How so? 25 is less than 1/3 of a retail RB release and those are $60. I'd be shocked if this came out at more than 1600 points ($20) which is far from unprecedented.

No matter what, 25 songs is 25 songs and it has to be priced accordingly. It won't matter if you have half of them because there will be people that have none.

I'm disappointed that this isn't going to be a Rock Band shell... but I'll still buy it anyway.

I was just thinking that the price would be around $1-$1.5 per song. I guess it wouldn't be crazy for it to be priced $20 w/ 25 new songs. I would buy it in a heartbeat @ $20.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

So, this will have to be two separate downloads, right? You'll have the game that's called "Rock Band Blitz" and you'll have the 25-song pack that's technically "Rock Band" DLC. Otherwise they'll need to patch RB3 to look at the RBB content which seems counter-productive for the infrastructure they already have in place.

Do you think they'll break it up somehow that you can get one but not the other? Maybe $5 for the Blitz game with your existing DLC and $15 for the song pack if you just want it in RB3?

Honestly, no. If they offer a pack only, I much rather have that than some Blitz game. So, I'm almost positive that they will bundle it together and keep it that way until 6 months from now when they make all of the songs separate releases in RB3 ;)

What if the Blitz game is "free" but requires the RB DLC pack?

I'm just throwing ideas out there based on the structure we know and the facts we have. There has to be scenarios that fit in with that, right?

Confirms that all songs are playable in RB3 - no export fee.

Official site is up:

http://www.rockband.com/games/rockbandblitz

Rock Band Blitz comes with over 20 songs new to the Rock Band franchise, from some of music's biggest artists!
Sounds like all (or maybe just the vast majority?) of the songs in Blitz will be brand new to RB.

I have no idea what this means. Can anyone elaborate? What exactly is this game?

I was watching this just now and came here to put this quote:

We're not ready to discuss the specific price, but I think I can say it's going to be comparable to other arcade titles and for people who purchase Rock Band DLC, it's going to be a great deal.
I'm calling it: $15. $20 tops and that's pushing it.

I'll put my bet on $20, but I agree that it should be $15. I could see them going for $15 just to try and reach a bigger audience.

That would interesting, similar to the way Pinball FX does things. I would be all for that.

I'm also glad that there will be no Export fee for the songs, that was one of my big worries that they would want even $5 for the export after you already buy the pack. Looks like they are doing this sucker right. $15 sounds right (day 1 purchase), $20 I might hold off for a few weeks.

Sounds like RB3 on-disc tracks can't be exported for use in Blitz. Also, the game will be playable at PAX East. I'll be attending, so I'll check it out and post some impressions.

Not yet. But that's no big loss. I can't wait for the day I can export my Beatles tracks into games like this.

That is correct. You literally cannot wait for that day, because that day will never come (although I wish for the same thing).

Makes perfect sense. It would have to exported to a file and then shared with Blitz. Furthermore, then there are rights to consider and I am relatively sure an export fee for that would exist.

No loss honestly, if I want to play Rock Band 3 songs, I insert my RB3 disc at least until RB4 comes along (if it comes).

LIVESTREAM SHOW TODAY! In depth with Rock Band Blitz!!!
Rolling along with the excitement of our Rock Band Blitz announcement, today we will be running a TWO HOUR livestream show focused exclusively on Rock Band Blitz!

Project Director Matthew Nordhaus (HMXMister_Game) and Lead Designer Brian Chan will be giving a full demo of Rock Band Blitz, followed by a rip-roaring tournament for an actual, physical championship belt. Contending for the prize will be HMXHenry, John Drake, Nick Chester, and Eric Pope (me!). There will be oodles of crap talk, I promise it. Amongst that jibberjabber, we will also be announcing next week's DLC!

We'll also be giving you all a sneak peek at what we've got in store for those of you who will be making the trek to our booth on the PAX East show floor.

Perhaps most exciting of all, our old friend HMXSean will be hosting the entire thing!

The show will happen here: http://www.twitch.tv/harmonixmusic
Showtime: 6PM EST - 8PM EST

I believe G4 quoted 25 songs and the official press release mentions something like "over 20 songs new to Rock Band". This is 100% speculation/wishful thinking but this could mean there are up to 4 old songs in the game which could be their way of bringing back stuff like "Give It Away" and "Spoonman" that didn't export from past titles.

Black Hole Sun was re-added late last year with Dani California. Give it Away is still AWOL, though.

I think you are right. Unless 90% of the songs blow, I will buy day one at either price point (possibly for both systems).

Here's a full-song playthrough of Bang Camaro's "Bang Camaro". Having never played Amplitude or Frequency or RB:U, I have almost no idea what's going on here. Can anyone shed light on how this might control, how the multipliers are earned across instruments, and what the hell they're throwing ahead on the lanes?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I can't tell exactly what keys are used but it's basically this.

Use the D-Pad (Left/Right) to select your "Track" (instrument), lets say L1 hits the Left Note and R1 hits the Right Note. Once you select a "Track" you hit R1/L1 corresponding to the markers -- Just like strumming the guitar or hitting the drum in Rock Band, but you know, on a game controller. Once you finish a segment on 1 instrument, it "activates" (plays on its own) so you can move on to another track and "activate" it as well... at least it did, looks like they may have taken out the "activation" aspect.

There's more to it than that but that's the jist. Frequency, Amplitude and Rock Band PSP were a blast. Looking forward to this.

Lame if they keep it at only 2 buttons though, Amplitude and Fequency had 3.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

That's basically what I figured it was doing. As if my poor triggers weren't punished enough with Pinball, this looks to kill them.

The interviews they've given talk about why they changed from 3 to 2 buttons, as a way to better plan for what's coming. Or to make it easier. Or to simplify the "blitzification" algorithm. Or some combination of those.
