but they still drop the ball with the presentation.

Re: NCAA Football 11 (360, PS3) July 13, 2010

Just started my offline dynasty as Wash St. Yes they are one of the worse teams in college football but I'm a Cougar forever and I always liked the challenge of taking of the lower tier programs (2 Stars as of now) and trying to turn it around. So I know that it's supposed to make this a little more realistic but it get's pretty frustrating when the computer decides that it wants to win or that you playing as a lower tier program shouldn't be doing as well as you are and starts throwing in the phantom holding calls and penalties. My QB will over throw wide open receivers and when not they will usually will just drop it anyway. Last game I played had my impact player at RB drop a pass on a screen route that would have been taken to the house or at least picked up 40+ yds.

I am digging this game a lot though despite the frustration and random glitches. (play action I'm looking at you and I noticed those grammar errors in recruiting as well) I think once I start up my online dynasty with by buddies think I'll pick a little bit of a stronger program.

although, if there are major changes closer to the start of the season.. I may have to blow that away and start over with the 'real' finalized roster

I had compared with the ones gator was working on at utopia ncaa strategies.. poor gator seemed to get in over his head.. he ended up having to do everything on his own and it didnt look like he was keeping up.. the 360 roster at OS was complete with names last thursday, and they have been making constant updates using all the posts in their corrections threads.. and those people posting corrections are insane with the in depth updates they provide... seems to be a handful of people at OS passing around a master file and taking turns updating..

IMHO this one is vastly superior to all previous ncaa releases..
of course, I actually hadnt noticed the missing halftime, since i always skip past all that kindof stuff.. and hadnt paid much attention to the commentary.. so i guess that part doesnt bother me.

it definitly seems like with this years version, a nice pump fake is much more useful in getting receivers open, over the previous seasons..

a nice crossing route with a pump fake, and you can eat them up..

i also like that its not so easy to just outrun the defense to the corners and take off down the field.. pursuit seems to be much more effective

This is strange I got 2 emails from EA at the same time today, the first said we noticed you havent activated your ncaa online pass, and the second congratulated me for activating the online pass. The thing is I don't have NCAA.

i thought i read something about it, but then forgot

I have put 17 years into EA football, I am pretty sure there are few who have given it more than I have. It is a mediocre game at best with way too many broken gameplay, presentation, and longevity elements.

I'm not saying you have to like it, or that you're wrong for not, but the game has received positive reviews, and I think it's possible that your expectations are a little too high.

Anyhow...I'm having a lot of fun playing the online dynasty with work buddies. We're still in the cupcake games right now, but it'll be interesting to see how some of the real games go, when everything matters.

No question. I have fond memories of the intermissions in Blades of Steel, a game that I loved as a kid. It came out all the way back in 1987, and yet here we are with half-time "festivities" that include looking at a menu that we can view at any time.

just curious, how much time and effort should be put into a halftime show that at least 99.9% of users are going to skip right past each time? (well, unless they include the erin andrews peep video)

Not everyone mashes the A button to skip past anything that isn't gameplay. There's a reason people always mention NFL2K5 and presentation in the same sentence. Even if people skipped past the cutscenes, pre-game, halftime and post-game shows, they were still appreciated. I'd rather have them with the option of skipping them than to not have them at all.

I'm the guy who loved the radio shows in the earlier Madden games, and last year's NFL Network-esque highlight shows. Madden made an effort last year, and while I don't ALWAYS watch them, I like having the choice.

If I am in game that is part of my Dynasty and the halftime has highlights of other ongoing games that may effect my standings I will watch. Plus it would feed into your ego if one of the highlights is from your game. Instead of the boring screens at the end of a season - they should at least animate the award show and at least show a fictional clip of the Hesman nominees and winner with the trophy. And in a rivalry game show more emotion at the end of the game - media streaming onto the feild and in a big upset some of the fans storming the field. Bowl games could show a trophy presentation. I could go on and on with little touches to improve it.

I absolutely agree here. I can't remember which version(s) of EA's NHL (around the mid 90s), but at the end of the season they had the award gala, with the three top nominees shown, and the winner would be announced. And they had the Stanley Cup on the ice!

Now I sound like an old man, so I'll be quiet.

Re: NCAA Football 11 (360, PS3) July 13, 2010

As has been the norm recently for this series, this year's version starts out great and I think "they finally got it right for this generation of consoles". And then I play for another week and the luster slowly fades away and I'm left thinking "how can they screw this game up again?!". I've given up hope that they can ever make this game go back to feeling like college football and not 'generic football with college teams associated with it', but as far as actual gameplay: there's absolutely no reason that a current version of NCAA should play worse than last year's version of Madden, or for players you assume are wearing cleats to have worse player movement than those on ice in NHL10.

So I'm left to wonder, are they being limited by the size of the game due to it being on DVD for the 360? Because each year it seems like they've removed just about as much as they've added.

I still don't know why the smaller schools that were in the last gen versions still haven't appeared in this gen's games.
