re: Battlefield Talk
I'd like to take a moment and say that, while it's been fun this summer playing with a friend from high school and my brother plus a few of you DVDTalk regulars, I do genuinely miss those earlier days of getting a couple squads together from our ranks, back before Battlefield 3 splintered the group last fall (really, that seems like a major turning point, as far as I can tell). It would be fun to play BFBC2 with you guys again. Is there anything I could do to help make that happen?
I, too, have rediscovered the knife kill and am having a "knife renaissance," as it were. I stopped going out of my way to use the knife last summer for three reasons: 1. I was running up to people shooting me to try and knife them and I lost more often than I won, adding to an already poor KDR. 2. My in-game stats wouldn't show me any knife kills over 1235 even though I had plenty beyond that number. Have even had some people no longer show up on my list (like a guy I got 6 tags from) and while I've gotten DieCast's 7 times only 5 show up. 3. I started star chasing on various weapons and it seemed more pertinent to blast someone with a shotgun and get that much closer to a platinum star than nab another set of tags that wouldn't show up on my in-game stats, anyway. In the last couple of weeks, though, it's been fun to score tags again. I think a lot of that has to do with playing with BJ since he's an old friend and brand-new to the game. Hearing his delight when he gets tags reminds me of those first days playing and it got me fired up to do it again. Perhaps it's a side effect of being a Level 50 player now, but I've gotten a lot of hate mail and killcam teabag revenge kills lately, particularly after I knife someone once. Or twice. Or three or four times. Hey, if you don't like me stabbing you, please stop going to the exact same place on the map! One time after I knifed someone twice, I put a grenade on the bush where he kept hiding, and then hid nearby. Sure enough, he ran out to his favorite spot and when the bush wasn't there anymore he just sort of stood there. So I took his tags again. Nom. In star chasing news, I've had fun working on a few weapons at once: - Worked my way up through gold stars 3-5 on anti-tank mines in the last couple of weeks - that doesn't take long on Panama Canal, Port Valdez, and even Oasis if you place them right. Anybody have favorite places they like to place theirs? - The Saiga semi-automatic shotgun is my current go to for Assault and Engineer (5 gold stars so far) and the NS-2000 bullpup is my Recon shotgun of choice (6 gold stars). Dogowar pointed out that it reloads twice as quick as the 870 Combat and SPAS-12 so it's a no-brainer now that I have the 870 Combat platinum star. As for Medic, I'm using the XM8 LMG and I don't know why I didn't use it earlier, that thing is a beast! Quicker reload and more damage than the M-249 SAW and accuracy isn't that far behind the M-60 (platinum) - and trust me, accuracy is what I need in a weapon! - Took down a chopper with the VADS yesterday and hit gold star 9 with the stationary weapons. I'd forgotten how many choppers I've taken down! Plus, in my early days I had a lot of success with the Heavy MG on Bravo at Laguna Alta picking off enemies lurking on the hill (speaking of going back to the same place again and again...). Might have to go back to that to round off the platinum star. - Never thought it would happen, but I actually platinum starred a pistol! Shot my 500th foe with the M93 Burst pistol the other day and it felt really good. I didn't see the point of the pistol in that first year of playing; it only seemed like something a Recon would kill me with if I was too close for them to use their sniper rifle effectively. Now that I understand it as something to whip out as soon as I'm out of ammo, racking up kills has become a breeze. In fact, I've gotten hatemail over this, too. I've gotten several long-range kills with the M93 and at least two people I've killed have messaged me to say when they saw where I was on the killcam that the range was baloney. On the other hand, I've had teammates send me hatemail when I sneak a kill out from underneath them by tapping a little M93 lead into the guy they've torn to pieces with their assault rifle and nab the final kill. Anyway, I've moved on to the MP-443 Grach pistol as that seems to fit my mode of play. I thought about going to the .45 so I can beef up my stats via BFBC2 Vietnam as well but I just don't play that enough, really. Plus, I need something with more accuracy and a larger clip and that's the Grach. - I'm at gold star 8 for the mortar strike and when that's done I think I'll switch to Assault for a while and work on my C4 platinum star (almost 5 gold stars now). After I wrap up some of these platinum stars I think I'm going to settle back into favorites (Carl Gustav and M-14, if I can re-learn how to shoot it!) and have a blast. That said, star chasing is definitely a blast for the time being and is keeping me engaged, for sure. Again, would love to play with more of you guys. Feel free to send me a message here, on PSN, or Facebook if you want to set up a time to play. |

Everything started falling apart when Chew died. Battlefield lasted longer than anything else, but I think a lot of people just moved further and further away from it as time passed.

And you are so absurdly close to level 50. Even me? A little respect for the guy who showed you the ropes please! ;) I still remember your very first game on Harvest Day...just marvelling at the destruction. "You can even blow up the ground???" |

I'm off tomorrow maybe I'll get on tonight. Have to find my bluetooth though. Not sure where it is now. LOL

From either side, I like to mine the jeep route out of the other team's base, because somebody will always tear out of there, and I almost always have a pair at the exit of bravo for anybody driving in or out. Epic post Spatch! |

To be fair, we do still have OG, Shum and me (and occasionally R2 & Flip) from the old Warhawk crew. We also have Diecast and Spatch, who played Warhawk a few times. Also, Spatch and I both have brought other players into the fold that we've met along the way, so I always have a friend or two online. |

I was amused to bump into BJ the other night when you weren't playing (a good sign), and I didn't see him drop, so I'm thinking he might have picked up the VIP pass.

Our day care is awesome. Fly in, bring her and your TV and your PS3. We'll drop the girls off, hook up your system, play side by side, order a pizza, and have the best day ever.
Kidding aside, I did meet a married couple here in the Twin Cities who play BFBC2 via some of those MOB guys that Vong was cavorting with back in the day. They have two HDTVs and PS3s, side-by-side, and play together on the same team but in separate squads. There is some echo over their headsets and so in a way it increases squad communication from up to four to up to eight and most maps I played with them we would end up doing some pretty good teamwork. Haven't met them in real life, though. I admit, balancing a new baby, grad school, and work is tough and if I recall correctly, you're in a similar boat, R2. Video games are down the ladder though for me it's one of my only entertainment outlets these days (it's a lot easier to stay in and play or watch Netflix while our girl is sleeping than it is to go out to a movie while she's sleeping, ya know). My wife is pretty cool about helping me have some "me" time and I do my best to offer it right back so she has "her" time. If you see my account is on Netflix, we're likely taking "we" time which is the most important, these days, as we both feel like it can be tough to see each other on a regular basis unless we make a point to do so because of multiple layers of being busy. Priorities, right? |

re: Battlefield Talk
I can see that, definitely. We purposefully cut down to one TV when we moved in together and wanted no TV in the bedroom (there's this new-fangled idea that the bedroom is for sleeping - who knew?!) and keep it only in our common space. So yeah, playing a game also sees me close to our girl in ways your set-up doesn't. That said, nothin' beats a baby girl falling asleep on you; it's as sweet as it gets! :)
Both of you in school - I wish you both luck and hope you can check in to offer some insight into how it works or doesn't work out as you go along. My wife has been thinking about going back to school, too, and we're wondering if that's possible while I'm still in school or not. |

Or maybe we could make a point to pick up the upcoming Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which is obviously a spiritual sequal to Burnout Paradise. http://forum.dvdtalk.com/video-game-...adise-2-a.html |

re: Battlefield Talk
I'm around 'n at. I haven't been able to get online for more than 30 minutes at a time lately. There have been just a metric crapton of distractions at home lately. I'd LOVE to play some BF. I just hate signing on for a game and then having to jump off. So I end up playing a quick game of football or hockey. ...it is regrettable... One of these nights I'm just going to set aside for gaming. Without Tuesdays on permanent and well-known lockdown, I just don't seem to have an evening to myself anymore.
|
re: Battlefield Talk
You are always welcome, flip. If you only pop in for a just the tiniest bit, I will never shame you. I'll only take you with me on a quad bike behind enemy lines so we can stab wookiees and double bag those groceries.
|
re: Battlefield Talk
Put Tuesdays back on lockdown then!
With Warhawk pretty much faded ( :( ), I think a Tuesday Battlefield night could work. |
re: Battlefield Talk
Works for me. Do others have thoughts on other nights? Wednesdays will always be work nights for the rest of my life so that's out for me.

Unfortunately, there's just not enough left to put together a game. Even when I was bringing 4-5 players every week, it was still tight. That's really the beauty of BC2. If we get 8 players in Warhawk, it's barely worth playing, but if we get 8 in BC2, we've pretty much taken over a server. |
