Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-1...downloads.html
Most Profitable Year Fast-forward a year, and Dance Central has sold more than 2.5 million copies at $60 each, making it the No. 2 bestselling game for the Kinect (the top game is Kinect Sports, which often comes bundled with the console). Thanks to Dance Central, 2011 will be the most profitable year Harmonix has ever recorded, says Hunziker, and he expects over $100 million net profit for the 200-employee company. Downloads are part of the turnaround story. Harmonix built a music downloading service into its games when they launched, so that players could buy new songs. While hardware sales remain the bulk of the company’s business, Hunziker says Dance Central has spurred downloads of a wider variety of music than Rock Band and Guitar Hero, including dance and techno titles. Since 2006, Harmonix has sold more than 100 million music downloads, he says. “We’re going to continue to invest in the [downloadable content] business.” |

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
That's great news for them. I'm curious how much people are downloading in Rock Band 3 still. I just spent my whole 4000 point card on music.

Good for them. But regarding this :
Dance Central has sold more than 2.5 million copies at $60 each, making it the No. 2 bestselling game for the Kinect (the top game is Kinect Sports, which often comes bundled with the console). |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
The article has changed the word "profit" to "revenue" now. I still hope they turned a big profit, though.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I just picked up a Roland KD-85 Mesh Kick Trigger. Can anyone recommend a good (but not obscenely expensive... maybe $150-$200?) double bass pedal that would work well with that? Also, what beater would work best with the KD-85? It comes with a big rubber sledgehammer-looking beater, but I've seen a lot of videos of people using felt head beaters.

In the world of stupid Rock Band removal of bad words the Papa Roach song, Forever blanks out...wait for it, waaaaait for it:
Heroin. Oh nooooooooooos, they said a bad word. Now I have to go get addicted. Geezus. It doesn't ruin the song I suppose, but it is a WTF moment. BTW, downloaded also the Darkness song last night. Falsetto FTW. I thought I would totally blow it. 100% on medium first time out. Perhaps I'll go for hard soon. |

I go in spurts. I watch the weekly release schedule but usually only buy songs about once a month. Then I might buy about 3-5 songs. I'm still waiting for some packs to go on sale like the Billy Joel one but I might just crater along the way :).
