In honor of fro, I'd also like to point out our first official case of "that awesome trailer biting the game in the ass" in a review:

These are issues that should be blatantly apparent to any halfway decent tester, so I have to wonder if the game was rushed to shelves to take advantage of the heat generated by February's well-received teaser trailer.

Re: Dead Island

Well it looks like I'll wait-and-see if any price drops in the next days or week. Still no pre-order "bonus" worht doing. No-one is focing me to get it and with Gears3 just two weeks away I can wait and it DOES have a good pre-order bonus. Then Rage is two weeks after it and then both BF:3 and COD:MW3 are three and four weeks after Rage with Batman:AC in between. And any if not all of those five games will get a solid review period.

Re: Dead Island

7/10 from Destructoid. The reviewer calls it a mess, albeit a fun one. Similar to the Joystiq reviewer, his biggest gripe is that the game seems generally unfinished, mentioning that a day-one patch with 37 fixes is on the way. He also attempts to be original in calling it "Borderlands with zombies."

Re: Dead Island

I'm getting this at midnight, and I hate doing midnight releases. But I'm pumped for this game.

Re: Dead Island

That GT review video did nothing for me. I wonder if that's because of the game itself or my lack of gaming in general lately. It just looked monotonous.

Re: Dead Island

I do have a $20 Kmart coupon from Deus Ex, and they're doing another "buy the game, get a $20 gift card" deal for Dead Island, so I might pick this up after all.

That's even more dumb. It's like they couldn't help themselves to try and work it in somehow! Yes....in the modern world we live in where attention spans of interest are on a 12-24 hour cycle (at most) that precious 7 month release window was obviously a fast track to cash in on that trailer from February.

(Not to say that there aren't problems, and that it wasn't rushed, it certainly may have been. But to say it was to cash in on that "heat" is fucking hilarious. How about it was rushed to get it out before, I don't know, A TON OF HUGE FUCKING RELEASES start coming out over the next 3 months??)

On second thought, I have enough unfinished games right now. I'll probably pick this up early next year once I work through all of the fall releases.

amazon doesn't set those prices. it's a 3rd party company who pays you in amazon gift cards. not sure why that is so low. i did see that trade in values on deus ex wwere $20 for xbox360 but $31.75 for ps3. bizarre.

It's based on supply and demand. There's just about always more 360 versions sold of multiplatform games than PS3 versions. That inevitably makes the PS3 versions less available as used trade-ins and that tends to make them more valuable.

How the hell does the map system work? I select a sidequest, and it sometimes appears with dotted lines - most of the time leading back to the person I just spoke to!

Its better than I expected. Having to get up close and personal to kill zombies is pretty cool.

Re: Dead Island

I just read some of the reviews over at Amazon and it's almost split 50/50. About (12) give it 4&5 Stars while (7) give it 2&1 Stars. It's almost either a love & wow factor or either hate & sigh one. I may try and swing by GS and just see if they have it one of the screens playing. Like I said I know two friends getting it and the main reason was the co-op play.

then get it!!! That is reason enough for me to grab a game...hell even a bad game can be fun in coop, and this looks to be a great game with flaws...cooptimus says in their review that many of those flaws vanish with coop...and it sounds like many of problems with the game were patched...

if my stupid Kmart had this in stock I would already be playing it...

Re: Dead Island

The lack of split-screen co-op kills this for me until the inevitable price drop. Game designers seem to have forgotten that some of us do in fact interact with real life people when we play games.

yeah, my friends I grew up with who now live across the country are so fake at times...

actually it is shocking when a game with coop does not have local....(and the opposite as well...I'm looking at your Killzone 3)

Re: Dead Island

I like the fact that it feels real, not cheesy like Dead Rising. Don't get me wrong, I loved Dead Rising, but this just seems more like what someone would really be faced with if zombies attacked.

Yeah, first thing I'd do when waking up to a zombie attack while on vacation would be to rummage through everyones luggage that is in the halls for money. Then of course find one of those fancy workbenches that accept money in order to modify my weapons. Oh yeah, and of course I would keep revisiting all the same places because items are magically being restocked everywhere.

Don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast with this game, but I don't really think it's any more "realistic" than Dead Rising.
