Really? I heard the ending was crappy. I haven't played since it froze on me, but I kind of want to just get it out of the way.

Ending was alright, even appropriate, but I'm not sure I'd call it awesome. Definitely leaves you wanting more, but not in a good way.

Just finished the 360 version; what a great story, but what a criminally anemic game. If ever there were a case for a $40 price point for certain big games, this is one.

I hear there's gonna be some DLC that fleshes out the open world some more - not sure if it'll be free or not.

It's not, well at least not for 360 owners. The PS3 version gets two DLC packs, the exclusive DLC is free for people who bought the game new. If not, it will run $10 a piece.

In my review, I pointed out this fact as a reason I couldn't recommend a purchase of the game. Had they thrown a few free DLC packs in, it would have softened the blow of a 10-hour game that has really no replay value and no free roam.

I'm not talking about "Jimmy's Betrayal" which is an arcade-like game and is already out. No, I mean "Jimmy's Vendetta" which is going to be 30 all new missions coming out next week - and I guess it's gonna be $10. Ideally, they should've tacked those onto the main game.

Yeah, I was referring to both. Betrayal is PS3 exclusive, but at least they get something for free for buying. However, it does sound like Vendetta will be arcadey as well. They are pushing the idea of combos and leaderboards instead of narrative and lengthy missions.

Mafia 2 Tech Question

I have never bought a PC game for my pc. However, i recently bought Mafia 2. I uploaded the disc to my comp, but when I go to play it it's a bright purple, pink, orangish color, which makes it unplayable. I was told I need Nvidia GeForce, which my comp does NOT have in it. Is there a way to find this & download it for free? As I said, I'm new to pc games, so don't really know anything about them, but my laptop (emachines), comes with a video card in it that can not read & properly display the game. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You can't download it. You need a new videocard.

That's why I never gamed on PC.

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

so I finally picked this up for 19 bucks from hastings...a couple questions

What difficulty did you play it on? I want to just start on hard, but the checkpoint system has me a bit worried...which leads me to the second question...

how does the save system works?...I heard a lot of complaints, but from my understanding you have to finish a mission to save? So if I start a mission, I can not stop till I finish it? Is there no checkpoints or mid-mission saves at all?

thanks...

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

I think I finished it on normal. If I remember, yeah you're right. You have to finish a mission to save. I think there were certain checkpoints, but more often then not, you'd have to start over and sometimes even from the very beginning of the chapter. It really made me want to smash my controller.

I'm currently playing through on medium and there are some check points sprinkled throughout missions, but not many.

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

I am on chapter 9 now...I am really enjoying the game.....the story and acting are really bringing me in....

It does seem like a short game. I am over half way done, and I would guess that the later chapters are going to get longer, but if you take out the obvious padding on the game by making you drive from one end of the map to the other and back again and again, I probably have actually put in 2 hours of game...at this rate I will beat the game at 10 hours, with a solid 4 of that wasted on driving.... To make it even worst, they arrest you for speeding, and give the option of driving slow...which adds even more time to the game. I am glad I bought this used....10 hours for a sandbox type game is on the short side...

Hard has been easy...I hear chapter 14 is a bitch though so we shall see...

Like I said, great story and acting. Chapter 7 was a riot, and even though it has been done before in movies, I could not help but laugh and get involved in the situation....minor spoiler on chapter 7
Spoiler:
the singing in the car was great, and when your character starts to sing in Italian in perfect pitch....classic!

I am sorry, as I said from the demo the game looks like garbage to me. If they took all trees out of the game it would be a decent looking game...I sit close to my 60 inch tv, so I am sure it is making the blur and haze of everything past 30 feet worst, but it sort of gives me a headache...

The game is better than I thought it was going to be...

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

I am on chapter 15....chpt 14 was a bit of a pain at one point on hard...had to do that about 5 times....

The checkpoint system in this game has been just fine...I was worried for nothing...

Maybe they updated it, because I thought it sucked.

Has anybody played Joe's Adventure DLC yet? Thoughts? Is it the same random missions like the first DLC with little to no story involved?

the buzz on both seem low...I think I will skip them...

I finished the game...12 hours...

It really was a great game, with two great final missions. I can not say if they improved the checkpoint system or not, but for me, it was just about right. At no point did it seem like it made you go to long between checkpoints...(unlike GTA4)

I had about 5 freezes late in the game, and one ALMOST game ending glitch....or at least a mission ending (I escaped one part with two guys...instead of taking a vehicle, since all of them had flats...I ran thinking I would find a better one...well two enemy vehicles spawned on me with guns...and killed me on the spot...the game was thinking I would be in a car at this point...and the checkpoint was RIGHT before they spawn...so I would load up, and BOOM die in 1 second...Load up..boom..die in one second...25 deaths at that one point alone...before I was lucking enough to get behind a vehicle and kill them all)

of the 12 hours I would say 4 at least was needless filler....but I absolutely loved the voice work, and the characters...the story was predictable at points (oh no, a mob guys sister marries a guy who beats her so you have to beat him up which pisses her off...oh wow that is original) but I was really vested in the characters.

This game is amazing. Playing the PC version and just love the atmosphere. This has to be the best looking and most detailed open world yet.

Playing on the PC with the graphics maxed out this game is a stunner. One of the best looking Games I ever played.

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

Need some help. Ive been playing the game and loving it but it seems like I cant do what I want to do, namely steal cars and sell them to the scrap yard or the docks. Everytime I go, the guys tell me they got nothing for me, yet theres a trophy to steal at least cars for them... uhhh when? Do I wait for them to call me?

I had no idea about robbing stores until I read a post that all I had to do was actively rob it, I thought I had to 'learn it' cause I had no idea I could steal clothes and everything. Cool.

My HILARIOUS and cool moment: In chapter 7 when everyone is drunk and singing, I smashed into a parked car and that boss guy got out of the car and started stumbling around drunk! Just in an instant, I wasnt even stopped for long. I had to keep honking and he got back in on his own. I dont know what that was but it was so awesome

For the scrapyard, you have to drive the car into the crusher machine, then go up the stairs and hit the switch. You don't even need to talk to the guy.

For the docks, you have to wait until a point later in the game when it tells you this possibility has opened up, and it only works for cars valued over a certain dollar amount (i.e., the really expensive ones). You have to drive them onto the little lifting platform by the boat.

This is all from memory and it's been a few months since I played the game, but I believe that's how it works.

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

Yea man that worked out perfect. Im at Chapter 10 and havent been able to go to the Docks yet but robbing stores and the scrapyard are working good. Though I dont know what the hell Ill do with all the money. If I can just steal everyhting and get away easily, theres really nothing to buy.

I robbed a few peeps and executed alot of others. It was fun but I was doing this bad ass chase and died. How the FUCK can this game not have a manual save? It REALLY sucks ass.

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

I finally beat the game on hard. I found the following parts a pain in the behind though.

Spoiler:

Chapter 14 where you have to take out Derek. Getting to him in the warehouse was a real pain.
Chapter15 where you have to kill all of the guys on the way to where the telescope is. Once you get to the checkpoint it is easy but getting there was a real nightmare.

Now I get to start the precious journey of collecting those ridiculous Wanted posters.

Ugh...yeah, that's my last achievement in the game and I may just not ever bother.

I think I found 2 of them (2! out of 159!) during my 2 playthroughs of the game, and I'm usually pretty thorough when it comes to searching around.

It's absurd, and life's too short.

Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!

I havent even seen a wanted poster. I was looking for a FAQ and saw the locations of playboys but now the posters.

Another question, I have the GH DC version that just came out so it has all the dl content. Does it matter when I play it? Should I play it before a certain chapter?
