Haven't bought a new game in 2 years and was thinking about heading out to pick up Borderlands 2 this weekend, then I remembered I hadn't heard anything about this game in a while. I want to love it... but I think I'm going to wait for some reviews.

No reviews, that can't be a good sign.

The Alien franchise in terms of gaming hasn't been good since Alien vs Predator 2 for the PC several yeas back. But one promising aspect is Gearbox has their hands in this and after the success of Borderlands we have some degree of hope. Lets just wait and see but I do hope the game does well above average.

The vibe I'm getting from twitter is to expect horrendous reviews when the embargo lifts sometime after midnight. I'm really torn now since I love Aliens so much and I desperately want that statue but $100 seems stupid as fuck now. Plus it's obviously already shipped from amazon. Ugh.

Yeah, if they thought this was going to have good reviews they'd have the embargo much earlier so people could get their pre-orders in.

Gearbox really isn't a good developer. They stumbled on to one successful formula, and will milk it to its grave.

I'm not shocked either. I was just expecting more in the 6-7 range than the 4-5. One of those "if you're a fan of the movie, you'll get your money's worth" kind of things.

No kidding. What is that? It's almost creepy in its own right. A silver alien just walking around. Not attacking. Do you shoot it, or do you just let it keep walking around. Weird.

I have a copy that shipped from Gamefly today. Pretty sure I'm glad I just rented it. Might play a few hours quickly just to see if I need to get it back so I can get Crysis.

Starting to wonder a bit if Gearbox is a one hit wonder with Borderlands.

Wow is this thing getting absolutely savaged in reviews. I got a text last night from Gamestop, telling me my preorder was ready for pickup. I recall preordering it and paying the full amount via credit back in 2009 or 2010, but thought I'd canceled it and applied the credit to something else. Guess I'll have to call today and see what they've got on file.

Destructoid's 2.5/10 review is pretty good and tells me all I need to know.

As much as it's getting hammered in the reviews I'd still like to play it. Maybe not at $60 but I still have $27 left in Amazon gift cards from Christmas. Maybe when it drops in a little in a few weeks I'll take the chance and get it cheap.

Man, I'm happy I cancelled my $100 preorder. I still love borderlands though.

Anybody want to spoil the "plot twist" (in tags of course) referenced in this review? It sounds hilariously bad, and I'll never play this thing.

Really sad to hear this. I'm convinced that the "Alien" saga is a curse when it comes to games built around it much like Star Trek. If the reviews are correct then this is truely a sad day and maybe a setback to Gearbox.

Many quote the disappointing graphics, the repetitive campaign, the lack of respect towards the movies, and the way-too-hectic gameplay that doesn't really focus on delivering a remotely scary experience, like the one from the films.

The current user review score on Metacritic is at 5.0/10 for the PC version and 4.3/10 for the Xbox 360. For other editions like the PS3 or Wii U ones, reviews haven't been submitted just yet.

"The entire experience is heavily scripted, having you move through linear corridors, and before you know the word of it, you're shooting at other sentient human beings in an Alien game. Their AI, along with your teammates' and even the Xenomorphs' are broken to say the least. They'll run past you, they'll stop up and stare at you, and apart from scripted events they'll act as turrets that do nothing but shoot/jump at you."

While negative reviews from regular users isn't that uncommon, professional websites have also given it extremely low scores, as the PC version has an average of 39/100 while the Xbox 360 is at 44/100.
