The map is packed inside the case, and "Premium Physical Map Inside" is printed on the back cover, so I assume every copy gets one.
Strange of Amazon to list it as a "special bonus offer" when everyone gets it. Now I must resist playing it until I finish Uncharted 3....which I only just started, haha. EDIT: woah, the map is nice. printed on a thick parchment-like paper. |

Every time I see the thread title it looks like: Elder Scrolls Vs Skyrim.

I chose to do a side quest right off the bat and spent a couple of hours getting through a dungeon area which was great fun.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
Played for two hours. Really not digging the new map. I still prefer the oblivion map.
Game world is so beautiful. But graphics seem to be console level quality. I had everything on max and it still was underwhelming. Hopefully a mod releases improving the graphics. But still better looking than Oblivion. Still confused about the leveling. I used destruction magic and one handed weapons. If i keep using those skills to level up and ignore the other skills will i be okay? Or will it be harder to increase other skills later on? I'm a high elf if that helps. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
Picked it up today at Target (last copy). Have to say, compared to Oblivion so much has changed it's a bit jarring. The menus don't seem quite as intuitive and I don't like how they changed the way the magic system works where I can't keep a spell equipped while still keeping a shield equipped in one hand and a one handed weapon in the other.
Lastly, the favorite item system seems less intuitive than Publication's "wheel" system. Also, minor nitpick, I like how you could see the way your character looked in Oblivion vs the more Fallout style way you can do it in Skyrim. I'm a few hours in and at level 5 but those are just my first impressions. |

My complaint about the game is I want to be able to set up two loadouts of weapons and such and simply toggle between them with a button press. The favorite menu is helpful - but still not as easily usable as I would like. Also, the map system and quest markers needs work. It has been really challenging/impossible for me to get my Clairvoyance spell to lead me to the side quests I want. This especially sucks when the number of sidequests start stacking up. Did the perk thing confuse anyone else? I thought that the perk point gained each level was just going to increase a single category by one point... instead it takes you into a whole skill tree (cleverly based on the constellation for that skill) with a ton of options. It is fantastic and makes me want all the skills. |

I'm surprised you can't look at your character in the inventory menu (hell, other than 3rd person I can't see myself at all). Looking at what you look like wearing new gear was half the fun of finding loot (and how armor looked was almost as important as it's rating).
Maybe I'm missing something. |

I noticed that as well. I expected sharper textures but then again I'm comparing it too my Oblivion which has the hi-res texture mods and such. It runs good and there's no texture popping uglyness like retail-Oblivion so I'm happy.

Maybe I'm missing something. Anyway, I played for a good 20 minutes or so. I like it a lot more than Oblivion. One thing I thought was funny, and it made my wife laugh too, is I kept beating on the guy I was following with my sword. He screamed in pain, and quickly regained the hit points he lost. But the funny thing was it made my sword skill go up  |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
The golden claw sidequest is worth doing immediately because you get an item that is necessary for a later story quest.
I'm loving this so far. I especially like how everything is very Nordic, literally. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
How many levels are there? I've been leveling up fast because when I would find a person to train me, I'd do all 5 training levels right away. I just don't want to end up leveling up too fast and having enemies be harder than hell.
|
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
you can also see yourself like you could in Fallout 3/NV. Switch to 3rd person and hold down one of the trigger buttons (or both can't remember) and then rotate the right thumbstick.
Nowhere near as easy or cool as oblivion though. Call me crazy but it feels more like Morrowind (which I played briefly on the PC after having played through Oblivion) and that to me isn't a good thing. I liked Oblivion much more than Morrowind unlike some so maybe I'm in the minority. |

All skills level up as you use them. The lower level you are in a skill, the quicker it levels up (so it's easier to go from level 20 to 21 than it is to go from level 40 to 41). Level up five skill points (in any combination -- so five skills one point each, one skill five points, or anything in between) and you go up one character level, which gives you a 10 point increase to Mana, Health, or Stamina (you choose) and 1 perk point.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
I do know that the (3?) times I have done training (all 5 points at once), I have leveled up.

Played some more, not to say that I'm not enjoying it, but I think I like Oblivion more. Too many changes to the interface for my tastes. It plays too much like Fallout now.

http://kotaku.com/5858743/bethesda-w...-elder-scrolls Oh shit. I installed it and later deleted some saves. Am I fucked? |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
I installed it, then deleted the install after reading the Kotaku article. Graphics don't look any different to me.
