Yeah, it is a bit of a chore. I was stuck on a fairly early section for weeks and was seriously about to trade DA. I got past it just yesterday, but I almost fell asleep while playing.

It certainly didn't hook me in immediately like Mass Effect but after a while I really got into it and dig the characters. But it is quite a chore at first and I feel they overdid it with the difficulty. I'm playing on normal and was irked by how many enemies they would throw at me early on and how tough each one was.

I'm now on level 12 and things are still challenging but no longer frustratingly difficult.

It's funny that after using this mod (and a few others) the graphics in Dragon Age 2 don't seem as big leap from the graphics in Dragon Age: Origins.

Still, really looking forward to this and glad I pre-ordered from here.

No, it was the city being attacked by Dead Soldiers who's name I can't remember right now. I finally held out long enough for the game to let me pass it. I kept losing my characters.

I'm sure I'll have my ass handed to me many more times in this game.

Oh, Redcliffe. I found that relatively easy. My only casualty was
Spoiler:
the mayor.
Shame as he was the only citizen I really wanted to see survive.

Now the castle in Redcliffe was a pain in the ass. And that's what led me to the Wizard's Circle which, in turn, led me to the horrid Fade. It took me a few days to get through because it was so dreadfully tedious. It's essentially a neverending fetch quest.

I liked the original, not as much as other Bioware games but I enjoyed it.

The ending sort of bummed me out though. Not because of the crazy epic nature of it, but because I ended up beating the final boss on some random glitch/programming error.

Today's the last day to preorder to get the free upgrade, so I relented and put in an order to amazon... now to figure out whether to keep it, considering I'm only partway through the first one...

I'm currently in Orzammar (and have only acquired the allegiances of the Mages and the Elves thus far) so I'm still deep in the first game. But that's fine 'cause (much like how I did with Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2) I'll dive right into Dragon Age 2 the moment I finish Dragon Age.

I just hope in Dragon Age 3 we'll get to play as the Warden again so I can see the old cast of characters anew.

I wonder if they'll do something similar for the sequel:

Better include some images just in case!!

I ask because clearly this will sell a few more copies and if its in London again let me know and I may pop down

See look how much fun this Dragon Age player is having!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

While I was researching this further. Can you call it research? *ahem*

It turns out this was part of a legitimate marketing strategy. It turns out Leliana and Morrigan were designed based on two models and an exclusive was given to Maxim a mens magazine

Exclusive: The Girls of 'Dragon Age: Origins' - Maxim.com

So next question is any of the new DA2 charecters based on any real life models???

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

Do you guys use Auto Level or do you do it yourself? And if you do it yourself, do you follow the recommended leveling pattens for specific classes? I think part of my problem with RPGs is I'm not doing this right. This is why my characters get their asses handed to them early on causing me much frustration.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

I do it myself. Unlike the first Mass Effect where I auto-leveled up my crew (but not Shepard) as I felt initially overwhelmed. I bet following a specific pattern woould make it easier on me but I've been simply picking what seems most useful based on its description.

That said, I feel the problem also lies in that Bioware went overboard with the amount of enemies that attack your paltry party of four. Worse still is when they have several tough enemies gang up on you and a horde of annoying grunts at the same time.

The ability to lose a party member at any moment really kept me on my toes and help immerse me in the characters. I like the new rivalry sytem but party members abandoning you should not have been ditched.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

I'm most-likely going to pick it up. I still need to play through the original though, so I hope to do that before the sequel is released.

It'd be tough to review the sequel for my blog without having played the first for comparison purposes.

OK the girls are nice, but.... no hot redheads? Seriously?
I loved Leliana and her accent... Wow! I could not resist.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

If you want a hot Dragon Age related redhead, just check out Alexandra "AlleyKatze" Stein. She was the basis for Leliana in the Sacred Ashes trailer. And the basis for in-game Morrigan is Victoria Johnson (though I found that the Dragon Age Redesigned mod does a better job at recreating what she looks like).

In other news, I finally beat Flemeth and the damn game glitched on me after I gave Morrigan the real Grimoire. Now I have to fight Flemeth again. I am so pissed!

In the demo, players will venture through the game’s prologue, choosing from three different character classes. They’ll also learn more about Hawke and hone their skills and abilities that will make them the ultimate hero. After finishing the prologue, players will enter a key new location in the world of Dragon Age, Kirkwall, befriending Isabela, a romantic interest in the game who is also a deadly smuggler. Upon completion of the demo, players will unlock a special weapon, Hayder’s Razor, an ancient dwarven blade which increases health, mana, and combat abilities, in the full release of Dragon Age II.

For more demo information please check out the DEMO PAGE.

Edit: Adding some answers to frequently asked questions

1 - Can we import from Origins into this demo?
  • The demo does not have a character or save game import feature.
2 - Is there a character creator with the demo or do we play default Hawke?
  • No. While you can modify your character in the main game, this is disabled in the demo
3 - Does the demo allow you to just start the full version of DA2 from where the demo leaves off?
  • No. The demo begins with the beginning of Dragon Age II and then shows you a glimpse of a mission that occurs later on in the game.
4 - Will it show off DX11 effects on the PC?
  • DX11 features will only be available on the PC purchase copy of Dragon Age 2.
5 - Can we play Male and Female Hawke?
  • Yes you can choose male or female Hawke.
6 - How do I get the demo for my Xbox 360 or my PS3?
  • The xbox 360 demo will be available through Live. The PS3 demo will be available through Playstation Home.

So it's like the Mass Effect 2 demo but without the ability to continue where you left off once you get the full game and without the character editor.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

I finally started Dragon Age: Origins yesterday. I've put about 7.5 hours into it as a human noble warrior, and I'm really liking it thus far.

I'm hoping to finish it before the sequel is released, but that's probably a pipedream.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

The first was a great game, but did not live up to my HIGH expectations. I think the Baldur's Gate games...especially the second one...are some of if not the best games ever..... But Dragon is a still a great game (just not epic) so I will get this, but I missed out on the early pre-order, and in a weird way it is demotivating me to buy it new. I am not sure if that was the effect they were looking for, but I think I might grab this when it is 39.99 new or less, or get it used.

Yeah, it's a solid game but rather rough in spots. It didn't suck me in immediately the way Mass Effect did. I actually had to warm up to Dragon Age: Origins. But I'm glad I've stuck it through since the good tends to outweigh the bad.

I agree. DA:O was a good game but it did not live up to the hype of being "the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate" at all.

Can't wait to buy the Ultimate edition of this in about a year! Learned my lesson with the first game and its quadrillion expansions.

There was only one expansion (Awakening). The rest was DLC (none of which was critical to complete the game. Not what I'd call a quadrillion.

Regardless of what you want to call it (DLC=expansions in my book, and I'm not sure why the question of "critical" or not would even come into it), there was a great deal of additional content released for the game, all of which was then included with the Ultimate Edition a year later for less than the price I paid for the original game on release day. That was my point, and the reason why I'll be waiting on buying this title. Fool me once, etc.

I getcha. I just found the quadrilion comment to be a bit extreme. But I do get your ire.

My first experience was with the Ultimate Edition so that undoubtedly colours my view of things. But of the additional content, a good deal of it was in the Collector's Edition and some items are still exclusive to the Collector's Edition. So those of us that got the UE still don't get the full package.
