re: Battlefield Talk

Top Three Happenings from this afternoon's squad antics with ogsoley, KTown, and Jackleg_Jack:

#3 - ogsoley accidentally taking KTown's kills, particularly his knifing kills, over and over.

#2 - Hearing KTown (I think) get killed and say, "Angry Fist." Eventually, I got killed by the same player, too - a name starting with "Angry Fist." Until I got killed, I thought KTown was saying it as some sort of odd, out-loud emoticon-type exclamation.

#1 - I have a nasty habit of chucking grenades and promptly blowing myself up. At Bravo on Panama Canal, I blind chucked a grenade at the flag. It ricocheted back at me in the trailer car and I ran like the wind. Turns out the guy was sneaking up on me from behind and it blew him up. His body flew up and hit me. It was awesome.

Oh, and I scored Level 32.

re: Battlefield Talk

I'd also like to add, maybe I'm a douche, or I've been playing with Nic, Slider, and Cruz too much, but my new favorite thing...

Nicholls82 and I were on a team and a guy we were playing with was silent and NEVER moved from the top of a building. He had no kills and just sat up there. Nicholls82 kept spawing on him and was like "Geoforce still hasn't moved" over and over again. We were way ahead, so i C4'd the entire building and brought it down with him in it. then he left our squad..since then, I have been putting C4 on everything and just destroying the buildings...

And I thought I was cruel to the snipers who snipe from the comfort of deployment. When one of 'em is in my squad and won't move I get out the tracer dart gun and light 'em up like a Christmas tree.

re: Battlefield Talk

I like to play on hardened sometimes because the medic can spawn behind "friendly" sniper douchebags and stab, revive, stab, revive, stab, revive, stab, revive....

Hearing their reaction is fucking spectacular!

@ R2, I posted a video a while back on how to take down bldgs with 4 C-4s every time. Sometimes on Arica Harbor, I'll spend the whole map just building douchebag traps and chuckling.

Hehe. That was me. KTown's reaction/laughter when you admitted your confusion was great.

re: Battlefield Talk

Added your brother to the non-DVDTalkers roster, nic44, and took out a few guys we haven't seen in months (as chess said, they're mostly in hardcore and we won't see them until chess is back).

No one shall speak of our Rush devastation tonight. NO ONE.

Sounds like they gave you anal leakage. Hopefully you were able to rage quit and clean up the mess.

There was no time for even a leak. It was basically just an anal explosion.

re: Battlefield Talk

The worse part was that we kept coming back for more. It was like Oliver Twist asking for more roundhouse kicks to the face instead of potato broth.

I think a big part of it was we were playing rush and none of us are experienced enough in rush yet to know a) precisely where the M-Coms are, b) how to best defend / attack them, or c) which ones can just be blown up. I'm thinking of going to the single-player first level, if it's possible to jump to a particular level like that, and snooping around the snow maps after all the baddies are killed to better understand the map in peace.

Pretty sure you knew I was kidding, murray, but just in case...

re: Battlefield Talk

I seriously suck at Rush, mostly from lack of experience I guess. I think I've armed maybe one or two MCOMs in my entire playing time. It's fun, I just need more practice and to learn where the MCOMs are on the maps. At this point I think I'm probably better as the designated "Kill a few dudes and provide distraction while somebody else sneaks around and arms the thing" role.

re: Battlefield Talk

I did a little pin / insignia hunting tonight. Though I've been using the M-14 quite a bit this summer, I took the time to use some sub-machine guns to get closer to earning some bronze stars (yeah, I pretty much only stick with the same weapons and keep gold starring) as well as the Long Service Light Weapons Combat insignia for 500 kills with sub-machine guns. Earned neither but got closer.

Also started planting tracer darts to earn the Long Service Radio Warfare insignia and got around 40 in one night. Used it in conjunction with my RPG and finally got 100 kills for a second Gold Star. As soon as I did, I went right back to good ol' Carl Gustav.

It's weird, but even though I know earning bronze stars with the sub-machine guns gets me closer to both stars, the above-mentioned insignia, and eventually the Earn All Bronze Stars patch, every gun kill that isn't from an M-14 lately feels like one more kill keeping me away from continuing on to Platinum the M-14. Self-defeating paradox? You tell me.

re: Battlefield Talk

It's funny...I never really cared much about any of that. It's a little bit of a "Pokemon effect", where you've gotta catch em all, but you really only use one or two of them for any reason other than leveling them up. Saw a couple of you guys finally leveled past me, but I think I'm still the Ace king by a one or two.

I only have two kits that I use at this point:

Medic: SAW - Red Dot - Magnum Ammo (My go-to kit! Total points whore and puts the COMBAT in combat medic)
Engineer: Gustav - Explosive Upgrade - Explosive Ammo Upgrade (Choppa Hunta! Will sometimes swap with the anti-tank launcher depending on who's irritating me)

I don't have the feintest interest in playing Recon or Assault, but I was thinking...

Wouldn't the Recon class be fun if you could launch those balls across the map rather than just tossing them? I'd play the crap out of that class. Imagine you're watching a firefight across the map and could just launch a recon ball into the fray to give your team the advantage. I guess you can just hit the select button and get more or less the same effect, but it seems less fun than just lighting up a whole building full of douchebags. It would also make the Recon class somewhat useful and not just a fucking nuisance to have on your team (looking at you Slider...and I'm guessing Nic).

The trick I've found with Rush is figuring out which MCOMs are easy to take and which ones are hard to take. If you're on offense, you take the hard one first because the other team will usually be split up between the two objectives trying to defend them both. If you're on defense, you always go defend the harder one...pretty much for the same reason.

Example of an undefendable MCOM: If an MCOM is in a destructible building, that building will come down at some point during the map. Don't even bother with it.

Example of an easily defendable MCOM: If an MCOM is surrounded by areas that are either elevated or have lots of cover, that shit is hard to take.

I actually don't play recon that much. I started playing assault, now I've been playing mostly engineer. I have leveled both of those classes up, so I have started to use medic a little, but I suck with that class.

Assault 50646 points, 452 kills, 682 deaths, 0.66 k/d
Engineer 44685 points, 446 kills, 545 deaths, 0.82 k/d
Medic 595 points, 9 kills, 28 deaths, 0.32 k/d
Recon 2548 points, 23 kills, 42 deaths, 0.55 k/d

If you could do this the Recon class would become really overpowered in the hands of a recon who can actually shoot
[SPOILER] It would also make the Recon class somewhat useful and not just a fucking nuisance to have on your team (looking at you Slider...and I'm guessing Nic).
That would be me, and I am far from the team nuisance (when I do play)

Recon is supposed to rack up the Spot assists using both select and the motion mines. They should also be getting rid of the other teams wookies. They are not supposed to sit in a dark corner and camp like most of the other wookievaginas do.

re: Battlefield Talk

Fun Squad DMs last night. Silly that we kept getting the Squad Pin but losing the game.

I'm getting more comfortable with the Recon. I can't score for shit with it though. Spotting just doesn't rack up the points like revivin' and tossing med packs into the fray.

re: Battlefield Talk

Forgot to add that last night I went to check my weapons and gadgets stats and after a long pause of updating my stats, I get there and I'm at ZERO EVERYTHING, from kills to weapons available; I'm even at Level 1. I freaked out but as soon as I entered a new game, all my weapons were available. I turn the game off, bring it back on, everything's fine. That's twice now I've been in a panic over my stats arbitrarily disappearing. Anybody else ever have this bug happen to them?

re: Battlefield Talk

Yea, that's happened to me a few times. It has always come back later though, so I don't worry about it anymore. I have recently been getting that "skill level dropped to 0" thing the last few times I have played. I know I'm not great at capturing flags or destroying MCOMs, but c'mon now, cappin' snitches should count for something.

Spoiler:
Sorry, the Boyz N The Hood HD review link was up there when I was typing.

Part of the fun in playing the recon class is just knowing that it's pissing Chess off.
