Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011
Just finally played the demo (hope I qualify for the free items!). Love the updated graphics, the clean streamlined interface.
Not... totally sure how I feel about the combat. I'll see how it plays out, but having to continually hit the attack button made it so I wasn't able to concentrate on the rest of my team. Maybe that only means I'll finally have to use the tactics menu this go round.

The April OXM was in the mail today and they gave it a 9.0
Their only criticisms were the side quests get repetitive (They compared them to the mako missions in the first Mass Effect) and the world isn't as large and open as the it was in Origins.
They mentioned you can only change the armor for your main character, you can only add runes tp the armor of your companions.

Well, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but I just saw on Amazon that RitzCamera has 8 copies of the PS3 Signature Edition up for sale for only $63 and change. Who knows if it's really the signature edition or not, but I assume you can easily return if not.
edit: deal is dead now.

I'll probably enter my codes from the SE and whatnot but I don't feel like registering for any emails. Oh and I think you get some from playing DA Legends on Facebook, too.

If all that stuff is as useful as the the armor and weapons that you could redeem codes for in Mass Effect 2 you'll have better stuff an hour into the game.

Game Informer gives the console version an 8.25.
Game Informer gives the PC version a 7.75
The one complaint in all the reviews seems to be the how small the world is compared to Origins.

Wasn't Mass Effect 2 smaller than Mass Effect? EA didn't buy Bioware til Mass Effect 2, but EA owned Bioware for both DA's IIRC. I am hearing alot of people are complaining that EA half-assed it.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to playing.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011
Maybe this decision was made to retain a shred of the tactical combat that distinguished Origins, but if that’s the case, the attempt is meager and insufficient. You have no zoomed out isometric view, and the waves and waves of filler enemies that pad out encounters make strategy futile. Yes, you can pause and issue commands, but this maneuvering is pointless when you never know how many more bad guys will jump from the rooftops, rise from the ground, or simply materialize out of nowhere. Even with more foes, the fights are considerably easier (unless you really crank up the difficulty), so planning is a waste of time. You can win most fights without worrying about strategy, so why invest unnecessary time and effort in the tactical approach? This conundrum creates a combat system that does not convey the thrill of controlling an unstoppable hero, but also doesn’t accommodate the strategy that is supposed to serve as an alternative.

In other news, my SE just arrived via FedEx. Now I have a couple of complaints. For one, the SE isn't a steelbook like the first game. I would have paid extra for that.
Secondly, my case arrived in worse shape than Homer Simpson after a doughnut convention. The bottom is cracked and missing pieces. Thankfully the disc seems to be okay.
You can bet Amazon is going to do something about this.

Heck, even the PC version's normal mode requires some tactics because it is more challenging than the console version. The console version has no friendly fire even on normal, but the PC does. The PC also throws more enemies at you than the console does.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011
I know that there is the "day 1" dlc included with the game, but I thought I read somewhere that people who play on the first day will have something special unlocked. Anyone remember something like that?

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011
What's the day one DLC? If you mean the Princes Exile, I think that's paid DLC.
I have to say I am not liking the game so far. I am just past the first area, and the button mashing to attack really pisses me off. That, and I am playing on normal (as a Rogue) and I died in the second area, and had to start all over. No auto save I guess. Total BS.
Besides looking better, I think the first game has this one beat so far. I hope it gets better. Otherwise I am getting rid of it quick.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011
Played it for a few hours tonight.
It's definitely a game that you will be completely lost in, as far as the story goes, if you didn't play Origins. They throw out a lot of terms and places that they expect you to know.
The combat is a lot smoother and better I thought. Leveling up is pretty much the same, just with shinier menus.
The story hasn't really done much yet, but it's still early.

It was on the back of the insert in the case. There were 2 codes you have to enter in the marketplace, one on each side. One's for the Black Emporium, the other for the Prince quest.
