Re: Mafia 2 thread so slop does not get yelled at!
I finally got it in a Steam sale recently and have been playing it. It's not bad so far, and I don't think it's fair to even call it a "sandbox" game. It's more like a linear game with driving around a city.
How did they mess up the timing of the music though? Isn't it easy to look up when a song was released and know if it should be on the radio or not? I understand that it's not well-known that "That's Amore" wasn't releaseuntil 1953, but they have "Donna" by Richie Valens playing in 1951. It IS well-known that the plane crash was in 1959, and Valens was 17 at the time. So if you know the song, you know it's 7-8 years too early, even if you don't know the actual date of release. Then there's Chuck Berry's "No Particular Place to Go" from 1964, again playing in 1951, as well as other songs that don't fit.
I guess they just wanted a general feel for the era, but it seems sloppy.

Yea, but I love hearing all those songs. If they had to get anything right its the GOD FUCKING AWFUL Betrayal of Jimmy. Fuck I hate that shit, its annoying and boring and full of shit. All there are are fucking cops getting in the way EVERYWHERE fucking things up. I live near a police precinct and dont see that many cops

*resurrecting old thread*
Ha, after a long time...I finally picked up this game again for the DLC packs (I had bought them in a sale long time ago). Have played about 1/5 of both Jimmy's Vendetta and Joe's Adventures, going back and forth between the two. The last poster is absolutely right, I have little trouble with the actual enemies but all the trouble in the world with the cops.
But in the same breath, because of that I had a couple of funny moments.
Forget the name of the mission, but it is the one in Jimmy's Vendetta where you blow up a couple of gas stations. The cops were already there by the time I got over there because of the enemies opening fire, and they ended up blowing up both gas stations for me without me barely having to lift a finger. Great stuff.
Another after mission, and unfortunately I am still wanted. Well, I run for the nearest clothing store but the cops keep coming after me. So I nestle myself down behind the counter and just start blasting, knocking myself up to 4 stars. After I get down about 5-6 cops, the action stops momentarily. I get up, take the money from the cash register, grab a shirt (which removed the wanted) and calmly walk outside. I laughed for the next 5 minutes.

About 1/4 through each pack now. I really forgot the exhiliration of shooting a gas tank and knocking out 5 enemies at once. I can really tell the story picking up now and the action is increasing ten-fold. Showed my wife the clothing store trick and it was one of those WTF moments. As long as I keep progressing, I see no issue completing each of the packs. Achievements (outside of story related ones) might be a different matter though.

What is up with the drive 1000 miles achievement in the DLC? Utterly ridiculous if you ask me.

If you go on trueachievements.com and look up the million points achievement, there is a video that explains how to do it based on a glitch in the game. That glitch in addition to giving you a million points (if you are willing to leave on your xbox for 3-4 hours) will also net you about 130 miles driven. However, there is just one trick to getting the miles to save. The score will not save (but the achievement will pop which is all that counts), but the miles will if when you are done, you go into options and then trigger say the subtitles on and off.
I've done this for the million points and now I'm up to 200 miles total. I don't think I'll get close to the achievement (probably get to like 400 miles when I beat it). But if you are willing to put your xbox through some exhausation, it can be done.

Yea I did that ALOT with the pigs after me. I ran into a store and hid in the back blasting whoever showed up. After awhile I got new clothes and a pile of cop cars and dead people outside. Its funny, but after having to do it every time, it sucks. I still dig all the songs!
