Spoiler:
Also, for anyone who hasn't gotten that far yet, I'd highly recommend doing the main storyline BEFORE resolving the civil war situation. If the civil war is resolved first, there's a whole section of the main storyline that gets skipped, and I thought it was one of the best parts of the game.

I have Illia following me, and I have loaded a save twice so far when she died.

Does it fix the end of the Thieves Guild questline so I can unlock my last achievement and trade the game in finally?

Plus you should take the DB quest at least to where you get Shadowmere.
That way you get the most badass Horse in the game, and you will also have a pretty good summon follower as well. Add to your private army. Now to go get Delphine and Esbern and stop the Main Quest and Destroy the world.

Spoiler:
I'm pretty sure 1.3 mostly just fixes the things that they broke with 1.2. Bethesda has stated that there won't be any quest fixes until at least January.

Ugh, Shadowmere died when I ran down a cliff while riding him/her. Also, realized the quest with the Elder Scroll also has a Daedric quest as an optional part of it that I didn't complete. The shortcuts don't seem to be working so I'm having to trudge all the way through that giant Dwarven Ruin all over again.

selling is a real pain in the ass in this game.
any vendors besides the potion store in whiterun that will buy potions?
also any suggestions on which skill tree to concentrate my perks on?

General goods stores buy pretty much everything. There's also a perk in speechcraft which makes all vendors buy all item types.

Shadowmere is a Boss, He has killed a Dragon and a Dragon priest.

So, again, Oblivion was a game I wasn't crazy about. Felt like a game world and too much looked the same, the side quests felt rather sporadic and not 'natural' in their approach, and the main quest was awful.
Skyrim impressed me from the get go but it had to do one thing in order to ensure me it was really a great game... stand the test of time. Now, I haven't been able to play as long as some other people but I have easily sunk all the time I had into it. I've built myself up as a nord (sword and board) to a level 26 with Elven crafted armor and an Elven war axe, and I've now JUST gone to see the greybeards so I don't get into the same predicament as some other people, missing some of the main quest storylines. I've barely scratched the surface of the game as I've really only concentrated on side quests, and I'm still just as intrigued in the prospect of pushing forward as I've been all along, if not moreso. The power I have is quite unreal compared to what the game used to be like... the fact I can take down a giant or a mammoth without TOO much difficulty is a real treat. I'm also enjoying the fact that I'm actually coming across more bears and wild cats and other various enemies instead of the usual wolves.
Yeah, this truly does deserve to be game of the year. I really, really can't wait to see what the DLC content will be eventually.

The owner of The Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun is a wood elf. I am one too and every time he sees me, he talks about how it warms his heart to see a kinsman.

I'm level 22, about 20 hours in.
I've been following this thread but not too closely, I haven't wanted to spoil things.
I did go to the Greybeards (I used to have a dog we called Greybeard, so that strikes me as humourous every time I go see them or hear about them) and start that quest, but I've just been doing random side quests and miscellaneous objectives and exploring the area.
Is that the best approach? Should I work on all the side stuff first? They haven't gotten boring yet, which was my issue with Oblivion. I wouldn't mind a little more direction on some of the misc. objectives (Bring X to Person Y - I forget where person Y is.) but so far I've just been going off on tangents.
Is it possible to do all the career questlines without blocking others off? ie, if I do Companion, that prevents me from doing Somethingelse, or are they all independent and don't affect each other?
I just started doing some smithing, but I haven't done a whole lot of enchanting or alchemy.
