I want the Magic cover, but it looks like you're not given a choice on Amazon. I guess I'll have to actually buy this in store.

Re: Nba 2k12.

Whatever, I'm all over this game just to use those 90-91 Warriors and especially the 92-93 Hornets. Getting to bust out the "Dream Shake" with Hakeem will be fantastic too.

Surprised that noone has posted any videos yet. Here's a few trailers with some of the greatest teams:

Will all of these be complete rosters? Unlike last year which had only numbers for some of the players.

I've only played about 20 hours on 2K11, but I'm 110% game for this edition. Since the NBA is in lockout, the old school teams should keep me entertained until new rosters are ready.

Re: Nba 2k12.

And yes, I want the Magic Johnson cover being an old school Lakers fan. Going to probably have to hit Best Buy. Even though Amazon has no tax, I don't want to risk them sending me a Larry Bird cover and I definitely don't need Jordan for a 2nd straight year.

I like seeing the 90's Magic team in there.

That's pretty sweet. I actually haven't had 2K11 for that long but it really got me back into this series. Been having disc reading problems with 11 though so that and the classic lineups for 12 will pretty much make this a day one buy for me.

Re: Nba 2k12.

So I will assume it will still be like before, in that you can't make custom teams with the players from the classic teams?

However, a vintage Blazers team with Duckworth sits very well with me.

I hope they've changed that. Would be cool to create an all-time team. Other than Reggie Miller i think all my favorites are in this years game.

That's awesome. I'm glad they busted ass to get more guys to commit their names to this. Having just a starting five for some teams in 2K11 was a bummer.

Or worse than that, a starting three with two guys from the bench filling things out.

Re: Nba 2k12.

Out of all the Laker teams they could have chosen in the Shaq-Kobe era, the 1997-98 team makes no sense. That was the pre-Phil Jackson era and that was the 2nd straight year they got eliminated in the playoffs by the Jazz.

It would have made more sense to get the 1999-00 team which was the 1st year at Staples Center and Jackson's 1st year and their 1st championship of the new decade.

And did they really need 6 different Bulls teams?

I'm sad they don't even have Nick Van Exel included on the team too. I think that was the year the Lakers had 4 all-star's. Playing as a 2nd year Kobe Bryant seems like it would be fun though.

Re: Nba 2k12.

Great list of teams. I'm sure Pistons fans will be upset that there's no recent Pistons team on there despite them winning the championship and competing at the top of the East for so long, while there are teams like Webber's Kings who didn't even get to the Finals, but oh well. I guess they couldn't get Barkley, huh?

I love NBA 2K11, which was good enough to have me sit out a year of basketball games, but I don't think I can resist this. They have done such a great job over the years. I mean, part of it is my love of basketball, but I like football too and Madden doesn't get me this amped up for the next iteration.

Re: Nba 2k12.

NBA 2K12 Will Not Include Rookies

Unlike the NFL Lockout, where EA Sports had rights to rookies for Madden NFL 12 regardless of whether there would be a season or not, the NBA lockout will cost its league licensed video game from introducing the incoming rookies. NBA 2K12 will not include any of the rookies drafted in June – as confirmed through a blog posting at Operation Sports from a long-time member who attended a PR event for the game yesterday.

The plan would be to add the rookies through a roster update – but that could only be done once the lockout is lifted and at this point that seems unlikely to happen anytime soon. In the meantime players like #1 pick Kyrie Irving, #2 pick Derrick Williams, Kemba Walker, Jimmer Fredette and all those chosen in the 2011 NBA Draft will be absent from NBA 2K12.

It’s an unfortunate situation and presents yet another reason why the company decided to put so much of their resources into the “legends” and historic teams. Those will transcend the current NBA – which now will not just be using rosters based on the end of last year but won’t even have the rookies to look forward to.

DJariya 09-07-11 05:35 PM

Re: Nba 2k12.

^^^ Not surprised that was expected. The NBAPA doesn't allow the likeness of anyone to appear on games until a contract is signed. Not 100% sure, but I think the rosters would be updated as of July or early August, so it was obvious no rookies would be on the game.

Kedrix 09-12-11 10:02 AM

Re: Nba 2k12.

The rookies was no surprise either but based on the fact we are getting a ton of FULL ROSTER classic teams, I am not sweating too much. To be honest, I don't even follow much current basketball anyway so playing with classic teams is way more interesting to me.

I finished up all of the achievements on NBA 2k11 I wanted to with unlocking all forty air jordans yesterday. 29 of 40. The only ones missing are the ones that have to do with online or myplayer related. Just out of curiousity, is anybody interested in boosting (if there is a way too)the online portion of NBA 2k11? It is not a super big deal to me but if somebody else out there is missing a few in the online arena, I am willing to work it out.

Sonny Corinthos 09-18-11 04:10 PM

Re: Nba 2k12.

Historic Teams Will Not Be Playable Online in NBA 2K12.

Another huge blow to the appeal of NBA 2K12 was confirmed today as Kotaku reports that historic teams will not be available for use in online play. There was disappointment last year when the teams were not allowed to be taken online even in unranked games but providing the opportunity this year was much more critical under the circumstances. Last year at least there was roster movement through free agency and in-season updates that added intrigue and variety at release and beyond.

Interest in 2K12 has taken a serious hit as of late due to the realization that the NBA lockout is going to extend well into the regular season. That means rosters will basically be the same as last year – while even lacking the infusion of rookies – and modes such as NBA Today become irrelevant. Nixing the use of the historic teams online really misses out on a potential avenue for something unique that could have overshadowed the other deficiencies and it may be a fatal blow for those who were already on the fence about purchasing 2K12.

Obviously it's a big part of it.
