Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Played a few of the tracks in RB3 but I gotta get ready for work soon. I'll try Blitz proper after work.

The best part was realizing that if they'd only release 99 Luftballons to go with Jessie's Girl and Sister Christian we could recreate My Awesome Mix Tape #6.

That's just for the game. You download the songs afterwards separately, and it's in the neighborhood of 750 megs.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Still trying to just play the damn game after playing one song in the demo this morning, hours ago.

1. Download the demo.
2. Discover DLC for 25 minutes (seriously).
3. Play one song, then purchased it.
4. Lets discover DLC AGAIN!
5. Okay, now you need to download the songs.
6. Alright, lets go... oh wait, lets hang at the loading screen instead.
7. Discover DLC AGAIN...
8. Haven't gotten here yet.

Ugh.
I wish I'd have known that before I wasted a few hours online, before I went to try the new songs. Dagnabbit!

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Woot, finally was able to play the full game. Pretty fun so far. Facebook stuff is annoying. Especially since you can't view the goals in the game, yet it will tell you if you got progress towards one (yet no indication of how much progress or if it was completed). The Facebook implementation seems very half-assed.

Okay...so i see you folks are having some trouble with this and I do plan to spend tonight with it.

If I'm one of those people who just wants the songs in RB3 and I could care less about Blitz...is there a simple path to take or am I doomed to do these 8-9 steps for the darn songs ?

I don't get the problem.

Step 1: Download and launch Blitz.

Step 2: Download DLC per the prompt in Blitz

Step 3: Play DLC in RB3

I did it this morning at like 4am in a half-asleep state.

You'll be fine if you just skip the trial and buy the full thing first off. You'll have to sit through Discovering DLC once though.

What are the two RB DLC songs for that Parenthetically Speaking challenge? I don't think I own them.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Well, I just got to give it the briefest of a try this morning before work. It seemed pretty cool, but I want to see where the Power Ups figure in. I guess you have to play a while before you get them, right?

Just curious : Do you folks think it's easier to play using the sticks or the D-pad/A Button to "catch" the notes? I tired it both ways and I'm not sure yet.

Looks like it's finally time I imported my Lego RB and RB2 music. I always figured I didn't need them since I'd palyed at tleast the RB2 songs to death a few years back and I always had plenty of other songs to play (plus I always felt it a little unfair to pay to play songs I already bought at full price), but with this new format, I think it's time. Bought some cheap points at www.crazygametime.com -- not sure they're 100% on the level, but they deliver almost instantly with cheap points either way, and now I'm ready to finally do the export.

D-pad/A-button for sure. Takes less movement.

Cliffs on this website? I can't find much evidence on the web of them being legit or not.

I can't do it without triggers!

Although I heard using a fight stick is awesome for this game, which I'd love to try if those things weren't like $100!

Couldn't vouch that the point codes didn't "fall of the back of a virtual truck", but they deliver every time, right away. I've used them three times this month.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

If you could use the fight stick knob to change lanes and the buttons to capture notes, that would be awesome. I'll have to dust off my SF IV Tournament Fight Stick and see how it plays...

Okie dokie, got it. I'm willing to sit, but I was just hoping it wouldn't be a huge pain in the ass

I use "Freakish", so the bumpers/triggers are my LR, and I use the d-pad to switch tracks. I can hit things faster with my index fingers than my thumbs.

I see. I didn't even check for different button configurations. I might have to try that, I like the idea of using the bumpers instead of d-pad/a.

That is my preferred control setup as well.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I was curious about how missing tracks are handled so I played Green Day's vocal-only "Song of the Century". Clearly I was way behind the learning curve of that.

I played it without powerups, got 100%, 7,000 points, and 4 stars to Shag's ~700k. Not having all the powerups, particularly the assumed double-vocal-points one, I'm not sure what the trick is to high scores yet. So I played again picking 2x OD and fire notes, got 99% because I fucked up early, 30k points, and gold stars.

This game is wicked variable.

Leaderboards seem completely pointless in RBB, it's too powerup based.

You're just mad I'm beating all your scores!

It really would be nice if they told you what powerups someone used to get a score, but they want you to experiment with that stuff.
