebreaking. A simulation basketball game is probably just too difficult to get right.

Re: Nba 2k12.
The number of tipped passes is still ridiculous, but I am digging it so far. I know that "retro TV presentations" were a feature last year, but they have really amped it up this year with the fonts used, the way the score is presented, etc. Playing with the 89 Pistons, it was like I was watching on CBS. And while I know they will get repetitive eventually, the conversations by Clark Kellogg and Steve Kerr are pretty cool how they will mention something and then circle back to it again a few moments later ("you were mentioning Chris Webber a moment ago, Steve, yada yada") - it really makes it seem like a real broadcast

Re: Nba 2k12.
Just curious : Does this game have some sort of "Online Pass" to keep people from buying second-hand copies?

Could you clarify what pissed you off about it? With the exception of the lockout and no updated rosters, there are some great features on the game including the NBA Greatest that will keep me entertained for months. |

-eek- You spent $60 on the game, just to put it on auction hours later?

With the exception of the lockout and no updated rosters, there are some great features on the game including the NBA Greatest that will keep me entertained for months. 1. Online is still awful. 2k is notorious and they still haven't put any effort into it. 2. Basketball passing is the most "controlled variable" in all of sports and unfortunately it can't be replicated (at least up until this point) in a videogame. Whether it is a bounce pass, a lob to the lower corner of the backboard, etc...there is just isn't a realistic approach to this in videogame basketball. 3. The spacing is all off. Players don't correctly run their lanes on breaks or in the basic secondary break. And in the half court offense, players won't intelligently find holes or even spot up at correct spots. 4. CPU A.I. Pick and rolls (which some NBA teams will run over and over in real life), backdoor cuts, etc.. just aren't run enough or aren't run correctly. 5. The bodies just don't interact in a realistic manner. In real life, there are times when an on ball defender will get caught up on a screen and completely swallowed. The physics in this game just aren't built that in way. And from an offensive standpoint, the screener doesn't dive or fade or popout realistically. Those are a few things off the top of my head, but they are all legit and realistic complaints (not nitpicking) that all add up to a game that just isn't fun for me and gamekillers. But everyone is different. I don't "know" soccer. So when I play FIFA...I will notice things like lack of fouls, but there are a lot of tactics/spacing/aggression on the pitch that I just don't see because I am ignorant to it. |
Re: Nba 2k12.
Anyone playing NBA Jam On Fire edition? I'm loving. Playing as Shaq and Dwight on the same team is awe-inspiring.

Re: Nba 2k12.
The ridiculous amount of deflections continue to drag this game down. Not the ones you'd expect where you're trying to pass it through 2-3 defenders, but shit like a defender picking off a pass with his back to the play, Muggsy Bogues breaking up alley-oops to Jordan, 3 on 1's almost always perfectly defended (CPU player either steals the pass or comes up with block from behind on the layup)
|
Re: Nba 2k12.
Damn, I was really hoping they toned that stupid shit down this year. It is really annoying playing against people who time that x button right and intercept your pass even though they are nowhere near being in a position to be able to do it.

Re: Nba 2k12.
Slightly OT, how long does 2K support the online of their older games? Can you still play 2k11 or are they like EA and only allow the current game?
